Question of the Week: 86 - 11/24/2002

How’s Your Gratitude Attitude?

It has been a rough couple of years in this world of ours. Wars and terrorist threats make the news every day. You seem to run into every cranky person on the planet. You think that your phone might be tapped -- or soon will be -- or really should be. Your family is a little less than Brady Bunch perfection and the holidays haven’t even reached full swing yet and already you have run out of money and gained ten pounds. (You know where!)
Has your 'gratitude attitude' taken a big hit of late? Or are you still the poster child for the ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ platform? How do you maintain an attitude of -- or develop an aptitude for -- thanksgiving when the going gets rough?
Who and/or what are you the most grateful to/for?

| Grateful Enough | Nov 30th. at 5:48:54 pm EST |

| Alana (Milwaukee WI) | Age: 21 - Email |

I am grateful to have a roof over my head a boyfriend that loves me and that I love. I'm grateful for my cat and my human friends, and my mom. This world is not perfect, but nothing is. We shouldn't expect it to be.

| Thank You Lord And Lady | Nov 30th. at 6:26:26 pm EST |

| Jackie (Sacramento) | Age: 46 - Email |

I have so much to be thankful for. I thank the Lord and Lady every day that I can hear my loved ones' voices. I thank the Lord and Lady for meeting my needs in finding a home for my daughter and me and for my beautiful sister-in-law, with whom I've shared a home up until now. It was hard for us, but we knew it was time to take this step, and the God and Goddess are caring for our every need.
Love and bright blessings! Jackie G

| I Will Always Be Grateful | Nov 30th. at 6:52:38 pm EST |

| Heather (Western Massachusetts) | Age: 20 - Email |

True that this is the first holiday season I've been on my own, money is tight and times are hard, but there is always something to be grateful for. I'm grateful for the view of the river outside my bedroom window, for the sun and the moon, the trees, for my friends who I see once a week, for emotion, for my cat, my dad, my little apartment, I am grateful for wisdom, knowledge, the ability to know and appreciate divinity in all things, and for my boyfriend who is my everything.

| A Lot To Be Thankful For | Nov 30th. at 8:28:33 pm EST |

| Bryony Ravenwillow (Kansas City, MO) | Age: 34 - Email |

I am thankful for so many things: A new husband who loves me and can do the dishes, a home to live in, continued employment, a stepson I love dearly, good friends. I am thankful that I can still practice my religion or criticize the President without fear of arrest (so far, anyway!). I am thankful for the blessings the Lady and Lord have given me, and for the wonders they continue to show in Nature's cycles and seasons. I am healthy, happy, and, for the first time in quite a while, I am content.

I have many things that some people are not blessed to have: a roof over my head, plenty of food to eat, clothes to keep me warm, and freedom & the right to express myself & not be repressed, oppressed or abused and treated like a second class citizen or worse! I have a wonderful, loving husband who appreciates & respects me; a terrific family who's always there for me, even though we live hundreds of miles apart; a job that I love & terrific co-workers who've become my second family & my two adorable cats, who are like my children. One other thing I must say is that our freedom is not free & we should thank all those who are giving their lives to purchase that freedom & sacrificing their time with their families so that we can enjoy time with ours; as a veteran, I feel very strongly that we should show our military people how much we appreciate them & are grateful for their sacrifice.... Happy holidays to all & blessed be!

| What I Am Thankful For. | Dec 1st. at 8:57:25 am EST |

| Foxheart (USA) | Age: 23 - Email |

Yes I find it darn hard to be thankful these days. The world seems such a mess at times and life can be a struggle... if you let it.
My solution to those nasty-thoughts that pop up day after day: Prayer.
I have my standard memorized morning and night prayers and they are a great comfort to me. However my best prayers come on the fly when I am truly in need.
I direct my prayers to Goddess and God and they are always answered. So I am thankful for this on a daily basis. I am also thankful that I and everyone I love and care about are in good health this season. I thank Goddess and God that I have a job and have enough money to pay my bills. I thank Them that I have a good car and a roof over my head. I thank Them for my being able to be with both my families for the holiday.
Basically I am thnakful for everything positive in my life and even some of the negative things that I feel I can learn from.
Peace and Blessed Be during this holiday season to all Witches' Voice members.

| VERY MUCH SO! | Dec 1st. at 10:58:42 am EST |

Looking back on this past year, we have had many bad things go on. In my area at least, we have had illegal piercing in my school, kids getting messed up on a cough and cold medicine called coriceden, our stadium being graffitied with swastikas and racial slurs, and of course nationally, September 11th and the now war with Iraq. I have lost my job and the love of my life(or so I thought), and my grades have dropped because of everything that has gone on in my life. Then one day I decided that I was not going to dwell on what had happened anymore. I got my grades up, I actually got my progress report and I am up to straight b's now from where I was almost failing every class. Thank you. And I realized that everything that has happened to me this past year actually was good for me. It was like the old adage,"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" type thing. Because of my break-up, I learned to remember that not everyone is as they say they are, and you cant trust everyone. I actually took the drug coriceden to get high and I swore that I would never take it again. I was one of the first kids to see the graffiti on my school and I learned that there are still racist people out there. We still have to fight for what we believe in. And now that good old Turkey day is here again, I realize how shallow I would be without these experiences in my life. They have made me care about people. I now have a better relationship with my mom that had been going really sour for about 6 months. My friends noticed that I changed. I also got rid of the people that have gotten me into trouble, my ex being one of them. I am grateful. Very grateful.

| Thankful, Of Course I Am Thankful!!! | Dec 1st. at 11:51:36 am EST |

Yes, the world is in a state of chaos and everyone is suddenly looking over their shoulders and wondering if they should be pointing fingers at their neighbors and extended family. Every person who carries a bag onto a plane or train is a possible terrorist with a bomb, knife, gun, ect. The Government has over-reacted in a big way by passing the homeland security act and now everyone of us is in fear of loosing his/her personal liberties. What could we possibly be thankful for? Just walk into your child's room at night while he/she sleeps, just look around at the home you have, your loving spouse ect. I have enough to be thankful for in my personal life that it is hard not to be thankful. I am not the poster child for "every cloud...." but at the same time, you can only allow so much of what is happening around you to get you down. The world is in a state, but no good can come of rampad paranoia or fear or anger. Each of us should simply try to remember that we are alive and well and still capable of saying no. Perhaps if each and every member of the world community would just stand up, look at our leaders and say no, all of this would stop. Just my 2cents, but that is how I feel.
