The Curse of Youth

The Curse of Youth
The grip of now, relaxed:
I traveled with no boundaries
To places seldom seen
Where images and mem’ries
Converged in fields of green
To breathtaking sapphire seas:
Where skies awash in azure
Suspend the warming sun
While days of simple pleasure
Pass countless, one by one
To flower-speckled glades:
Within the frame of nature
Devoid of any doubt
Life filled each day’s adventure
With secrets to find out
I never thought to question:
This fairytale existence
So free of serious strife
Which young in age and presence
Unthinkingly call life
The weeks and years just moments:
Upon a time so endless
No limits in the mind
Devouring and restless
To see what we could find
As moment led to moment:
The pace was always right
At ease and never formal
With prospects ever bright
Sensations legion, normal
With mood and weather changing:
The storms would not disturb
The ordered life we led
There was no need to curb
In public nor in bed
Still headlong rush so anxious:
Our days we would consume
With gluttonous abandon
The chase we would resume
Our pleasures never done
And so did life continue:
Till in the chill wind graying
Alone, I stopped to think
Monochromatic setting
For gauze, still oozing pink.
