Set Me Free...

Long I have held the pain within,
But the insanity drives me out.
The voices cause such a din,
And I find this too hard a bout.
I fear all I am, all I have seen
And being around people too much.
Though still my eyes brightly sheen,
The smiles could crumble to mulch.
Memories of abuses and pain
Thoughts not wanted ever more,
However I see again and again,
All that to me passed before.
Too young to know what happened,
When he tried to take my virgin bud.
Too weak to defend self unaided
Against the hate and fear in flood.
For not only was rape the cause,
For my peers, instead of friendly
Were acting as tearing saws
While my mind needed touch tenderly.
Still I shudder and freeze
When most men approach me.
Though even the gentlest breeze
May cause my fear to once more be.
How I wish I could be free.
How I wish I could be free.
Release me please from this pain
And set my mind to rest at ease.
Never more to see again
All that tossed my inner seas.
Free my mind from this agony,
Free my emotions from their prison.
So that I may live peaceably
And once more be gently risen.
Set me free.
Set me free.
I only want to be happy.

Author's Notes: I was reading a work by someone else on this page, and it brought back the memories again... I hate them... I blocked out most of my so called childhood rather than deal with the pain. But now the pain comes back, and when it hits... I can't fight it. It's driving me insane! I know I seem all sunny and cheerful to those who actually know me... But if they would only look, I think they'd seen past my glittery facade to the dark within. I don't know. Maybe I've worn this joyful mask too long... It may have grafted itself to my skin. I don't know... I simply don't know.
