Question of the Week: 86 - 11/24/2002

How’s Your Gratitude Attitude?

It has been a rough couple of years in this world of ours. Wars and terrorist threats make the news every day. You seem to run into every cranky person on the planet. You think that your phone might be tapped -- or soon will be -- or really should be. Your family is a little less than Brady Bunch perfection and the holidays haven’t even reached full swing yet and already you have run out of money and gained ten pounds. (You know where!)
Has your 'gratitude attitude' taken a big hit of late? Or are you still the poster child for the ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ platform? How do you maintain an attitude of -- or develop an aptitude for -- thanksgiving when the going gets rough?
Who and/or what are you the most grateful to/for?

I am very grateful for to my soulmate who inspires me in so many ways to live my life to its fullest potential. I'm An Average Person..... | Nov 27th. at 7:40:26 pm EST |

Etain (Ohio) | Age: 31 - Email |

with an average life. I'm just a regular person out there trying to make it in the world. Like everyone else I have good days and bad. But I have to admit my life is good. Yes, I'm worried about our govt and the environment and every little thing everyone else is worried about.....but I love my life. I don't have any money, but I wouldn't trade my life for the world. I'm grateful I have the most wonderful husband and daughter in the world. (And no we're not perfect.) I'm grateful that I know my family will love me & suppoert me no matter what happens. I know that what I put out into the universe comes back to me. Naturally I am generous to friends and family....I don't try to force it or be fake about it(eg: yeah if I do this then the universe will give me that). I just give what I can (and sometimes I have nothing for myself), but I swear I get so much in return that cannot be measured. I am rewarded and blessed so many times over with conspicuous and inconspicuous gifts that I cannot even to begin to describe them. I guess I always live like today will be my last day, because I never know when it will be. Enjoy you lives and have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families!

Grateful | Nov 27th. at 9:46:54 pm EST |

Bryan (Indiana) | Age: 29 - Email |

I am grateful for my wife and hers. I am grateful for my network of friends. I am grateful for my children, and all our pets. I am grateful that my motorcycle accident earlier this year didn't hurt me any worse. And I'm thankful for the fact that there are a lot of diverse opinions in the world, and while the world is largely intolerant of them, that's slowly changing.

Nine And One Half Years Of Sobriety And Karma | Nov 27th. at 10:33:56 pm EST |

Bellanotte (Long Island) | Age: 36 - Email |

Each year another layer of my true self is revealed. Sometimes I am willing to look and other times I avoid it but inevitable what lessons are instore for me come to the surface. I know now what is meant by the saying "I'm not getting older , I'm getting better." Except I am grateful to be getting older.
To be specific I am grateful for my life partner who along with our son, picked up and move with me to Long Island because I wanted to "come home." And while many parts of this island are breathtakingly beautiful, I am grateful to have learned this year that "home" is where my family is most happy. And that means moving back to where we came from.
I am grateful for karma because this year has been one of incredible emotional and spiritual growth for me. I have faced things I ran away from nearly 20 years ago. Today I am even more clear about who I am. After nearly 13 years of not practicing the craft, I have been called again and this time my mind is clear and I am more focused and mature enough to apprecuate the lessons that the Goddess has instore for me.
Lastly but most importantly I am most greatful for the privilege and honor of being granted the opportunity to be a mother. My son is my joy, my inspiration and my teacher.
Bright bleesings to everyone this holiday season!

Family, Friends, And Being A Pagan | Nov 28th. at 5:45:49 am EST |

Simonis (Uzbekistan) | Age: 47 - Email |

I'm thankful for my family, my few close friends, my cats, and for all the growth and internal peace I've found this year. Despite all the highs and lows, some things remain constant - the glow of the moon at night, the stillness that accompanies snowflakes in the country, the constancy of trees. I'm thankful for learning that every day I wake up is a good day - it may go to Hel in a handcart from that point, but at least I woke up and have the opportunity to make things a little better in the world.

Curate's Egg | Nov 28th. at 4:56:45 pm EST |

Octarine (S Brixton) | Age: 35 - Email |

What I really appreciate is access to the internet - a lifeline the last few years when the going got extremely tough.
This year (since February) has been so much easier than the last 5 years or so, that it's hard to believe. So I appreciate a disability doctor who for once believed the person she examined and his carer. And a benefits system which still works, more or less. And free dentistry from a good dentist. And sheer cussedness, without which I'd be dead by now. But most of all, I'm thankful than I don't live in the USA, Afghanistan, or Iraq.

Being Alive | Nov 28th. at 5:28:27 pm EST |

Lupin (the Atlantic Ocean) | Age: 35 - Email |

Thanks for being alive after a four hour operation this autumn and for my lover, and family, and my two cats, and my friends who are more supportive than I could ever have hoped for. In return I ask good wishes of the Goddess for my friend Maggie who is fighting an unidentifiable illness and her cat Tiddy who is recovering from a thyroid operation. Blessed Be.

There will always be horrors, anger & sadness in this world. If I dwell on it, then it can be extremely debilitating...and I end up in the padded room at the psyche ward. =P

Index Is Rather High | Nov 29th. at 1:31:17 am EST |

Myrddin (wisconsin) | Age: 55 - Email |

My gratitude index has been rather high since three years ago when I had open heart surgery for a quad bypass. My LCA (left coronary artery) had a 98% blockage. I was a ticking bomb waiting to have the big one and didn't even know it. I have a wonderful wife (who is a nurse and likely saved my life by getting my butt into the hospital after I had eaten 100 nitroglycerine pills while trying to work 1/2 hour work, 1/2 hour rest after pill for pains to go away). yeah, I was stupid. And lucky. My wife and I are partners in everything and like one person. My exwife and I remain good friends. Two great sons with good heads on their shoulders and kindness in their hearts. Good friends. What more can you ask? That's really all you need in life, ya know?
