Remembering Silhouettes

Remembering Silhouettes
Dancing mute shadows are crowding my wall,
Candle-lit silhouettes' beckoning call.
Still, I can’t help it, the way that I feel
Trinkets of memories silhouettes reveal.
Tickets and letters, a useless old ring;
Paper reminders: my memories sting--
Outlines of moments when hours could fill
Endless exuberance to live and to thrill.
Days spent together when life was a toy
Playing at teasing each moment a joy
Life was the present, forgetting the past
We found in each other completion at last!
I look at the candle within its bright heart
I see your eyes glowing not wanting to part
The warmth and the closeness, an endless embrace
Now live in the candle but no other place.
So how did it happen? I'll never know when
The joy and the laughter turned hollow and then
The phrase "you are mine" possessive became
When love turned to panic, despair and to shame
I still can remember the fondness we shared
But now it has been for so long since we cared
My need to be whole clashed with ego and fears
Our love was a mem'ry I viewed through my tears
The evening is silent, the stars are all out
The shadows are growing throughout and about
And silhouettes casting a siren song spell:
Bewitching my moments with dreams I knew well.
