My Holy Feast Days

by Odin Owlfather
 Age Group: Adult

Now spindle star and distaff spear and cauldron deep tis ancient wisdom this knowledge ye must keep
the holy hosts are gathered around the cauldron bright with precious herbs and holy mead upon this sacred night
for when the wheel first turns at yule we light the logs the horned one rules
then speak our oaths upon the hearth yet keep the ash to bless the garth
tis friggs day of blessing a renewal of vow and ring the einherjar are feasting and the valkryie maidens sing
for as the wheel begins to turn so the sun shall brighter burn
and as it turns to candlemas through birch white snows show leeks and grass
fire the forge and charm the plow bless the hammer tis thors day now
Now as it turns to springtide and night equals day tis time for osatra and the blessing of frey
the furrow is ploughed and the planting is done for winter is over and new life has begun
then as it turns to roodmas now bless the sheep then milk the cow
dance with the elves and true love show tis freyas day and her flowers do grow
and so it turns to Whitsuntide tis sunnas day and her chariot ride
frey the sun has reached his height the oak in the forest towers with might
balder the good shines bright from the east a blessing of marriage and midsummer feast
and so it turns to manis day gather the fruits and gather the hay
gather the grapes from of the vine mix ye the mead and make ye the wine
bring out the loaf at lammas night for power is brought to the magical right
then as it turns to harvestide the lord of the grain doth stand at thy side
sharpen the sickle gather the sheaves tie up the bundles and spill out the seeds
for when it is time and the equinox falls tis tyrs day of justice and fairness to all
when the wheel turns to hallowmas ghosts and goblins and fairy hosts pass
gather the herds and lock up the grain finish the spinning and call out the name
ask for a blessing from the hunter of souls his power protects against demons and trolls
close up the barns and seal all the wells light all the candles and finish the spells
tis wodens day and the wild hunt rides over the shining streams and secret tides
In fiery flame and starlight pale the shadowy host rides over the gale
through forests wild and woods enchanted past fern brakes and places fairy haunted
past dolmens and stones barrows and mounds the horn is calling the baying of hounds
as black tree branches shake and sigh by joy an terror ye know him nigh!
