Did They Even Care?
by Gram Alabaster
Age Group: Adult
When I sat on the steril bed,
Did they care?
No not a one cared or worried,
When they inserted needles with tubes into my head.
When I took their test,
I kept going and gave it my all,
I did what they said,
I gave it my best,
But when I lay unconsious from heat,
Did any one person care,
No none cared not even for a heart beat,
All they did was write and stare.
When I kept going back to help,
They kept putting me through more pain,
But I did not feel that pain,
So I did not shout nor yelp,
Yet as they said,
Even if I was in pain,
My pain was their gain,
So did they care even one bit?
As I stumble out of the office,
Do they tell me where I am,
No they say that who I am will suffice,
Did they care then?
When I finally made it home,
Drained of energy and layed on my bed,
My "parents" burst on in and rapped me one on the head,
They said that they were suspicous of me,
I told them things that added up to three,
And all three added up to proving innocence of me,
But did they care where I was or what happened?
When my world collapsed around me,
The light at the end of the tunnel faded,
All there was is shadow and my blood is what I see,
When I sought out drugs and became jaded,
Did anyone care?
No the doctors did not care when they used me,
When I stayed until the tests were over,
Those oh so draining tests,
Until hours of the wee night.
No my Parents did not care,
That maybe I was doing good and helping medics,
That maybe I was quitting drugs,
Fighting for not only my life,
But others from thugs.
Yes some did care,
Some believed that I was their sustanence,
So yes my friends did care.
Even though my life long struggle will not cease,
I can make the suffering and the pain,
Of those around me decrease and maybe,
Just maybe cease.
Even through the darkness of my mind,
I can think of love and friends through the dark Chaos,
So that I can find my peace of mind,
And show my problems just who is boss.
