Question of the Week: 106 - 4/13/2003

What Is Your Inner Animal?

Do you tend to ‘bark’ at people? Howl at the Moon perhaps? Do you have catlike reflexes or can your psychic ‘whiskers’ pick up nearby energy vibrations? Do you have a ‘nest’ or like to ‘burrow’ under the covers? Do you actually even growl sometimes?
What animal traits do you think that you sometimes exhibit? Has anyone ever told you that you remind him/her of some animal?
How much of an animal nature do you think that we humans might retain? Should we attempt to completely conquer or tame the ‘animal’ within? Or do you consider your inner animal to be an ally or alter-ego?
What is the name of your inner animal? If you share space with an actual animal, does the animal (or animals) consider you ‘one of them’? Can you and your animal friends communicate in mysterious ways?

Frankly, it is in the middle of a change. The Wolf in me is still strong and I have a habit of biting people. The thing that gets me is I seem to be going from a wolf to a lion.

I would probably combine the turtle and the owl, not just for myself, but probably my entire family. The shell of the turtle is its own battle armor. And its own strong house. Every time my mom gets sick just about every grandchild of hers draws her a little turtle smiling and saying "You'll make it!" Wouldn't surprise me if she has forty or fifty of those pix!! That and "mean old" Mom never let me keep a turtle I caught. Even if I stuck it in a two gallon bucket, she always claimed it ran away! It's pretty bad that I didn't realize she was bluffin' until just a couple of years ago. See? Another reason I connect with the turtle!!:)
The owl is probably because it helps guide me into the right paths in life. I am blessed to have a silver and turquoise owl pin that was my grandma's. I keep it on my altar to let me know that she wanted all of us to have sufficient wisdom. Just about everybody in the family has an owl to remind us of Grandma.
Those two animals basically describe myself and my family!
Blessings!!:)

| Always The Cat | Apr 16th. at 11:02:06 pm EDT |

I have always had cats since i was a little girl. I have been drawn to the large cats, especially the tiger, cougar and jaguar. I have been told by my healer that I at one time in my journey was procected from danger by a jag. I find cats fancinating. I have great respect for them. I have found over the last several years , that I can feel what they feel and sometimes can hear their words. My nick name is KAT. My family has said that my death would probably result in being killed by a cat because I have no fear around them.

I've had cats all my life, but as I get older I relate with snakes, as well. I find myself getting more and more cold blooded and am happiest when lying in the sun (preferably at the beach!)

| Different Traits.... | Apr 17th. at 7:16:16 am EDT |

| jade (canada) | Age: 17 - Email |

when i was younger i had an amazing connection with crows, ever since then, the crow has been my guide. when i'm having a problem, he's around, he's in my meditations.... but my traits are probably a mixture of a few animals. i can walk without making a sound and am very stealthy and graceful at the same time, in that aspect i'm like a deer. some people really look like a kind of animal, i really look like a cat. no jokking, my eyes are a yellowy-green, exactly the same color as my cat's, and i stretch and sleep like cats do. i also am intuitive when it comes to my cat, i know what she wants and when. personality is different from these two. i am a tiger. with all animals i have a connection, i think that animals can sense when somebody is harmless, and i'm patient. most people can get tame animals to come near them, i can do it with wild ones, not necessary come to me, but they won't move and they'll let me get close. it's like magic!

I am a lone witch and I feel a strong connection to the Raven. I see them every day and when I am thinking deeply about something or questioning something I am not surprised to sense, see or hear the Raven guiding me to an answer. Another weird thing is that I often feel a pair of black wings behind my head and I feel a strong breeze even if it is a calm/still day.
I feel that we must embrace our 'animal'nature but not tame it. If we suppress what is a facet of ourselves we are denying the true nature of our spirit. I think that society has given a bad connotation to the word "animal". We should strive to uplift the status of our otherkin (as I like to call them) and this can begin with something as simple as conversation - don't compare someone you may dislike with an animal or attribute 'bad' characteristics to an animal. It is not fair and not right.

| Its A Dogs Life..... | Apr 17th. at 8:34:41 am EDT |

I've always had a close link with the canine breed. I have grown up with Dags all my life. My first Dog sally taught me how to walk, She would walk up to me turn her rear to where I was sittng and wait for me to hang on, walk away and when I fell down she would do the same over and over again untill I learnt to walk. Georgeous Collie cross. I think she thought I was 1 of her pups. Weirdly enough I was born in the Chinese year of the dog!

| My Thoughts. | Apr 17th. at 11:03:55 am EDT |

I don't really see the point of the question. We're all animals, we aren't something seperate, so an inner animal? Does a dog have the soul of another creature? I think that we definetly keep that "animal" nature. There's really no point in taming that creature within us, whatever you call it, since we are born as we should be and so should remain that way. However, if I did have to pick, I would certainly pick a snake. People describe me as mysterious and cunning, typical snake characteristics. And a snake represents wisdom, so I would of course like to think this creature is in common with me. I do sometimes have other "animal" instincts, though. When I become very defensive of someone, I tend to growl low or hiss. Strange maternal instict. My eyes are always flickering back and forth, never focusing. I'd rather see everything around me as the smaller creatures must do to survive. I do have an animal, a small terrier named Silky. Silky and I definetly have a connection. He knows when I'm sad and comforts me, and I know just when to care for him. Sometimes I think he speaks to me. I'll be taking care of two birds from now on, so perhaps there will be a connection there too.

Canines in general have been my favorites and my familiars. But wolves, especially the Timberwolves are my favorites. There's just something about them that makes my pulse quicken at the sound of their howl. They are wonderfully magikal animals.

I think my inner animal would definately be a Siberian tiger. I am a very aggressive and controlling person most of the time. Basically, I like to "rule my own jungle." Tigers are extraordinarily beautiful creatures and some of my closest friends have often told me that I reminded them of one.

Throughout previous lives lived before our human form was achieved, Many animal lives would have been expeirienced. So to narrow it down to one, only one out of how many? must have been expeirienced to become human is folly. I believe as a human we tend to lean tward the animals to comfort ourselves. The obsession with a particular animals' vibrations and tendancies constantly are then aquired to mask the truth. To further become that animal is to be further from our human form. Why seek that? In certain instances, such as ritual in\envokations, cloaking yourself with these animalistic covers may assist in the success of the goal, but to become that animal is to take away from our huuman form. Dont get me wrong--I am all for understanding all instincts and all parts of intuition learned, but also I think it is important to keep in mind that the turn to human is a big one, and one that you should seek to master by facing the truth about what being human is. We are seperated by our animal counterparts by our ability of distinctive choice, and because we can control our instinct and surpass them. This makes our responsibility greater, and that Goddess given responsibility should not be shirked, or ignored by focusing yourself into an animal once again. (this is just my opinion)
