| We As A Nation, And We As Human Beings Across This World... ||Sep 12th. at 2:15:17 pm EDT|
|Lark (Clarksville, Tennessee US) ||Age: 56 - Email |
We as a nation, and we as human beings across this world, have experienced a terrible shock, one that we will not get over for a long, long time. For some of us, the grief and sorrow are on a very personal level if we had friends or family who are among the casualties of this act by persons as yet unknown. Some of us are effected merely because an event of this magnitude does touch us all as children of the Goddess.
Whenever there is a disaster, a war, an event of nature, we feel grief for the victims...but fear for ourselves is often missing because we can feel that it is far away, or that we can plan for the next one so that we are safe from it. This feeling of being in "control" of our lives is very important to our emotional well-being. But yesterday's senseless tragedy robs us of this sense of security. It **CAN** happen here, it **CAN** happen anywhere and at anytime. And while we might put security measures in place to diminish the risk of another such attach, the sad truth is that there is no way to completely protect yourself from someone who is willing to die to make a political point. And this sudden knowledge of our own vulnerability can have a very serious psychological impact on each of us. That is why terrorism exists and is so effective.
So in the next days, weeks, and months it is important that we do what we can to deal with the images of the past terrible hours. And that healing needs to begin right at home.
Understand that these images, disturbing as they are to us, are even more so to our small children who haven't the cognitive ability yet to understand what is happening, but who are frightened by the images and by the response they see in our faces. Be aware of the impact you may be having on these little ones. Much as we all seem to be glued to the TV set, limit the amount of news footage that the kids are seeing. Particularly pay attention when they say that images may be
disturbing. If the sight of falling bodies and burning buildings upset you, think what they mean to a small child.
Take time to talk to your children..if they want to talk..and explain as best you can that sometimes people do bad things that hurt lots of others. And reassure them that you will do your best to keep them safe..and that you will be safe yourself. There will be a time when they are older for them to understand everything that happened. Right now what they need is to feel that they are secure in their own home. And the truth of it is, they are. The chance of any of you personally being hurt or killed in a terrorist attack is minimal. Let's not let the little ones suffer for our adult fears.
Remember too that when we are afraid and feel helpless, when we see people hurt by terrorists..we often transpose these feelings into anger. Directly it is anger at the terrorists. But since we can't strike back directly at the source of our fears, it often overflows into our relationships at home. Be aware of your emotional state. Don't end up taking out your anger on those who don't deserve it, loved ones, friends, our children.
We also need to be very careful that our justifiable anger does not spill over on to innocent targets. Right now we don't know for a fact who did this awful thing. Yet I have already heard people on talk radion saying they wish all Muslims were dead. This is our fear talking, not our rational selves. And letting fear talk can lead to our committing acts we may regret later. Let us
reserve our anger for those who do deserve it, for those who committed this act, and for those who provided them with the tools and money to do it. It must be remembered, not so long ago we blamed the Muslims for another attack, only to find out it was committed by our own citizens.
While we are all made aware of our vulnerability by this act, don't let it become a fear so great that you cannot function in a normal fashion. Yes, we are still in mourning and temporarily immobilized. But if you suddenly find yourself unable to go to work because you fear that something "might" happen, if you can't leave the house without your heart pounding, then your fears have gained control of your life. And that kind of reaction is a good sign that you need
professional help to aid you in working through these events.
And don't forget the spiritual side of your healing either. Take time for yourselves to commune with the Divine. Ask for your own healing as well as that for others. Get outside and touch the earth, sit under a tree, find your center again.
Being able to offer help to others in worse need is one good way of feeling that you have regained some semblance of control. Most of us live some distance away from these disasters. But here in the States there are a number of direct ways that you can help. The Red Cross will continue to need blood in the coming weeks and months both to treat the victims of this disaster and to replenish depleted blood banks across the country. Sure the lines are long today, but in a week they probably won't be. Get out there and donate blood. If you don't know where to go, call 1-800-GIV-LIFE. And along with blood, relief workers with the Red Cross will be in need of many, many supplies to help with rescue efforts and in the shelters from those made homeless by the blasts. Any amount of money would be welcomed. Again, for monetary donations, contact the Red Cross at 1-800-HELP NOW.
We as a nation and as a world must do whatever we can to insure that this does not happen again. Terrorism is an attack on each and every one of us. In the past we have been ineffective in doing this because we have acted alone and have gone after only the individual perpetrators. We have learned to our sorrow that this does not work. The continued support of terrorist groups by countries around the world has meant an unending supply of individuals who are willing to die for what they believe. To be effective in ending this scourge, we must remove these safe havens. Can it be done? Yes it can. Those of us who remember the many, many airplane hijackings of the 1970's also remember how those became rare once the world decided that no nation would grant refuge to a hijacker. The nations of the world need to come together again now and say that they will not tolerate any such acts as we just experience, and that any nation which harbors, trains, or funds such acts will be held accountable.
This action must be carefully planned, based on accurate information that targets the real perpetrators and minimizes risk to the innocent around them. To do otherwise is to sink ourselves to their level. And once identified and located, then and only then could I see the use of military force to eliminate the terrorist center. And warning must also be given to the hosting country that
any action on their part to prevent our actions will be treated as a hostile act. Let there be no mistake, we must act..or we are all doomed to experience such acts again and again.
One final intervention that you here in the States, and one that you overseas, can do..is let your government representatives know that you give them your support to end the threat of world terrorism. Politicians are talking a good line right now, but months from now when the ashes have cooled, they may need reminding that the memories of these terrible days are still fresh in our minds and that they need to act to prevent any repetition of this event.
In the meantime, let us keep each other and all those across the world harmed by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers. Contine to come here as you need to vent your fears and anger. And know that the God and Goddess hold each of you in their arms.
| All I Can Feel Is Deep And Profound Sadness. I Can't Even... ||Sep 12th. at 2:42:42 pm EDT|
|Lorelai (Concord, California US) ||Age: 28 |
All I can feel is deep and profound sadness. I can't even feel angry. I see the anger all around me, and that makes me afraid. I'm afraid of the racism and hatred that I see this anger triggering, and I'm afraid of what Americans are willing to become to feed their anger. I pray for the families and friends of those who have died, and I pray for those who have been injured physically and emotionally. And I pray that we can rise above our anger and answer this tragedy with compassion and unity among all the citizens of this country.
| I'm Really Afraid Of What Bush Will Do. I Fear This Will... ||Sep 12th. at 2:44:05 pm EDT|
|Shadow FireRaven (N. Kingstown, Rhode Island US) ||Age: 16 - Email |
I'm really afraid of what Bush will do. I fear this will turn into WWIII which will me the end of life as we know it today. Once the nukes start flying its over.
I am really amazed at the unity the country now has. It's incredible. I'm really not into doing the pledge of allegiance or looking at W. Bush with respect, but I really have to at a time like this.
PEACE TO ALL.
LORD AND LADY BLESS.
| I Don't Know About The Rest Of You But I Had A... ||Sep 12th. at 2:47:50 pm EDT|
|Elvia Gomez (Fort Worth, Texas US) ||Age: 22 - Email |
I don't know about the rest of you but I had a hard time sleeping
last night. I saw a Palestinean on the world news cheering and
laughing and he said "This is great I love it, there should be
more." Right then is the first time I got totaly angry at such
human stupidity. Can't people see, even the President, that if we
want true peace in this world fighting wars is not the way to go.
I do believe that these terrorist should be stopped, but I do not
believe that starting a war will solve all of our problems. I am
just so confused right now. My white candle has been burning and
my thoughts and prayers are not only for New York and Washington
D.C. but for the world. This is a sign that we need to grow up
and take a look around. Were turning into a bunch of violent
angry mammals with guns. Everyone said something in the air is
changing and that they feel a forceful energy. Boy were we right.
| I Didnt Sleep At All Last Night. Me And My Friends Did... ||Sep 12th. at 2:55:28 pm EDT|
|Brianna (Cedar City, Utah US) ||Age: 15 - Email |
I didnt sleep at all last night. Me and my friends did numerous protection spells and chants for us, and everybody involved, whether directly or indirectly. I don't about everyone else out there, but I have experienced some very interesting visions. Some of them quite disturbing. I'm not alone in this, some of my friends have too. Email me and let me know if you have also experienced visions since the terrorist attack. I'm definetley interested in knowing what these visions could mean. Maybe, with your help, we can figure this out.

| I Just Wanted To Write And Express My Deepest Emotions And Thoughts... ||Sep 12th. at 3:01:46 pm EDT|
|Aryn Shadowfox (Durango, Colorado US) ||Age: 21 - Email |
I just wanted to write and express my deepest emotions and thoughts in this great horror we are experiencing in our lives. It really is a grave sadness to see what our world and it's citizens are capable of this day and age. A lot of times I want to just give up and let life take its course but then I snap back to reality and think about what I would do in a situation if I was in the midst of it all. We can't just back off and let it all just "happen." We have to stand together and be a greater people standing for a greater good no matter how big or small our efforts are. We all can help in some way or another. If you are able, give blood or maybe give a little money to the organizations, if that isn't possible, say a prayer or light a candle in the victim's memory. Like I said before, we can all overcome this horror by standing together to be strong and showing the world that we are not a poeple who will take this kind of anger lightly. Show the world our love and bring them into our hearts.
My heart and love goes out to those of you who have family involved in some way or another in the crisis.
Bright Blessings and Love,
| I Am A Pagan Living In New York. I Am Looking Out... ||Sep 12th. at 3:05:41 pm EDT|
|Anna (Staten Island, New York US) ||Age: 30 - Email |
I am a Pagan living in New York. I am looking out of my window right now at a horrific sight. There is a huge hole in the skyline where the twin towers used to be. I cannot express what I am feeling at the moment. I was up all night waiting for news of a family member with whom I spoke to at 9:15 yesterday morning. At 2 am he returned unharmed and tired. But he was alive. I have friends that are unaccounted for and I can only hope that they are not suffering or did not suffer. There is so much I would like to express, but I just cannot find the words to do it. I would like to ask that if there are any healing groups or just groups of Pagan/Wiccan people getting together in the Staten Island, Brooklyn or Ny area, please email me. I do not belong to any organized groups at the moment, but I feel the need to do something with people who are like minded. My thoughts are united with you all. ~S~
| It's Been Interesting To Hear The Response From Richmond's (indiana) Pagan Community... ||Sep 12th. at 3:08:51 pm EDT|
|Lady Teal NightRaven (Richmond, Indiana US) ||Age: 29 - Email |
It's been interesting to hear the response from Richmond's (Indiana) Pagan Community. Many are in agreement that something must happen (i.e. retribution and war), but I simply cannot agree with this. I guess I am a "dove" at heart -- I don't see how going out and killing more people is going to "fix" this situation.
Hasn't there been enough death already?
I am grieving for those who lost their lives, for their families and friends, for the horror that this country has experienced. But I will grieve more if I learn that we have chosen to meet death with more death -- more children without parents does not seem just to me. (Besides, the terrorists who enacted the attack are already dead).
I just want to clarify that I do think that "something" should be done to those responsible for the attack (aside from those who were on the plane). I do not in any way, shape, or form condone what happened. I am just concerned that rather than justice, we will just kill thousands of innocent people in some other country as we go after one target.
I don't know what the alternative is.
Silver (my partner) and I were talking and she asked me what I thought we should do instead, and I don't have an adequate response to it. Emotions are high for all of us, so I can only hope that in sharing my opinion I haven't stepped on anyone's toes, offended anyone or led someone to believe that I am any less appalled then they are over the entire situation.
In Love and Peace,
Lady Teal NightRaven (Teal Mercaeant)

| I Was Looking For Some Relief Here From The Old-testament-quoting Warmongering On... ||Sep 12th. at 3:10:31 pm EDT|
|Cat (Austin, Texas US) ||Age: 35 |
I was looking for some relief here from the Old-Testament-quoting warmongering on TV. I am saddened to see evidence of hate and fear among my Pagan brothers and sisters as well. Remember through our grief, rage, and shock that we are ALL connected, all beings linked together in the beautiful web of life that is Gaia. The desire to eradicate all evil, to exact revenge, has consequences similar to trying to eradicate all harmful insects with DDT, or trying to eradicate all germs with antibiotic animal feed. I fear for the women of Afganistan, who have suffered so much already under the Taliban -- how much more suffering would American bombing inflict on them? I fear we will increase again the amount we are spending on the military (already more than the rest of the world combined), at the expense of moving toward sustainability. Yes, holy war is an evil thing as these terrorist attacks have proven again. Demanding perfect safety from violence, death, insects, or germs is another evil -- an evil of trying to separate ourselves from the web of life. The answer is to anknowledge our deep connection, to seek justice for all beings, and to hold to nonviolence, courage, and love in the face of evil.
| This Horrible Incident Is A Wakeup Call, But Not In The Way... ||Sep 12th. at 3:15:36 pm EDT|
|Sandra Rodgers (Irvine, California US) ||Age: 45 |
This horrible incident is a wakeup call, but not in the way some might suppose. It is an urgent invitation to recognize our interdependence as human creatures in a complex ecosystem that incudes many cultures, perspectives, and beliefs. We are so good at seeing the little differences; it is time to notice the similarities. All of us human beings are the same in fundamental ways. We all need physical safety, security, belonging, dignity, and purpose. Whenever an outrageous act of violence occurs, it is a clear signal that someone's needs are not being met. Obviously, the victims are not safe -- and my heart goes out to every one of them. Difficult as it might be to believe, it also is true that somehow the perpetrators are in need. People don't just act horribly in capricious ways. Something drove them to commit this unspeakable crime. We must look there to see how to be more helpful, how to prevent future outbursts. This is one world, and we all share it. We might consider asking ourselves: are we contributing to the welfare of all? Or is there some room for improvement in our dealings with others? If EVERY single human being on this planet were to behave in a peaceful, responsible manner, we actually would have world peace. Tonight, as we meditate on world events, let's send extra gifts of love and blessings out to ALL human beings without reservation or exception. Can we all do this? Can you personally do this? Let's try.
