How’s Your Gratitude Attitude?

It has been a rough couple of years in this world of ours. Wars and terrorist threats make the news every day. You seem to run into every cranky person on the planet. You think that your phone might be tapped -- or soon will be -- or really should be. Your family is a little less than Brady Bunch perfection and the holidays haven’t even reached full swing yet and already you have run out of money and gained ten pounds. (You know where!)

Has your 'gratitude attitude' taken a big hit of late? Or are you still the poster child for the ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ platform? How do you maintain an attitude of -- or develop an aptitude for -- thanksgiving when the going gets rough?

Who and/or what are you the most grateful to/for?

I've Got A Lot To Be Grateful For... Nov 24th. at 9:32:41 pm EST

Jane Raeburn (Wells, Maine) Age: 37 - Email - Web

I have a job, a wonderful husband, a house, a brand-new kitten, a great bunch of friends, and a religion that brings me joy and responsibilities and learning. I am very, very lucky and I thank the Gods and Goddesses of my faith for their help.

One of the things for which I am most grateful this year is the ability to draw reasonable boundaries for myself. It's something I'm still working on, but when I do it I feel ever so much better.

Gratitude is a good point of view to cultivate. I've fought with depression and will no doubt fight it again. When I can find one small thing to be grateful for -- the beauty of the trees on my street, or the untrammeled joy with which my dog chases a leaf -- it's a chance to choose health and life.

' Life' Is What I Am Grateful For. Nov 24th. at 11:46:12 pm EST

Katrina Cheney -French (AUSTRALIA) Age: 38 - Email

My list of Gratitude could and would go on forever, so I will TRY to keep it short.
Yes we do live in a world that seems to have gone mad, but there is still Hope, while most grumble and wollow in their own negitiveity, some of us keep shinning on, and thats the key!!.
I am Blessed with a wonderful Husband, three beautiful children, a Grandchild and Good friends.
And I am Grateful to them for their love and surport. I am Grateful for the beautiful home I have and for all those things that make life a little more simple.I am Grateful to the Goddess and the God
for showing me that love and truth overcome all addversity if we wish it to be.
But most of all I am grateful for my "life",and show Gratitude for it each day, For without the experience of my existence CALLED LIFE, I would KNOW that which brings GRACE, that being
( GRATEFULNESS ) among many others.
Love the world and it will Love you Back, Show Compassion and the change will happen
Blessings to all
Merry Part

What I Give Thanks For ... Nov 24th. at 11:48:06 pm EST

Ali (Florida) Age: 17 - Email

Each day I give thanks for all the people in my life. Without my friends, I would definitely not have made it this far. I am now at a point in my life where I can more easily see the meaning and beauty behind small gestures. I am thankful for my life! :) Happy Thanksgiving, all!

Luck Of The Irish... Nov 24th. at 11:57:33 pm EST

Sasha (Australia/QLD/Brisbane) Age: 25 - Email

Hi everyone!
We don't have Thanksgiving over here, but I thought I would add something to the list anyway.
Although I might find a lot of things to complain about,(the kitchen's a mess, I need more shoes,I don't get flowers)when I think about it, I guess I'm not doing too badly.
I have access to my boyfriend's superpowerful computer, and the internet.
I always have enough to eat, and I get my groceries delivered via online grocery shopping.
We eat out or get take-away probably once or twice a fortnight, and we are able to rent a nice place in a nice area that's close to transport and shops.
There are a lot of people I know that don't even have a car, let alone a computer, and there are some people who just scrape by from payday to payday, hoping they can pay the phone bill.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that I have a wonderful boyfriend that gives me what he can, and takes me wherever I want on the weekend, time and money allowing.
So if you find yourself focusing on lots of niggly little things, stop a while to notice all the things you do have, and are able to do.
When I look at it that way, I think I am pretty lucky.

(I hope this didn't sound like bragging, it's not what I meant)

Lots To Be Thankful For Nov 25th. at 12:16:02 am EST

WakingIris (Iowa) Age: 18 - Email

I've got so much to be thankful for this year. Real food will be one of them. Life in college really makes a person miss homecooking. That and I have a great family that's been with me during a tough year. I've got a great boyfriend that has asked me to meet his family at Christmas. ((I'm SO excited!!)) I've got a job, a job I don't like but it's still a job. I've lost 12lbs, a side effect of being a broke college student. And many many other blessings. I'll keep looking at that silver lining, I'd go crazy if I didn't.

Many blessings for the holidays,

Thankful Nov 25th. at 7:09:03 am EST

clio (York PA) Age: 29 - Email - Web

My life hit rough spots earlier this year and, thankfully, I have moved past the stagnation. I have a lot to be thankful for, so here goes. I am thankful for:

my job. After a five and a half month stretch of being unemployed, it is really nice to be working again. I am drawing a paycheck and no longer feel like a freeloading slug. That's a good thing :)

my family. I have been blessed with the greatest family. We are very close, and the dysfunction level has remained very low throughout the years, for the most part. They have always been very supportive, even through the seven year college career. I love them most fiercely.

my cats. The family cats are the greatest. Bubba and Sissy are definitely god and goddess angels with fur. They are even more cute now cause they are fluffing up with their winter underfur.

my degree. Although my degree has yet to be utilized since I finished earning it in May, I am still very grateful to have it. Seven years of blood, sweat, and toil made a definite imprint on my life and my psyche. Through mistakes and successes, I accomplished.

and lastly and probably the most important of all:

I am thankful for being alive. I see the beauty around me, whether it's the blue fall sky or the purple coneflowers in the backyard that have refused to die, and I thank the Lady and Lord profusely that I am a part of it and can appreciate it.

I will always try to focus on being grateful for the things I do have, instead of focusing on what I don't have (something I wasn't too good at during the rough times).

Blessings to all,

What I Am Thankful For... Nov 25th. at 10:22:07 am EST

MoonOwl (Egypt Lake, Florida) Age: 39 - Email

I am Thankful for many, many things.

I am Thankful for & humbled by the love of my husband & children.

I am Thankful for my health & the health of my family.

I am Thankful for our home and ability to pay for it.

I am Thankful for good friends and family to share our bounty with.

I am Thankful for my husband's job which affords us many opportunities and comforts.

I am Thankful for our full bellies and not having to choose between clean water or food for my family. Goddess be with those that do!

I too could go on and on, but it does start to sound like bragging and that is not my intention.

I pray for peace in this world of ours.

I pray for sanity and rational thought in our government and the World.

I pray we will all come out stronger and wiser.

I pray for all those who are struggling with grief. May it become easier every day.

I pray for all those who are struggling to survive in this World. May they have the fortitude they need.

On a lighter note: I am Thankful we were able to take in Disney World this past weekend - good for my sanity & rational thought after all this scary stuff going on. I came up with a solution to terrorisim (ok, my husband did). Put all the terrorists, foreign & domestic, on the "Small World" ride. Make them ride it until the message sinks in. For those of you that don't know the song, please, let me enlighten you.."It's a World of Laughter, a World of Cheer. It's a World of Hope and a World of Fear. There's so much that we share and it's time we're aware, it's a small World after all." After 72-hours on this way too sugary sweet ride all the terrorists will either be crying with shame or insane. Problem solved. Gotta love Disney.

Goddess Bless our Small, Small World!! We need it!

Happy Thanksgiving All. May our blessings be bountiful and our bellies too full including those of you in other countries.

P.S. Wren & Fritz, I hope Ruby is getting better... I'm gonna surf for news now. I think I can handle it again. I've been hit w/Tinkerbell's Fairy Dust:}!! Temperance will prevail. We have to have faith.

Thankful For... Nov 25th. at 10:33:32 am EST

Athena (Dale, NY) Age: 23 - Email

Even though life has handed me more lemons than I care to make lemonade out of, I am thankful and grateful for the way things have turned out. I am happier than I was last year. I have a wonderful fiance who I will be spending the holiday with. I have a wonderful two year old son who never ceases to amaze me with his joy and love of everything he sees. I have my health and those around me do as well. I take comfort in knowing I make people happy, and that they are happy with me too.

Goodness Nov 25th. at 10:38:02 am EST

Things Are Looking Up Nov 25th. at 11:01:28 am EST

i am constantly around my friends and family again i have a job that i love and all in all im just really pleased at the way things are going im living off of love and art at the moment and it feels great i always look at the positive aspects in life but this year i just have so much to be thankful for

Thankful, Who Would Have Thought? Nov 25th. at 12:10:17 pm EST

Stephanie Bolen (Hickory, NC) Age: 20 - Email

With a big down turn in the southern economy, and family problems stemming from the stress of unemployment, no one would blame me for being major league ungrateful this Thanksgiving. But I'm not, I feel thankfulness in my heart and not just mouthing the words. My family is not all healthy, and we probably won't have enough money for a big dinner. But that doesn't stop me from being grateful for the wisdom I have been imparted this year. Or the serenity I have felt during times of extreme emotion all around me. I have cried and fallen this year, and I have no idea where we go from here. But I know I will not crumble and shatter; I will come through the other side entact of soul and mind, and for that I am thankful.
