A Scarecrow in a Tornado (dancing as)

A scarecrow in a tornado
dancing as a scarecrow.
Dancing to the beat of the horses
the ground is wax,
and it is melting.
The trees have wicks,
lightning licked wicks,
disco balls
to the apocaylptic dance.
A masquerade.
Who are you coming as?
Beast or famine?
Disease or pestilence?
I am the scarecrow,
I will keep the birds at bay
that will pick at our innards
and sing a happy song
to the black dawn.
The ground is wax,
and it's melting.
The trees are wicks,
the candle in the window
burning to light the way
for surviviors,
dying and dead,
living and lost,
madmen and theives.
While poets scribble words onto their own melting flesh,
who would know the apocalypse would be so inspiring,
so beautiful,
so horrible.
I dance,
a scarecrow in a tornado,
until the ravens gather
to carry me off
into the black dawn.
