What's On Your Balloon?
We've all seen the bumper stickers and pins: 'Question Authority' or 'Hate is NOT a Family Value' or 'It's Been Lovely, But I Really Have To Scream Now'. Suppose every morning when you got up, there was a big bunch of slogan-balloons there that you had to give away during the day. What would YOUR balloons say and who would you give them to-- and why? (Sure hope some of those balloons make it over to a few of the political circus performers out there!) Wren (self-confessed ex-hippie chick and 70's put-the-daisy-in-the-gun-barrel-political activist) thinks this might be a good real-time idea to consider at protest rallies or to exchange at Pagan Pride events. Would YOU be gutsy enough to actually do something like this?

"Just say no - to sex with pro-lifers!"
"It's a Pagan thing - you wouldn't understand".
But my real balloon is a flag -- the Pagan flag. What, you've never heard of the Pagan flag? That's cuz we didn't have one, until now. Every movement needs a flag, though. The Xians have one. The Americans have one. Most Native american nations have 'em too. Even the Anarchists have one, though it is basically an unmarked black banner.
Anyway, I think we need a flag, to show our essential unity as a movement, and as a people. Like it or not, we are a people, now, and our fates are intertwined. Obviously a flag is not a big deal, but still, we, of all peoples in the world, know that symbols matter.
So, what does it look like? Very simple, actually. A gold pentacle in a gold circle on a green field, the whole surrounded by a gold fringe. The pentacle should be the proper kind, the "three dimensional" kind.
Now, imagine ten or twenty of them at your next Pagan Pride event. Green and gold are great colors for fertility and wealth, and the flag should inspire, well, pride in Pagans who see them, and curiosity in onlookers.
After all, what else is a flag for?

My balloon/bumper sticker would say: "Teach Religious Tolerance" or "Give Your Kids a Gift for a Lifetime: Teach Religious Tolerance"...
I'd give them to everyone I came across--from the urban dweller to the small town farmer.

My balloon would say:
"God told me to - and the Devil made me do it!"
The only people I would give them to would be the ones who laugh when they read it.

Yes, I would make some bumber stickers. I believe that the following ones would be the most popular:
"We are all One Tribe under One Sun."
"What Devil? Where?"
"I don't read my Sacred Texts to you, so don't read your Bible to me."

I apologize for the double post, but I justthought of a good one.

There is an exhaustive list of slogans that I absolutely love; these are some of the ones I could think of right off hand:
* Dog is my copilot (this one's particularly suited to anyone with canine children/friends/familiars)
* Jesus loves you - everyone else thinks you're an asshole
* Out of body; back in 5 minutes
* Be your own God/dess
* Invest in your country...buy a politician
* Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?
* Did you ever stop to think...and forget to start again?
And then there's my absolute favorite, the darwin fish.
My favorite of all the phrases posted so far: It's your hell, YOU burn in it!
Have fun, all...

"A true friends stabs you in the front." --Oscar Wilde
"Tsk, tsk. God says love everyone. Looks like SOMEBODY'S going to Hell!!!"
"If idiots could fly, this place would be an airport."
"Excuse me, but when was the last time I tacked one of YOU on a post and flamed 'em!?"
"I'm weird AND gifted!"
"I'm from Canada. Yes, we do have running water."
The last one is something I have to say to every American I meet on the Net! :)

I think the best bumper-sticker sentiment I ever came across is "Commit random acts of kindness" so I would put that in my balloons and pass them out to any who would take them. Why? Because I think kindness, like smiles, spreads contagiously.

"Its your hell, you burn in it."
I'd make sure i had a few of these on me at all times so when anyone told me I was going to go to hell I could just hand them one and walk away.
