A Biblical Resemblance
by Stewart Bitkoff
Age Group: Adult
In the part of the US where I live, this summer, it seems as if it has rained just about every day. Going weeks without sun; probably setting weather records of sorts. After awhile, all this rain, wind and darkness gets on my nerves and stimulates my fear response; wondering if we will lose electrical power, again, which is essential to our way of life. Also as I age, I develop aches and pains from all the dampness and humidity. The gloominess of the weather, coupled with life’s daily worries makes for a long tiring day; wondering when/if these problems will ease.
In Noah’s time, for the flood survivors it stormed for 40 days/nights, they probably worried the rain, darkness and destruction would finish them. Yes, when in the middle of the tempest it is like that- we wonder if the darkness will end, and if we can make it through the long storm unharmed.
A wise man once told me: ‘when faced with the night it is easy to forget the morn.’
Yet in time, the sun returns and slowly restores order and some of what was lost. That is the nature of things. The Universe is ever changing; evolving upward with multiple opportunities; darkness and light being part of the eternal cycle.
How easily we forget; particularly as we struggle through the long dark night.
