Darkness

Age Group: Adult
Darkness falls softly
to welcome us all.
Are we not Children of the Night,
born of woman
to toil and suffer through the years
until we yearn to be brought into
the fold of everlasting night?
In turn we have partaken of
the Cauldron of Cerridwen,
the Cup of Immortality.
Is it not the darkness
that brings the glow of
enlightenment shining brightly
like the full moon of a
Witches Sabbat?
A light easily seen yet
many times overlooked.
A light that brings sight
yet without the harsh glare
of the daytime sun.
Some claim the darkness to be
a fey place
wrought with pitfalls
and danger to the soul.
Their words and hearts
are filled with fear and dread,
without Perfect Love,
and Perfect Trust.
Have we not embraced the darkness
and gained wisdom?
Have we not been caressed by the night
and been given enlightenment?
Have we not seen the shadows
moving in the night
and gained insight into
the Divine Nature of ALL things?
Are we not the Sons and Daughters
of the Dark Goddess and God
as well as the Goddess and God
of Light,
Nepthys & Hathor,
Gwyn Ap Nudd & Lugh?
As a child, for hours on end,
I would sit alone in the darkness
in my room, like a warm safe womb.
Doing nothing imparticular.
Sometimes thinking
upon the larger issues of life,
existance, death, birth, love...
often just sitting meditatively
without forming thoughts,
except for those that
would occasionally pop into my head...
during summers, listening to the
crickets and "neeker-breekers"
chanting their chorus of songs.
In the Darkness, at age 11,
staring up at the Moon
and praying to the Goddess,
all the while knowing
I was one of HER Children,
a Child of the Night,
and so moved within,
that with parchment and blood,
pledged my life to Her,
to the seeking of wisdom
in the Darkness...
Many years have passed since that time.
And yet throughout the years
nothing has been,
or ever will be,
as moving as that night.
Since that time
the Darkness and I
have become one.
It has permeated
every pore of my body,
every ounce of my soul,
filling me to overflowing.
To those who have
difficulity seeing the dark
or are lost in the darkness...
just look up...
for there
in the shimmering light of the Moon
is the key to the Darkness and the Light!
