Run the Race!
by Radko Vacek
Age Group: Adult
Live life until you drop. No, do not fear
The footrace, not when old nor in the cold,
But as from Atalanta fled the deer
Wildly sacred to nobly die, be bold!
Do not wait for fallen apples of gold
To run the race, but swiftly death do face,
As did the women young and free of old!
Do give your whole heart to the heat of race,
And this ecstatic way you do embrace
Your precious life this day! Your heart may burst
Swiftly as swift legs, no shame, no disgrace!
What a shame to go slowly! No, not worst
It is, to go in pursuit as heroes,
Not like hares fleeing into their burrows.
