Age Group: Adult
One Moment I am wet and Cold,
The next I am covered in a blanket warm and nice,
After a thousand more I figure out I am to be sold,
Sold to a family who will keep me safe,
And teach me how to be kind and bold.
I learn I am called Shadow,
I am two,
I have a sister who is dressed with a ribbon bow,
I eat alot,
Alot of things I should not.
I am once more passed along,
Once more adopted,
Yet I do not feel sad afterall I feel soothed by a song,
Not a song but a voice,
Kind and soft yet crystal clear.
By now I am four,
I am young and I learn some more,
I learned the name of the soothing voice,
Her name is mother.
I met her husband and her son,
They took me to some woods,
Where the greatest beauty was the rising of the sun,
The smell of the grass after rain,
Yes there was nothing about to complain.
I am six,
I met the daughter
For fun I often chew on wood and eat sticks,
I have gained some weight,
Some say I weight about two or three or more bricks,
Yet I love them and are with them I am happy ,
They are happy to have me around and love me.
I am Ten,
I am getting more and more calm,
Discovering my inner puppy and quite possibly Zen,
A new young dog is brought into the house,
Are they replacing me?
I can be a puppy,
Please look at me.
I am Twelve,
Into life I continue to delve,
I still learn new tricks,
Many say I am healthy for my age,
I cherish the family I am with and how they treat me.
I am Fourteen,
The new dog is two,
We are like siblings,
We fight and we play,
It is like this every day.
I am happy,
I met Son's loved one,
I am enjoying the warm sunlight on my dark coat.
One day I am not myself,
I do not know where I am,
I am not hungery at all,
I just wish to lay down,
I am not in pain,
I have my family around me,
They are petting me and calming me,
Carrying me in the same blanket I was in at birth.
I fall asleep,
I do not wake,
Mother is bawling,
Son is comforting his loved one,
I am free,
Free to eat food that is not canned,
Free to wait for my family and loved one,
Free to wait in Summerland.
Author's Notes: Well... Today my dog mighta had a stroke... but he was pretty vegetative, and so we had to put him to sleep. His name was Shadow, a Welsh Terrier. We had him since he was two... his breed usually lasts till age 12, he was 14. I am going to miss coming home, hearing him bark, which oddly enough keeps the house safe. How he always knew when I was sick, and stayed at the food of my bed, even when food was ready for him. He was sweet and kind. Kinda shaggy... but cute *also made him cute too*.
We used to take him hunting for squirrel of all kinds... he loved it, after all, his kind is meant for Ratting, or chasing animals that go into the ground or into trees. He loved nature walks, and the occasional swim. So... we decided to get him cremated, and get him up north, where he belongs. I will be posting a picture of him soon... at least until we can do him right by getting him up north.
But, what I can honestly say I remember most, was the time he fell asleep on a floating bog, or even all the times that Shadow ate the weirdest stuff, and lived when even a dog of bigger size than he would have needed surgery. I cannot think of anything more to say... its... still not kicked in fully, that I am missing a dog... I do know that it happened, and that I am remembering him always.
