Question of the Week: 98 - 2/10/2003

Would You Live In A Haunted House?

You have found the perfect house. But it’s haunted. Doors open and close. Lights flip on and off. Footsteps are heard in the hallway, furniture is rearranged and ghostly figures are spotted wandering the grounds.
Would you move in?
Would you be comfortable living with ghosts and/or paranormal activities? Or would you send the spirits an eviction notice?
What are your thoughts on paranormal manifestations?

I wouldn't live in a house because it was haunted, but If I found out that there were spirits in my house, I would do what I could to help them pass to the next life (hold a ritual, burn sage, sweep, ect)

on the nature of the haunting. If it's peaceful, ok. If it's violent, no. I've only had experiences with peaceful spirits, the kind that maybe pull at your toe or walk around without bothering anyone, but I've never been around a violent spirit and do not want the experience!I've always wondered, however, how we can have ghosts if we reincarnate... I guess that it's just one of those things I'll have to learn over time. I understand spirits that were never people. Are they in a limbo type place? Are they waiting around so that they can pass on with someone into their next life? Anyone with ideas on this, let me know!!!

I've lived in several houses that were "active". In one house (in NY) we had an elder gentleman who loved to be the center of attention. Raymond -- the elder gentleman -- was extremely protective of me and liked to play tricks on any men who came to visit -- whether it was a friend or my boyfriend! He was a trickster. If I could have taken him with me when I moved, I would have.
In my younger days I lived in ahouse in MA that was inhabited by a young man in his late 20's. He loved to change the radio station from rock to big band. My little brother simply refused to go to the upstairs portion of the house because it felt "too spooky" (which is where our spirit dwelled) , and spent spent 2 years sleeping on the couch.
Even before that we lived in a house in CT -- not as active, but something there.
Now that I am in a new house -- constructed only 3 years ago, I am rather lonely without my active spirits. I have been sensitive to them my entire life --- it seems odd *not* having them around.
Of course, I won't discuss the most terrifying 2 years of my life -- from 1985-1987 -- that was a haunting that disturbs me til this day. Only three people know about it...and that's just fine with me. It's the stuff of bizarre fact that should only be fiction.

If I knew a house was haunted I'd buy it for simply that reason. Houses like that have strong energy. This summerI stayed in a haunted house, although the spirits weren't mean, they weren't exactly friendly either. I have this theory about spirits and maybe some of them stay because they're not done partying. I could live with them unless they were hostile, if they started hurting me or my family, they'd have to leave.

I want to live in a haunted house, so does my fiance, I have one rule though, no mean spirits. First time something gets thrown at my head, that ghost it gone! And no touching the tv when Buffy is on. In my house that will get the living and the dead banished fast! LOL! BB

This is such an easy answer
NO
Why be fraid if your house is haunted most houses have a spirit present but if you disturb the spirit that is when you spirit gets annoying. If you learn to make peace, and live side to side you will have no problem its when you call the "ghostbusters" or when you enrage the spirit you get problems. Simply my answer is no.

| Haunted Car | Feb 10th. at 7:15:18 pm EST |

I would have no problem with a haunted house if it's anything like my car.
My car's certainly inhabited by something, though I doubt it's the shade of a dead human--it seems to have developed its own indwelling spirit. Doors lock themselves and are reluctant to unlock. The lights on the dashboard flsah on and off randomly. Music playing over the speakers has a few words oor an entire line of words "removed, " so I can hear the instrumental but not the words.
I've been asked several times why I don't exorcise my car, and frankly, I don't want to. Whatever's in it likes me, and I consider it good company. It's mischevious, but not malicious. Not to mention how many people are surprised that a car of that age requires so very few repairs...
If I met a malicious spirit, though, I would attempt to help it cross over, and if I couldn't, I would ask myself if I really wanted to live there badly enough to share the place with a cranky ghost.

| I Live There | Feb 10th. at 7:37:00 pm EST |

Define haunted? I live in a haunted house now. We have at least 4 spirits of ones who have passed away. 3 of them are loved ones of one of my room mates. The 4th one was here when she moved in 24 years ago. The 3 loved ones I feel are here to help and protect my room mate, especially with the situation happening within her family. The 4th one was here when she moved in 24 yars ago. None of them are michevious or malignant. In fact, it would feel strange if they were not here. As for strange things happening, we have phantom car drive up to the house on gravel we don't have. We also get the occasional cupboard door opening and disembodied voices. On occasion we have unexplained smell...such as early one morning of burning pancakes. My room mate thought I had gotten home from work and was cooking her breakfast. When she came out to check on the cakes, she realized I wasn't home yet and nothing on the stove. She told me this after I did arrive and I looked at her and said "Walt (her late husband) was cooking you breakfast. She takes comfort in that he is still here watching out for her. There has been more than one occasion of him making his presence known to us. It is quite often I am messenger for him to her, something she has respect and comfort in as well. Frequently he will show up in my dreams to tell her something and I am more than happy for him to do this. When he decides to go on, I will miss him, and so will she.

i would love to stay in a haunted house. it would be difficult to live in one, though. once, while on a vacation in indiana, my family and i were staying in a hotel rumoured to be haunted. it was very haunted! i love the paranormal, but living in a haunted house, especially with malicious spirits can be nerve-wracking. if the spirits became a nuisance or a danger, i would have to exorcise them.
