Born in a Place of Thunder

Age Group: Adult
Conceived of where the land
trembles and spits smoke and embers
hissing to the sky.
Born in a place of thunder
fed on the breasts of a lightning bolt
a creature of flight
of the low places
and the high lands.
A creature of myth
of fear
of valor.
Etched forever into the human psyche
spanning the globe with your tail
with your tales
one of those things that keeps us near the firelight
one of those beasts in the moonlight
an unidentified scream
carried in the midnight breeze.
You are the one who is worshiped
and slain.
Honored
and hunted.
Revered
and feared.
Born again and again
never dying in the hearts of mortals
I honor you again
as I have life upon life
for the soul is as immortal
as your wings of fire
with which you rival the sun
and sear the moon.
It is time again
to embrace
the flames.
