Analogy

by J. Sandy
 Age Group: Adult

Analogy
The compass, the wheel Directions reveal Each one will be true For me and for you My path I must seek To others, oblique We each have our way From which we can't stray Your path is not mine So I must decline Advice and consent To my goal not bent Inward we enter From edge to center From east to the west My travel is best Your path to the north We'll meet center court Yet we can not trade The choices we made I north, and you west Will bring us no rest What's right for the one Leaves others undone Directions' effect We each must respect You stay in your line And I'll keep to mine Thus each of us may Be truthful and say I honor your choice As my own I voice And some day we'll greet Where path endings meet Together once more, We each found the door!
J. Sandy
Author's Notes: Unlike in other religions where you are supposed to take the same path as everyone else, walking in the same direction to reach your common goal, my faith may lead me to a common center, but my path lies in a different direction than the directions which are right for another. The analogy of a cart weel's rim as a starting point, and the different directions of the spokes of the wheels (all of which meet at the center) is the analogy I like to understand how my Wiccan brothers and sisters may each follow a different path or direction, but share the same final destination as we join Divinity at the end of each of our journeys.
