Question of the Week: 59 - 9/11/2001 911 America: Talking Through The Terror... Talking Through The Terror... And helping each other cope with the tragedies that struck at the very heart of the United States. The Witches Voice has opened up this forum in order that Pagans may express their thoughts on the terrorist attacks that took place in NYC and DC on September 11th. As the full realization of what happened and the toll numbers begin to come in, Americans have many challenges ahead. What are your thoughts on these incidents? How are you feeling? Feel free to post any magickal workings or other support gatherings planned in your area. Fritz and Wren, You are both amazing. Your constant vigilance to the needs of the entire pagan community is an inspiration to what community truely means. By offering a message board for the concerned to share their thoughts and words during a nationwide time of crisis is above and beyond anything I would could have imagined from a community web page. Thank you for doing everything you do with the WitchVox and creating such a connection for our pagan/spiritual traditions. Bright Blessing to you both as well as all those who need help at this time. First I must say that I am truly sorry for the families of the victims and I understand the horrible situation. But let's look at the reasons for this. The United States has been bombing Afganistan, for example, many times recently. The "we are the world police - we can do whatever we want"-attitude of the US goverment is very offensive towards other countries. The bombing of Pentagon shows the symbolism of this act - whoever is responsible for this, wants the United States to see that they cannot do whatever they want. What I am afraid of, is that when the United States will revenge... that could well result as the third world war. May goddess bless the thoughts of the US government so that they won't feel that revenge is necessary. My blessings for everyone in the US; may the goddess protect you all. Firelite |

My prayers and strength go out to those touched by this horrible show of ignorance. The American people, while scared, will not be subdued in the wake of this mass killing. We have shown through countless ordeals that we, as a united being, will stand up and fight for our Goddess given right to life, liberety and the persute of happiness. I was getting ready for school when I saw the news; the Twin Towers of New York City had been demolished by a 747 colliding into one. I could just stare and barely breathe as I heard the news reporter say that nearly 14, 000 people go to work there everyday... and that the death toll could be as much as 10, 000. I was shocked. As I walk into the school, I am slightly surprised to not hear any of the people talking about it. In trig class, all talk was about the algebra refresher and J-Lo. In passing, it was the same jabber about music, guys, makeup and the VMA's. But slowly, during lunch, i would hear people talking about a bomb in the Twin Towers, and then I felt I had to divulge the news to my group. The attack, the deaths, borders being closed, air planes being landed, I had to get it out of me. And I am still shaken by what has happend. Its almost as if it is a dream, something out of a movie. The images on the screen remind me of the movie Deep Impact. I couldnt register inside that this is it... that 10, 000 people are no more, crushed or burned to death by a horrible, twisted minded person. The I heard the Pentagon had been hit. The military portion had been struck, though not as badly as the terrorist had hoped, I think. The President, coming back from a vacation in Florida, called them something like cowards who would not show their face... though i guess they (the terrorist(s) died in the crash too. I am still reeling for it. In the autotorium, they showed some classes the news report, and right then and there I prayed. I prayed that the goddess send her love to those greiving, and send her strength to those departing into the other world, so that they will have the courage to be reborn. I prayed that the world would not have to go to war, that we could find a way to peacefully bring this to an end. But sadly, i think more will die before this is resolved. My father says this is the end of the world that I grew up in. He says that yesterday was the last day of normalcy that i will know. Men, teens just out of highschool, will be drafted to go to war to fight for their country. I wish I could be one of them. I love this land feircely, even if I disagree with many many things our society has come to. I fear that copy cats, seeing this, will start their own mini-war. I live near Seattle, one of the 5 major terrorist marks. We havent been warned about any bombs yet, though neither was New York. I fear for the lives of my friends parents, who work in places like Boeing, the Northwest Bank, those on the Sounder, and many other innocent people at risk. Im trying to to keep myself in a state of alarm, the goddess is my salvation in that i know I can come to her. i dont fear my own death, but I do worry about my friends. They might not have the agreement and understanding I have pieced together for my self. bless you all, and goddess bless you too |

I am moved by the outpouring of love here. I am proudest of our faith when I see it carry us through tragedy with our heads held high and our hearts open. Thank-you all who posted in love. This morning I prayed that we, as a nation, can respond with justice not revenge. I am concerned that this administration might take a heavy hand to this situation and make large mistakes that we cannot take back. Remember, the Lord and Lady hand out the divine retribution, we do not, it is up to us to do what is right and moral for ourselves and be responsible for our own actions. This is a chance to learn that just because others make decisions that hurt us, we cannot allow that to let us recipricate with more bad judgement. I also understand how, politically we have to respond quickly and with a show of force or we invite more of this by apearing to be a wounded animal, I just pray that it is powered by the spirit of justice not revenge. Give blood wherever you can, it would be even more tragedy for people to die in hospitals becasue they ran out of blood. Witches heal, lets live up to that call. Blessed Be, may the God and Goddess go in your hearts to cradle you when you are afraid, to lift you up when you are down, to challenge you when you are ready, and to remind you of who you really are. |

What can one really say about an incident like this? My initial reaction was one of disbelief ... it was just too unreal to be true. Then as I listened to the radio and saw the images on television, I numbly understood that this was real. Right now, the estimated death toll is 10, 000 people - just for the World Trade Center. I grew up in a town of less than 5, 000 people. I don't think any of us can really wrap our minds around that much loss of life from a single act. Each life, each family touched ... the weight of this disaster is simply too much. If any good can come of this horror, perhaps we'll collectively realize that our differences aren't so great. Maybe we can pull together as a country and stand together - like many families do after ill fate befalls them. My blessings and prayers go out to the families and all those touched by this. May their Gods comfort them and see them through this darkness and through the darkness that is no doubt to come. |

Me, I'm paranoid. These attacks are so unprecedented, and so coordinated, they seem almost beyond the ability of any known terrorist group. Even Bin Ladin hasn't done anything on this scale before. I am wondering if "Dubya" himself might be behind them, as part of an effort to suspend the Consitution and deal with his "enemies". Even if he isn't, will Americans panic over this? Will we see internal passports, checkpoints eveywhere, maybe roundups of those not Christian enough for the government? The borders are already closed. Probably not, but it is still very, very scary. Whoever did it deserves to be shot, of course. However justified they may think it, there is no excuse to target so many innocent people. I guess we are learning what many Europeans know about being vulnerable. Now we know what it is to live under the threat of bombs, and in fear of our own rulers. |

I am writing this to send light and love to all those affected by this terrible tragedy. I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I switched on the TV here in the UK. It was like something out of a bad movie, except this was worse, it was real. Many UK pagans I have spoken to are holding their own vigils around 9 (GMT) tonight to send love and healing to America at this time. Love and Light Ilmare |

In light of the recent terrorist attacks that have effected us greatly there will be a candlelight vigil at the Arlington UU Church. The address is 2001 California Ln. and their number is 817-460-6481. At 9 pm today, September 11, 2001. We will be meeting in the grove out back. This is a non-denominational vigil, anyone interested in attending is welcome! Also, word of warning, there may be local press coverage of this event. Please let everyone know to bring candles if at all possible. I'm not sure how many we'll be able to get hold of. Also, if anyone has flyers or info on where to go for blood donations, or Red Cross donations, please feel free to bring them as well. There will be containers for donations to the Red Cross there. I woke up this morning and put on my school uniform (I am one of three or four pagans in a Catholic school), expecting to be reprimanded by my French teacher for not having done her assignment. Instead, by the time I got to my French class, the principal of the school had already made an announcement that two airplanes had crashed into the World Trade Center. During the next two hours, the rumors flew through my school- that the Pentagon had also been crashed into, that the Capitol building was on fire, that Camp David had been attacked. I'll be burning candles tonight in memory of those who died, and to raise power for the wounded. I would like to say that I don't feel the need to hex the people who did this. However, New York City is forty five minutes from where I live. So I'd like them to rot. That would make me feel better, but it wouldn't help the wounded or the dead. What would help the wounded are donations of blood, and rituals to raise healing energy for them. I would donate blood, but the Red Cross people said I'm too young. So all I can do is raise energy for them. I hope you'll do the same. |

*** THIS IS A NATIONAL CALL TO ALL OF SPIRITUAL FAITH EVERYWHERE *** This is a detailed post as to a timeframe to unify our workings!! It is understood that not everyone can work together at the same time but it is requested that all effort be made to do so at this time. For those who cannot, it is ok, the energies will still combine and work together. This is a time that all people do what they can to aid those in need. As events unfold we will assuredly discover that injury and death tolls will be in the hundreds if not thousands. All people of spiritual faith (Pagans, Christians, Jewish, Muslims, etc.) should work together and combine their workings and prayers in an unified attempt to aid those in need as well as in the quick discovery of who is responsible for this horrific act of war. To the Pagan community that reads this is a call that all Pagans across the country focus on combining and directing their efforts and energies in this endeavor. This is a request that this evening (at approximately 9:00 pm EST) - covens, solitaries, learning circles, etc., from wherever you may be and gather together, should make a concerted effort to doing just this. I am in Scotland and just returned home from school when I heard the terrible news about the terrorist attacks in NYC and DC. My gran, my cousin and I have sat and watched the story unfold all afternoon. It may sound like a cliche but this incident shocked the world. I send all my love and hope out to all the families of the people involved in this devasating event. Words cant express sometimes what we feel in the heart.
