Question of the Week: 59 - 9/11/2001 911 America: Talking Through The Terror... Talking Through The Terror... And helping each other cope with the tragedies that struck at the very heart of the United States. The Witches Voice has opened up this forum in order that Pagans may express their thoughts on the terrorist attacks that took place in NYC and DC on September 11th. As the full realization of what happened and the toll numbers begin to come in, Americans have many challenges ahead. What are your thoughts on these incidents? How are you feeling? Feel free to post any magickal workings or other support gatherings planned in your area. On Sunday evening, Sept. 16th, 2001 6:00 PM, there will be a Pagans' Projection for Peace, Candlelight Vigil and Circle of Healing Light in Salem. beginning at the Salem Witch Village @ 282 Derby Street, Salem, MA parading down Derby St. to Riley Plaza where we will Circle around the central flagpole where our nation's flag flies. This event is hosted by P.R.A.N.C.E. (Pagan Resource and Network Council of Educators) and ALL organizations, community members, solitaries, covens, groves, individuals, children and adults - Witch and non-Witch -are all so very welcome to participate in this MUCH needed ritual of healing. Christians who are open-minded enough to work alongside Pagans are also welcomed to participate as are Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims who may peruse here. Please bring candles (some will be provided but quantities are limited), American flags and $1.00 to be donated - ALL MONEY WILL BE DONATED IMMEDIATELY TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS TO AID THEM IN THEIR EFFORTS IN NYC & WASHINGTON DC. This event is to initiate the healing process in our hearts, within our families and communities, cities, our nation and the WORLD. To project for peace and an end to global terrorism, for the healing of people everywhere on Mother Earth who have been touched by this horrifying tragedy. Just to be together, one night, joining hands and hearts is statement enough in the universe to show that love can conquer any and all enemies on this planet. I am sickened by the attitiude of some Americans. I have now heard two prominent American figures say that they need to retaliate, and that if they kill innocnet people in the process then so be it. This is exactly what the terrorists did, they were upset about something and so murdered thousands who had nothing to do with it. Now America wants to do the same. They are lowering themselves, they are becoming no better than the terrorists. And by claiming that this is the right thing to do, they are condoning what the terrorists did and saying that it too was right. Murder is always wrong. Lily |

There are so many things I would like to say, but the emotions that are stirred by the sights and sounds of the past few days are too much to express here or anywhere. I work in Manhattan and live in Brooklyn. Ash and interoffice mail had fallen by my house on Tuesday. The acrid smell of smoldering rubble has been wafting through ever since. This tragedy has touched my life in ways that I cannot express. My family members and some close friends that were working in the Trade Center that day were fortunate enough to escape with their lives. Some of my other friends that are members of FDNY and the NYPD weren't so lucky. It's so hard to fathom why anyone would do such a thing. It's even harder to be enlightened about it-personally I want all those who are terrorists and those who harbor them to feel our pain and misery, and not be able to cheer in the streets and hand out candy to children. People come to this country to be safe, and they succeeded in fracturing that sense of security, and awakening fear in the hearts of many about immigrants of all kinds. I think rituals calling on the Goddess as a vehicle of Justice would be apropos, as well as healing rituals. And don't even get me started on that Falwell moron! I'm busy with the rescue efforts here and I would like to ask anyone who wants to help, to please make monetary donations to the red cross or other organizations. Money will help them provide the rescuers with ample food, clothing, and other supplies. On behalf of myself and others here in NYC, thank you so much for your prayers, rituals, and thoughts for the victims and rescuers. |

The Las Vegas Pagan Pride Project will host on Sunday, September 16th a Pagan Healing Circle at Sunset Park. This Healing Circle is open to all and is non-denominational. We will be gathering at 6:30pm at Area B of Sunset Park, Las Vegas. Near the Hanging Tree, on the East side of the Lake (1st entrance off Sunset, past the soccor fields and on the left). As a Canadian, I have often laughed at the presumption and arrogance of our American cousins. America the brave, America the beautiful... As if no other country on the planet is as wonderful as the US. We laugh about the percieved ignorance that the US has towards other countries, even their neighbours to the north. We often believe that, as Canadians, we are more broad-thinking and enlightened. But in moments like these, when an unknown terror strikes out at unsuspecting innocents, without the courage to even name themselves or the reasons for their senseless acts, I realise that as a Canadian, I have more in common with Americans than I have differences. I realise that we are more than just friends and neighbours, we are family. I felt the same outrage at the attack on American values and way of life. I felt as though the borders between our two countries were blurred. Because in many ways, this act wasn't just an attack on you. It was an attack on us. All of us, American and Canadian alike. Our values and way of life mirror yours in many ways, and this act of cowardice has affected us all... and so have the amazing acts of courage that have followed. I spent 12 surreal hours watching the press coverage on television, because I didn't know what else to do. In a way, I thought that I had to watch, to keep vigil and bear witness to the horror taking place across the border. And the next day, I stood in line for almost five hours to give blood. In that lineup, I met many American university students, who could not believe the turnout at the blood-donor clinic. They thanked us for helping, even though we weren't asked. We told them we couldn't just sit idly by and do nothing. We are as saddended and as angered as any American... because this was an attack on us as well. |

>>What can be done besides bombing the heck out of whatever city, town or house we are targeting?>> It is our weak dependance on foreign oil that causes our government's constant concern and interest in the middle east. If only we had a leader that realized we need immediate alternative fuel reasearch and funding. I guess we all know George W. "Oilman" Bush isn't it. If we could begin to wean ourselves off Saudi oil, within 50 years the Middle East would cease to be of consequence in world affairs, and they could go on about their own business, as they strongly desire to do. Retaliation is not the answer. It will only bring the same to the US times three. There have always been extremists; who remembers when it was Kaddafi, Arafat, Kruschev, Pol Pot? Killing Osama Bin Laden will not stop the tide of terrorism. In fact, this attack is not the first in this particular cycle. It appears to be in retribution of the August 20 1999 Sudan bombings by the United States, which, in return, was a retaliation of the August 7, 1999 bombing of the US Embassies in Africa...does anyone see the connection? This is a clear example of how violence only returns to itself threefold. My flag is flying today because I love my country. I think it's the best in the world. But at the first retaliatory attack, it will come down. Why can we not concentrate on ridding ourselves of the middle east problem permanently, instead of creating a never ending cycle of retribution? |

I find myself struggling with my faith in the God and Goddess as I try to make sense of this tragedy. It is so hard to continue to surrender to the Unknown as I constantly remind myself that we can not know the purpose that this incident has for the universe. I pray for faith, strength, compassion, and the willingness to surrender to the will of the Divine. I am humbled in the presence of such raw force. I pray for all of us touched by this tragedy, whether friend or foe, that we may use this as an opportunity for great spiritual growth. |

I know most of you may have seen this already, but I think it is something very special that was written. I believe it was from an earlier war (Vietnam or one of those) but I think it still pertains today. Warning: It is quite long. Let's everyone keep praying and sending positive energy to those families, not just in NYC but all over the world. Bright Blessing and Blessed Be! TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing. America: The Good Neighbor. Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television Commentator, gave widespread but only partial news coverage recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record: "This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it. When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans. I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get Automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon Đ not once, but several times - and safely home again. You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here. When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake. Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those." Stand proud, America! Wear it proudly!! This is one of the best editorials that I have ever read regarding the United States. It is nice that one man realizes it. I only wish that the rest of the world would realize it. We are always blamed for everything, and never even get a thank you for the things we do. I would hope that each of you would send this to as many people as you can and emphasize that they should send it to as many of their friends until this letter is sent to every person on the web. I am just a single American that has read this, TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES. |

Dear Mr. Bin Laden Through this letter it is my firm intention to send you lots of love and light, which I believe you are in desperate need of. To my deepest shame, you are human like me, therefore you are my brother and I must take care of you. Mr. Bin Laden, you are a privileged being. You were born free, rich, beautiful and intelligent. Most people in our world struggle all their lives to get these qualities, and only a few succeed. I don't know what went wrong with you. Maybe you did not get enough love at childhood. Now look what you have done: looking for love all you've got was hatred and contempt; not from a single beautiful woman, who refused to get laid with you, but from billions of people all over the world. A huge black cloud of hatred floats over your head. Brother Bin Laden, you are doomed. Not a soul in this planet will give you shelter. Heaven will not receive you, for you despised your brilliant destiny; hell won't get you either, since you humiliated the devil himself with the perfect evil of your actions. It is time to sit down and write your will. Maybe you will get back to your senses and leave your fortune for the children in Afghanistan, so they will have some opportunity to grow up as healthy adults and share a world that will be much better than today, once you are gone. Mr. Bin Laden, perhaps you want to avoid a darker end, surrendering to an International Court. You will have a fair judgement and will be condemned, yet this is your better choice, far better than getting lost in the void between worlds. Think about it, and consider this offer.
