Love's Season

Love's Season
Love is such a wonder
So hard to comprehend
Emotions and splendor
Your viewpoint it will bend
It fills every moment
It steals your heart away
With bliss or with torment
Its game you're bound to play
Above you it towers
By day and in your dreams
Each moment devours
Constructing silly schemes
The clock has gone cuckoo
When hours seem to crawl
But then, when it's you two
It's never slow at all!
You sit in the garden
To contemplate a flower
The petals may pardon
But not so with the hour
You know you are happy
In spite of all you pain
Your words will be sappy
Your speech will sound insane
And in this confusion
You question everything.
Is love an illusion
Which haunts us every spring?
Just what was I thinking?
What forced us two apart?
While deeper we're sinking
Despite a broken heart!
Your mind seeks an answer
And quickly erects it
A courage enhancer:
But there is no exit...
You quietly ponder
The way to an end
And suddenly wonder
The meaning of "friend"
So armed with this label
In "friendship" you come
Convince, if you're able,
Without sounding dumb.
The summer has ended
The heartache is gone
The mind has defended,
And you have moved on
But fickle is reason,
And more so the heart!
Anew each new season
We'll once more play the part.

Author's Notes: This poem may seem out of season, for is not spring the season of love? This we are told and obliguingly live out year after year without further explanation. The ultimate secret is that when real love comes, it has no season, because when it comes to love, for the heart it will always be spring. Blessed be!
