Question of the Week: 98 - 2/10/2003

Would You Live In A Haunted House?

You have found the perfect house. But it’s haunted. Doors open and close. Lights flip on and off. Footsteps are heard in the hallway, furniture is rearranged and ghostly figures are spotted wandering the grounds.
Would you move in?
Would you be comfortable living with ghosts and/or paranormal activities? Or would you send the spirits an eviction notice?
What are your thoughts on paranormal manifestations?

I grew up in an old farm house my grandfather built. He passed away in that same house and he stayed in that house. As a child I would hear him walking about, lights would flicker on and off unexplained. The house had cold spots and family members would dream of my grandfather visiting them. When my mother died of cancer in the same house, the night of her funeral. I awoke to hear little girls giggling and running around the downstairs. The smell of lilacs was heavy in the air. Of course it wasn't lilac season and I had all boys at that time. I finally told my mother that I was fine and she could go "home". The noises stopped at that momment and I got a very restful sleep. So, I am used to it. In fact the house I live in currently, even though its a fairly new "shoe box" type house, there are spirits here that have followed my husband or that are attached to the land & the house. I have gotten used to seeing things, hearing things. However, I have many times "evicted" spirits from my home. I don't mind spirits roaming around me, and if it's harmless activity--that's fine. But if they get out of hand with messing with the children, or they intent is to harm or I feel uncomfortable with their presence it's time for the "eviction" (lol I love that term for it) . My thoughts on paranormal manifestations, just another apart of my every day life being married to my husband, and from my childhood. That's it, I guess.

I lived in a haunted house as a child (though it wasn't anything very dramatic) , so the thought of ghosts doesn't bother me. Though it would also depend upon whether or not the ghosts were malicious or not. Coincidently enough, my husband also has lived in haunted dwellings before, so the idea doesn't bother him either.
As for helping them move on...I'm not qualified to do that, though I might try if I could communicate with the ghost (s) and determine that it was the best thing for them.
There's a lot more out there than meets the eye, and working with the things you encounter in an amicable way, while understanding that we're not the only intelligent life forces out there is simple courtesy and shows respect. To do otherwise would be sheer arrogance, or at least, very ignorant.

Benevolent spirits would make wonderful housemates, and give ample opportunity for learning experiences. I would probably have an issue if the spirits were malevolent, but hopefully it would not come to that. I think that there are spirits all around us, its just that not all choose to show themselves. If they find it important enough to make themselves known, then it must be important enough for us to listen to them.

Haunted wouldn't be the problem. The place I am now has a poltergeist. What or who is haunting the house etc might be a problem. If I felt that whatever was there still wanted me out, after enough time had passed to settle in, I wouldn't stay. After all "it" was there first.

I now live in a haunted house, this spirit seems harmless enough, but likes to play little jokes on us. I routenely get locked out of an empty house. I always get back in, it's not trying to keep me out, but just playing a little game with me. I have never seen anything, but I have heard it, and you can feel it's presence almost constantly. It has never tried to hurt anyone, but is a comforting, protective presence ( this may be the only house I've ever lived in that didn't require a protection spell on it) . I have developed a friendship with the spirit in my house, and hope that I can do the same with any other haunted houses I live in

I would love to share my home with a spirit or two and have in the past. Its only scary if you let it be.. spirits offer alot, if you embrace and welcome them most are happy for the company and have things for you to learn.

I would live in a haunted hause. I live in one right now, actually. I can sense those who decide to "haunt." I find it quite peaceful to sit there and communicate with them.
If the person was harmful, then I would have a problem with it. I would then send them an "eviction notice" I wouldn't want anyone to hurt the people that I love.

When my wife and I first got together we lived in the little house next door to her parents and the tv came on in the middle of the night sun catchers would fly off the door and strange noises wer heard. THe big brick house that her parents live in has three different spirits in it sometimes you hear people talking softly upstairs the banker who had the house built back around early 1900's had his wife placed in a glass coffin in the round room downstairs for a long period of time so she still is there her grandmothers spirit and an unknown man is also present at times

I would love to live in a haunted house. I believe I would find it very stimulating. Of course, I would probably scare the spirits more so than they would scare me!

I would not be afraid to live in a 'haunted house'. I truly believe in the paranormal. At times I have felt spirits in different situations. My mother has just recently been told that in my grandparents house (her parents, now deceased for 20 years) that the tenents have seen and felt the shadowee figures of a man and woman. They are friendly and never bother anyone but just kind of wonder around..My grandparents lived in that home for almost 50 years and I can see them not wanting to let it go..I wish I could experience their presence but I do not live close to the home.
Another instance, my sister was in her just deceased FIL house and all of a sudden the kitchen light started flickering on and off. I believe the switch was off at the time..They were speaking of him at the time. She also heard heavy footsteps out her bedroom window one morning (she lived far from town on land he had owned) She had a feeling it was him and she quickly looked out her window and no one was there..but she knew it was him..
My mother also told me of a time right after her father died. she was in her kitchen (she took care of him in his last days) after he died and she was at her sink, she felt someone touch her shoulder and she turned around a saw a dark, smokee figure that she felt was her father. She seems to be sensitive to the spirits of others, as her mother was, as my sister and youngest daughter are, and as I seem to be.
I believe there are those who just find it hard to leave where they have been for so long..In my grandparents case..they both died of natural causes My sisters FIL died a tragic death on his farm..
May all your encounters be friendly.... BB Silver

Yes i would be terribly scared, but that would override my curiosity. I think would really like to so that i could overcome my fear.
I think that is why my mother visits my sister and not me, cos before she passed away, she said i am going to come back and scare the Sh!& out of you kids, and pleaded with her to not do it , because she would probably scare me to my grave.
I have always been curious to see if i could handle it, though.
Blessed be Toni
