Death and Rebirth

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

The Death card of the Tarot Interesting as can be Some think it is unpleasant, But that's not how I see
We all know Death means change, The last of something old, The birth of something new As all events unfold
So here's a little story: Mr. Death gave me his cloak And handed me his scythe (so I bought him a Coke)
He told me to get rid Of aspects that I had That trapped me in the past And things that made me mad
So I put on his cloak And scythed away my fear I stood back for a moment But just to scratch my ear
I scythed off false beliefs Along the long blade's curve But kept the ones I needed, The ones that could still serve
I scythed away the fungus That my lovely garden growed Before I even knew it The whole backyard was mowed
I scythed away bad thoughts About which I have thunk I never knew how awful Those bad thoughts really stunk
I scythed away bad people Who tried to tear me down I even roped the worst one And twirled him all around
It's easy to go forward When nothing makes you halt Looking back (the wrong direction) Will turn you into salt
I offered Death a "thank you" Returned his scythe and cloak He smiled and then vanished In one big puff of smoke
I'm glad of all that happened For now my mind was clear Reborn, I can start over -- My path begins right here.
