| It Is The Little Things In Life... ||Nov 20th. at 6:57:14 pm UTC|

I find that the big joys or tragedies are easier to understand and either enjoy or overcome, albeit with help. These are things that others experience and live in their lives. However, just as a papercut can be painful while it gains no sympathy from people (as opposed to a broken leg), it is the little things in life that can either trip me up or keep me going. A smile, a cute pet, a nasty look, a lack of chocolate... These little things can add up during the day.

The longer I live the more my motivations are driven by my deire for the Craft to survive. In addition to leaving my daughter something of spiritual value as well as mundane security, I am ever focused on contributing to the longevity the spititual path of Wicca by whatever means possible, be it through writing, public speaking, supporting like causes, or the building of a Santuary devoted to the Elder Gods. Since I believe we need more safe places to worship and coven, I have bent my will to that task. The green, the rich earth, a place where others may come and have an environment of open expression and study; this seems to be a worthy goal. So the motivation would be one of providing support for other believers and ultimatly a legacy. Stormbringer

I personally don't follow the rede. Why? Phyllis Currott's Witch Crafting has a great section on this too. If you worship all life as sacred, and feel the divine in everything that is including yourself and if you see all the inhabitants of this planet as extensions of the Gods and Goddesses then why would you ever want to intentionally hurt or bring harm in any way to anything? You don't have to have the paranoia of the Rede or the three-fold law to stop you, you respect and love your Goddess/God so much that you want to always do what's best for people and the earth. I know that we all make mistakes and screw up but it is one's intention that makes the behavior harmful or not.
So I watch my intentions and try not to do anything that seems overly selfish or harmful.
I love life and I love the Goddess so that's my reason for motivation.
I have a temper when someone really makes me mad and purposely tries to hurt my feelings or p*ss me off. I have had huge cravings to cast hexes on these people and ruin their day or say something like "for the rest of the day you will find everything going wrong." I just keep reminding myself that the root of nearly all conflict is fear...and mostly in my age bracket of 20-25 or so it stems from low self-esteem, so people in order to build themselves up attack others to try to soften their fear that they are afraid noone will like them for who they truly are. So they hide behind the masks of anger or attitude. I try to remember that these people are suffering and I don't need to add to that suffering.
My statement that sums up stuff for me is from the Charge...
"If you don't find it within you will never find it without"
This is how I live. If I want something like friendship or love I have to start at home first, inside myself. I know that if my intentions are wrong then I will encounter people who are harmful and situations that are harmful, so I try to keep my insides clear.
| Reaching Critical Mass Forces Me Out Of Solitude ||Nov 21st. at 12:10:58 am UTC|
|Hanowah (Ohio) ||Age: 0 - Email |
My motivation is simple: The Winged Ones are dieing by the thousands. I have been a silent, solitary for 20 years, but now I must speak. For seven generations, I have hand fed chickadees and other songbirds in a nature preserve near my home. The pulse of their wings has filled my ears as the Winged Ones have landed in my hand thousands of times. But now, the birds have fallen from the sky by the thousands. The "authorities" blame it on West Nile Virus, spread by mosquito bites. Yet, with my daily walks in the forest, I swatted 4 mosquitos from May until the October frosts. Still, even published reports indicate that 10,000 great horned owls have died in my state alone, plus thousands of red tail hawks, a personal totem of mine. What we are not hearing is that uncounted thousands of songbirds have died as well. This time last year, at least 5 different feeding flocks of 6-15 birds swarmed to my hand along a half mile trail. Today, on the same trail. I fed 4 chickadees. I saw five. A local rehabilitator tells me that the birds are dieing a horrible, wasting death, complete with convulsions. A mature great horned owl was brought in alive,weighing only 14 ounces, soon to colvulse and die.
It is time for all those who walk in the Light to make manifest for our Winged Ones on both the material and spiritual planes. Feed the birds to help them through the winter, and keep your feeders clean to avoid spreading more deadly diseases. At least 35 states have reported dead birds testing positive for West Nile, and what will your world be if the Winged Ones are gone? It is time to set ego aside, and to do the Work on behalf of the Winged Ones for the Good of All. After all, they are indeed the proverbial canaries in the coal mine. They have touched me so, I can also guarantee that each one is a divine individual, each one is a Being. What motivates me to finally call out from my solitude is my profound grief over these terrible losses of uncounted thousands of magnificent life forms. Please help in any way that you can because Mitakuya Oyasin: "we are all related." We have the Power to transform reality, and our winged relatives desperately need this transformation as do we all. Finally reaching this critical mass has motivated me; what is critical enough for you to Focus and Act Accordingly? What's it going to take?

My headline signs it up quite well. I ask myself if what I am doing would dishonor myself or those I care about. I also put my family first in almost everything. If you can't count on family who can you trust?

Every day I see what disharmony does to this planet and its inhabitants, including four-legged,
winged, scaled... By following my path I feel that can make difference in their lives, even if its just one at a time. The Goddess has smiled on me for many years, I can remember knwoing Her before I knew much of anything else, and I like to reflect Her love - inside and out. Since Her love is given freely, doing rituals for the Earth is just one way to show Her my thanks.

Though the Rede is a driving force in my life, I also try to live my life as a compassionate and understanding person. I am always the first to listen to other people's problems and offer advice when I can. When conflicts arise I look for the cause before finding the solution. Life is difficult enough without going through it without compassion and understanding.
| Quotation? ||Nov 21st. at 10:03:08 am UTC|

I came across this quote by Plutarch while surfing a Latin quotation site just yesterday. I find it nicely sums up just about everything I stand for, so I thought I would share it. It goes:
"Vos vestros servate, meos mihi linquite mores."
Translated, it reads, "You keep to your own ways, and leave mine to me." It seems to me that if more people took this quote and made it a rule for living, the world would be a much better place (I know the US certainly would). As for me, I'm making this my own personal motto.
| With Freedom Comes Responsibility ... ||Nov 21st. at 12:19:59 pm UTC|

One of the truths Wicca and Pagan thought teaches is the immanence of deity. The Gods are in us and around us; they permeate and ensoul the world. That is a truth many faiths have recognized, in many cultures. One such example is the Indian greeting "Namaste": that which is God in me salutes that which is God in you. The Catholic thinker and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery stated that his civilization had made Man the inheritor of God, that all people were ambassadors of God, and he interpreted the seven virtues in this context. Because we are all holy, living in a world that is also sacred, we bear a great burden of responsibility toward our fellow humans.
That is what has motivated me and the Siouxland First Wiccan Congregation to become involved in our community. Late August, we were approached by one of the local media, asked what we intended to do on September 11. It struck me that we, as an accepted religious community, were expected to do something to give something back to the community. Since then, all of our Sabbats have included community action and toward fellowshipping with other congregations.
It still surprises me just how warmly we continue to be received. True, not everyone will love -- or even accept us. In fact, one of the local fundamentalist churches has begun to pray for us. Well, it's a free country, and as long as their actions do not turn harrassive, let them do what they want. Meantime, we have plenty of other work to do.
Work is its own reward, and that's another big motivator for me. The psychiatrist Wilhelm Reich stated, "Love, work, and knowledge are the wellspring of our life. And they shall govern it, too."
Robert Heinlein, in _The Moon is a Harsh Mistress_, put it more bluntly, "Taanstafl! No free lunch."
That works, too.
| Does Music Qualify? ||Nov 21st. at 12:47:00 pm UTC|

I don't know if this is Pagan oriented but I have always loved listening to music and it's a high motivator for me. And it seems that no matter what is going on in my life, there's always a song that comes out that shows me what direction to go in. Like the song "Missing You" by John Waite came in at point in my life when I needed it.
