For So Long...

Age Group: Adult
For so long,
We have had to hide.
For so long,
Our lives were darkened.
But now, our time returns.
People will see us
For who and what we are;
And the old fears
Will begin to fade.
We return to the light!
We return to the day!
Our stories,
Our tales
Will be told anew
Without the prejudices,
The hates,
The pain
That caused our occlusion.
Breathe the sweet air!
Turn thy face to the sun!
Like the perennial flower,
We will bloom again.
Strong, pure, whole, intense,
Free, open, without the barriers.
Hear us, for we sing today!
The world opens its long closed eyes
And sees us.
For we have always been here,
Waiting, biding our time,
Until we could step once more
From shadow to light!
All the powers that be,
I pray we can so be free.
Too long we have waited,
Cowering in fear.
Now we step forth,
To shine with thine light.
Guard us, guide us always.
So mote it be.

Author's Notes: The local news media here covered a story about a Wiccan/Pagan group (since I told them it was happening) ... And they did it without prejudice or even bias!!! I was so happy! I think the United States is facing more than a "moral crisis" simply because our rights are being taken away by fools! And that is showing by our own brand of "extremists" trying to take away our right to belief and practice as we wish. Well, I for one am not going to stand aside and let them do it! That's why I told my friends in journalism about it! I'm hoping Wren will let me post a link to the news article that ran... I guess I could post it here, but I want more people to see it than just the ones that read the poetry. And I may even be able to get a video copy of the newscast story to people that are interested... But that's up to Wren, not me... Here's hoping... Blessed be, all of you!
