A Universal Prayer
by Radko Vacek
Age Group: Adult
Ideal is a character not subdued
By hardship, of which it is rightly said,
Like an oak it is, of a fortitude
So noble as to regard as sacred.
Such is pure love, as felt when tears get shed
For those bearing hardship as one has borne.
Of such grit, love with forgiveness is wed,
Giving just the rose, for time gives the thorn.
Even as it storms, yet lives the acorn.
Purpose, enduring a holocaust, lasts
To germinate as a new hope, reborn!
With such love, one may sanctify what's past.
If I survive, may I live on purpose,
Never as the thorn, always as the rose!
