August Songs (5)

by Stewart Bitkoff
 Age Group: Adult

Meadow Flowers
See the blossoming flowers; See how each proclaims Their hour in the meadow. See their colors bright and beautiful. Inhale their fragrance sweet and soothing. Daily, many come to share A joyful dance on the breeze.
Dear traveler, remember, Like these flowers Our hour in the sun is fleeting; One day, we too Shall return to our home And begin anew; With a different song to sing.
For now, let us enjoy Our bouquet of flowers; Drinking deep The many colors of their experience. . * *
Prayer to the Morn
As the sun ascends the mountains And slowly caresses the new day, Listen to the young birds serenade the morn. Expectantly they call out for nourishment And celebrate their opportunity for life.
O spiritual traveler, How do you greet the new day? Are you joyous for another opportunity To create your own life? Is your heart’s song: Like the young bird’s full of joy; Another prayer to grace the morn? * *
Opposites Are the Same
See the sparrows flutter about in the dust. Flapping their wings Cleansing them selves with dirt.
If you or I were to do this Our body would grow more soiled. Requiring water to accomplish the same task We wonder how cleansing is possible?
O spiritual traveler, remember, The objective of purification May be reached By a number of means.
Sometimes these Paths Appear as opposites.

Weathered Form
In the woods, up ahead is a fallen tree. Slowly, the trunk decays and goes back to the soil. In this process, all manner of creatures Draw sustenance from its weathered form.
In time, we too will be like this tree. Yet, our soul miraculously Will have traveled to the next place. Learn from this. Ponder its meaning.
Remember, make your hours here A celebration of Light and Love.
* *
Empty House
When the house is empty And those we love have gone, O how sadness weighs heavily on a heart.
Yet, we are never alone; We have within a wonderful capacity To touch those we love And call forth joyful memories.
Here, in our world of personal creation, There is no time and space; And we unite together, again, In our Father/Mother’s Arms.
