Question of the Week: 110 - 5/14/2003

What’s Your Favorite Element?

Do have a special affinity for one of the elements of Earth, Air, Water or Fire? Do you find one of these easier to work with than the others? Do ritual objects or other items associated with this element just seem to find their way to you?
On the flip side, do any of these elements – or what they represent – give you trouble? (For example: If you are drawn to the Fire principle, do you struggle with the emotional or spiritual aspects related to Water?) How do you balance out the elements within yourself? If you are ‘missing’ an element (or more than one) in your astrological chart (few or no Air, Water, Earth or Fire signs), do you consciously make an effort to enhance or strengthen the influence of that missing element(s) in some way?
What symbols, tools, animals, compass direction, emotions or spiritual guidance do you associate with the elements of Earth, Air, Water and Fire? And what does Spirit represent or mean to you?

I guess I would have to say air (though I never really thought about it before) . I love the wind. I grew up in the Appalachain Mountains where it seems like the wind blows constantly.
Other than the fact that I'm a Gemini (which if memory serves is an air sign) I have no idea how this fits into my astrological chart.

My favorite element is Fire. I am a leo with the sign of Fire, and in the Chinese zoaidc i'm dragon with element of Fire also. I'm pretty good with fire, making it burn and playing with the flame. =^_^= I Love Fire.

I'm a completely biased Goat here; My favorite element is Earth. I love just going for walks in the woods (usually to avoid school... *whistles innocently*) and trying to see if I can find anything unusual.

Plenty Of Earth, Little Spark | May 14th. at 8:21:51 pm UTC |

Though I am a Libra, an Air sign, my moon is in Capricorn, and the majority of planets in my birth chart are also in Earth signs. I have a couple of planets in Water, and only one in Fire. So, while I have a lot of traditionally Libran traits, my greatest affinity is with Earth. I loved playing in the dirt and mud when I was a child, and I've had a lifelong love of stones (and not just the pretty sparkly ones, either!) . People have told me that I have a tremendous serenity around me and that just being around me is soothing. Air would be the next greatest affinity. I love discussions of a philosophical nature, and I value intelligence and good ideas. I love windy days, and when a thunderstorm is about to come through I like to stand outside with my arms outstretched just when the wind is really starting to pick up and let the energy blow through me. Next would be Water. I like running streams and rushing rivers. I'm not an openly emotional person, but I feel things deeply, and I can empathize with most anything (but I'm not an empath) . Fire is my weakest Element. It takes a great deal to get me worked up. I'm not a particularly brave person, and one of the few things I get really passionate about is sex! ;-) If I didn't persist in having lots of candlelight when I do ritual, there'd be almost no Fire in my life at all. To me, Spirit is ephemeral yet complicated, an intricate melding of the other four elements that is so complex and intertwined that to even attempt to separate the strands would destroy the beauty of the whole. Spirit is the animator, the thing that is of the elements, but also what gives them their existence. It is life itself.

Feather Of All. | May 14th. at 10:10:38 pm UTC |

Whenever i'm troubled and wish to talk, i always think of Air. Since i don't work magic beyond wishes, prayers, and the occasional color, candle, or scent magic (i see drawing circles as being a bit messy, and it draws unwanted attention) i use meditation to heal problems, and normally i visit the elements in my mind. Air is normally a quick responder, and talks to me if i'm troubled. However, Water is the most compassionate. I found an outlet for my pocket-burning money, since i have a problem spending, and i don't like to really waste my money: fish. i have 4 goldfish (one gold/white, one black/gold, one white, one gold/black) , a spotted silver pictus catfish, a bronze catfish, an albino catfish, two female bettas, and two male bettas. The two bettas are kept in seperate glass goblets on my windowsill above my bed, and the rest in a community fish tank against my wall between windows, next to my arm chair. One of them had bad vibes, and i had to ask my guardian to protect both of us from it. It went away. I use Earth for most of my protection needs and for blessings. Fire is for beauty, protection, and purification. I don't use fire so much for Protection, but for its beauty. It's soothing to see fire, almost as soothing as it is to hear water. Soul healing, sort of.

Balance | May 15th. at 12:29:13 am UTC |

I try to balance all the elements into the magick I am inspirerd to do. But if any sign I have to get more intune to and that would be water. I am A fire sign (leo) but my moon is in scorpio wich is a water sign. All that tells me is that I have to get to my feminine side by asking the Goddess to help me accomplish my goals and to be more balance in goals.

Fire And Air | May 15th. at 5:22:46 am UTC |

Jarren (Yuma, Arizona) | Age: 33 - Email - Web |

My strengths lie in Fire because I'm a very passionate person.. and Air... the element of thought and new beginnings. I've always considered myself to be a "harbinger" for lack of a better word. What does that mean? Simple! My whole life, no matter what I've done or where I've gone I've always brought change to those around me. Sometimes it was for the worse, sometimes for the better.. but always change. In my 20's I learned how to better get ahold of this situation. It's too long to go into here, but I had a dream one night of being visited by a VERY big fiery bird. It didn't speak with words, but when I woke up I knew I had been visited by a Phoenix. Suddenly my life made more sense. Fire brings transformation. The Phoenix is the embodiment of transformation. I've been accepted by the Phoenix, and now consider it my totem/guardian. Since then, my life has become so much easier. I don't fight the changes that the element of fire brings, I embrace. I'm learning to balance my nature out as the years go by. Learning is never ending. Earth is the element that I've always been weakest in, so I'm working to strengthen myself there. The trouble is that I'm having difficulty finding existing materials in my studies. Maybe you guys can help point me in the right direction. I'm looking for the mystical/psychic attributes of metals right now... specifically titanium and bronze. If anyone can help, please contact me at areaj69@hotmail.com It would be most appreciated.

Water And Air | May 15th. at 7:30:25 am UTC |

My favourite elements would have to be water and air. When ever dealt with a problem i feel i could just grow wings and fly away Water is a great element for being free in. You can do so much more in the water then you can on land and its so relaxing to just float in the water. When its raining it would have to be my favourite time. It combines the air from where the water desends from and the water itself. Even at the age of 12 without knowing it i would slip into a trance while watching a thunderstorm.

It seems that I'm much like the majority of people here, and while I usually would try to be different, I find I can't be in this case. Like many others, my favorite element would have to be fire. I'm a leo, which fits me perfectly in so many ways. My athame is the only tool that found me before I found it, it was my first tool, and it is my favorite by far. My altar is in the south, and my patron god and goddess are both fire deities, though I also associate my god with air and my goddess with water, so likewise I place my god candle on the left side of my altar, east from the south, and my goddess candle on the right side of my altar, west from the south. Deities, to me, can't easily be classified into one element, and spirit can't either. Spirit isn't just spirit, it's the witch, it's all the other elements, it's the world around them, it's the world within them, and it's the world beyond. I use nothing to signify spirit but myself, and I feel that is adequate. To signify air, I use incense and feathers, for water, I have a chalice and a seashell, for fire, my athame and my candles, and for earth, i have a collection of gemstones and rocks.
