Desert Rose

by Alatar Arcane

Age Group: Adult

Caught in between the sand and rocks
holding out for the rain
wishing there was more to life
that someone could see your pain

The dry sun is beating down
upon your withered leaves
no clouds are in the sky
you're left with only grief's

You struggle harder against all odds
to keep yourself alive
but the undertow of the heat and cold
has bruised your heart and drive

You feel it all start to slip away
as the sun continues to bake
You don't know why you've come so far
to end with only mistakes

Regrets of times you blossomed out
and found you were all alone
Trying to reach out to others like you
but ended with only stones

Why cant there be someone for me
You cry out to the sky
I don't want it to end like this
to be alone when I die

No faster than you spoke it
a shadow appeared above
two gentle hands came down
and eyes that beamed with love

These hands gently start digging
You felt the dirt loosen around
Then you can feel the air below you
as you are swept off of the ground

You don't know where you're going
but you know where you have been
in the desert, alone, not growing
So many questions are found within

These hands that hold you preciously
have moved you to a new place
somewhere now unfamiliar
as you see his smiling face

He has placed you in an oasis
in the shading of the trees
you feel your lifeblood flowing
through your roots, your stem, and leaves

You feel so filled with happiness
that you begin to bloom
that man who saved your heart
will soon become your groom

Love is found where it should be
no further than the heart
Sometime even in the desert
you can find this caring art

You never know its location
sometimes its right beneath your nose
If you're not watching you might miss it
that one beautiful desert rose
