Question of the Week: 106 - 4/13/2003

What Is Your Inner Animal?

Do you tend to ‘bark’ at people? Howl at the Moon perhaps? Do you have catlike reflexes or can your psychic ‘whiskers’ pick up nearby energy vibrations? Do you have a ‘nest’ or like to ‘burrow’ under the covers? Do you actually even growl sometimes?
What animal traits do you think that you sometimes exhibit? Has anyone ever told you that you remind him/her of some animal?
How much of an animal nature do you think that we humans might retain? Should we attempt to completely conquer or tame the ‘animal’ within? Or do you consider your inner animal to be an ally or alter-ego?
What is the name of your inner animal? If you share space with an actual animal, does the animal (or animals) consider you ‘one of them’? Can you and your animal friends communicate in mysterious ways?

The first totem animal I encountered during meditation had everyone stumped. A sheep - named "Melchior". I finally decided he was a holdover from my strictly ingrained Christian religion, but he said he would teach me wisdom and I have found him to be a great help.
The second one is a Mother Bear, and she has made me the butt of my childrens' jokes from time to time, but I am very protective and can't help it.

| Hail To The Cat | Apr 14th. at 9:58:27 pm EDT |

| Stormwind (Canada) | Age: 25 - Email |

A cat, by goddess, a cat. I'll actually meowl if startled, not knowing I'm doing it. I can speak to my two cats in their own language, and they talk back... The cat would not be my choice, but frankly it is what I am most like.
When I was younger I lived in a very isolated house with a forest behind it. There was no city, no neighbours, no other children so I spent much of my time communicating with the animals and have a strongly developed "animal self"...so much so that I don't really belong in the human world. My inner animal is not something to be "conquered" or even really allied with because it already IS me, is part of me, entwined with me.
I don't have a name for this animal self. When I was younger I always felt a kinship with unicorns. My totem animal is a bat.

| Probably A Cat | Apr 14th. at 11:07:32 pm EDT |

I think my main inner animal is a cat. I adopted/rescued a long-haired black cat 2 years ago after having kidney donor surgery. He lives at the farm where my other soulmates (my horses) live. I can be 'catty' and sharp at times, but love to snuggle, very much like "Harry" does.

i think my inner amnimal is a bird. i like to fly away sometimes to meet new horizons at the same time i like to be just like a bird in a crowd or family however i am a very individual bird, very is often alone and yet it very easy to meet and mingle with people sometimes it kills me emotionally to be so independent it makes me feel very lonely....somehow i feel i lost my mate in the process... | Snake | Apr 15th. at 12:15:46 am EDT |

| Gehrig (Southern California) | Age: 17 - Email |

More often than not folk think negatively of snakes, but I would discourage this. Pesonally I've always had an affinity and a talent for anf with them. Then in a meditation to find my "Younger Self's" animal form I came across a huge black snake with a green tint to the black scales. Truth be told I hiss and bask, wrap and cling, and I am alot more in touch with my more primitive senses of smell and taste than most. But when inspecting the Chinese zodiacs traits for "snake signs" they all fit me rather well. For while a snake can be secretive, and mysterious it is also honest, while it can be passive and patient it is also a fearsome predator, and while it can be cold and calculating it can also be affectionate, sensual, and loving. While I may be in touch with my own inner animal I do recommend that others out there who do not know of their own creatutre inside look inward to find it.

| Flying Free | Apr 15th. at 2:19:02 am EDT |

| angel (California) | Age: 13 - Email |

If I were to have an inner animal, I'm sure it has to be a bird. I've always been fascinated by birds, always. I love to stop while I'm walking down the street and admire the crows flying or walking around. In books I always point out the birds before anything else. They inspire me to write/draw, as well as making me want to actually do something. I admire their beauty, and their freedom. They have powerful wings which can take them anywhere they want to go, and when I was a little kid, I used to dream about flying like the birds. Now I'm thinking that when I get a little older, I want to travel, to visit evrery country I can. I also find myself acting like the birds. Kind of shy, an outcast from others, beautiful and free, yet loud and annoying at times.

| Austere Peasant (Canada) | Age: 20 - Email |

Well, I'm not certain - but I believe that my inner animal is a Zebra. I've never actually encountered one, but I love running free, love making stripe art, and have been known to bleet like a Zebra. I didn't find out I bleeted like a Zebra - or even that Zebras BLEETED until about a year ago, but have been bleeting in that manner for much longer.

I am a dragon. Snarly and gnarly and very protective of what I consider mine. I tend to stomp into a room and generally frighten strangers. (looks innocent) When angered, many have compared my controlled rage with breathing fire on a poor soul. Conversely, when I care for a thing, I will protect it to the death if necessary.
