What is the best gift that you ever received?

Shopping during YuleTide can make you crazy and there are some great gifts out there without a doubt. But not all of our most treasured gifts were found in a store. What gift came at just the right time for you? Which one-physical, spiritual or a special memory-do you treasure the most? What special gift are you hoping to give to someone this year?

I Got My First Custom, Handmade Guitar - A Gallagher Ragtime Special - In... Nov 27th. at 9:42:52 am EST

Lasairochroidhe (Cedar Rapids, Iowa US) Age: 35

I got my first custom, handmade guitar - a Gallagher Ragtime Special - in 1996. It's a beautiful thing. Not just a wonderful gift from my family but the gift of luthier Don Gallagher's inspiration and vision as a true artist. It's even more special because he made it JUST for me, and actually had my music playing in the factory while he was working on it much of the time.

This year, we are giving a porcelain doll to a little girl who is going through some tough times at home - her parents recently divorced. The doll is remarkably beautiful, and we're hoping that she becomes a trusted friend and companion through times light and dark. My husband and I saw her right away when we walked into the store where we bought her - we just stood and looked at her for a long time and he said, "If you were a little girl again..." and I answered, "I'd love her." I can't wait to give it to her!

My Gift Of Insight And Wisdom Has Come To Me Piecemeal, Over... Nov 27th. at 9:50:21 am EST

Sunfell (Little Rock, Arkansas US) Age: 40

My Gift of Insight and Wisdom has come to me piecemeal, over many years and from many people. Nearly everyone I have met has contributed to it one way or another. Some givers have been positive, and others negative, but each encounter, each conversation, meal, meditation, article, book, or chat- has added to the layers of understanding, insight, and hard-won wisdom that is the root matrix of who and what I currently am.

This Gift is far from complete- I shall receive more and more of it until the day I die. As I grow older, I daily discover the richness of this Gift. The best part is that it cannot wear out, be stolen, lost, or destroyed. It is with me at all times, in all seasons.

What is really wonderful about this Gift is that when I share it with others, it continues to grow and give- for in giving of my own knowledge, insight and wisdom to others, I continue the great chain of the Ancient Mages, Wise-People and Adepts- those who came before me, and whispered the same words into the ears of those who eventually taught me.

Now, at the age of Giving Back, I can freely give what I have received, and watch the seeds grow in those who follow me. Thus is the Wisdom and Insight of the Ancients propogated.

If We're Talking About Gifts That Are Exchanged At Yuletide, Then I'd... Nov 27th. at 11:14:00 am EST

Marea (Niagara Falls, Ontario CA) Age: 30 - Email

If we're talking about gifts that are exchanged at Yuletide, then I'd have to say that the best gift I've ever received was a cheque for a thousand dollars. You see, my high school band was planning a European tour the year I turned 17 and I needed to come up with $1000 to go. My grandmother knew I was having trouble with the fundraising, and on Christmas morning there was that crisp white cheque stuffed into my stocking. That gift allowed me to go on a trip that really changed my vision of the world and I learned so very much! I'd have to say though, that when I think about the gifts I've received through the years they don't stand out as much as the warm and loving sentiments attached to them. The caring and love of family and friends (even if sometimes you want to scratch their eyes out!) is perhaps one of the greatest gifts of all - second to the sheer wild beauty of the planet we inhabit.

Just a little poetic waxing there..........

My Best Gift Ever Came Early On A Beautiful And Sunny February... Nov 27th. at 12:03:55 pm EST

Kristin (Alexandria, Virginia US) Age: 28 - Email

My best gift ever came early on a beautiful and sunny February morning in Chicago (and if you've ever been to Chicago in February, you know that's rare).
After a few terrifying months, then a few frightening hours, I saw the most beautiful hand, followed by the wisest set of eyes. She looked at me so serenely, noiselessly, deeply.
"Don't worry, Mom. We'll be just fine."

Green Sprite (Fort Lauderdale, Florida US) Age: 18

The best gifts I ever received were my best friend, love of my life, and earthly goddess Jen, my loving family, my life, health and wealth (not financial wealth, we do well enough but we're not rich, the wealth I speak of is a deeper wealth of the heart and spirit), and my initiation into the world of paganism, which began as a casual interest in improving my life through magick and developed into a lifelong spiritual quest.

Last Year My Dad Gave Me 5 Little Certificates He Had Made... Nov 27th. at 1:18:13 pm EST

Tasha (Mansfield, Texas US) Age: 20 - Email

Last year my dad gave me 5 little certificates he had made up for baby sitting my son, so that I could use them to get a break from him, to go out to clubs, on dates, etc. I still have one. That gift has helped me keep my sanity. And then, one year, my mom gave me a certificate for a day that ws just for the two of us, to do what ever we wanted. That was really cool; at the time, she was working a lot to make ends meet, and when I did see her, it was usually when she got home from her second shift job at 1 am. My sister one year gave everybody in the family hugs. In my family, we all know that the rest of us are broke. And we love giving what my dad calls energy exchange gifts. Most years we have little certificates for various things. I think the only person in the family who probably won't get one this year is my son; since he is only 2, he probably doesn't understand all this gift giving stuff yet.

However, I think the best gift I ever got from my family would be that when I was 10 or so, we all decided not to buy each other gifts that year. Instead, we adopted a family, and helped out the spirit of Santa. We bought the kids in the family lots of toys, and clothes, new winter jackets, gloves. We got the parent something to help her relax (I don't remember the stuff we got her to much). We cooked dinner, and baked cookies. We piled everything into the car, dragged it all up three flights of stairs, knocked on the door, and proceeded to run to a part of the stairwell where the person who answered couldn't see us. The lady broke into tears. That taught me what the Yuletide season is supposed to be about. And I think that is the greatest gift that anyone could ever give me.

The Best Gifts I Have Ever Recieved Are The People In My... Nov 28th. at 2:07:36 am EST

Morgaine (Toronto, Ontario CA) Age: 20

The best gifts I have ever recieved are the people in my life. The unconditional love from my wonderful, caring, selfless parents is a gift that I have had and maintained since birth. Two years after I came along, I was given the BIGGEST, most important gift which was my younger brother. His continuing love, friendship, and support is a gift every day and each morning and night I thank the Goddess and God for blessing me so greatly with his presence in my life. I am thankful for all of my friends, my roommate/friend who is as close as family, the love of my life, my co-workers, and all of the wonderful people in the pagan community who remind me of their support and friendship on an ongoing basis. The people who walk in and out of our lifes and those who remain are all valuable gifts and all bring with them important lessons.

I've Received Great Gifts Throughout The Years, But I Think The Ones... Nov 28th. at 1:37:18 pm EST

Bethy (Staten Island, New York US) Age: 33 - Email

I've received great gifts throughout the years, but I think the ones that impressed me the most were last year's Chirstmas gift from my parents, which I didn't get until Easter. They gave me a Llewelyn Witches Calendar, and I think that means they are more accepting of my spiritual choices.

The best gift I ever got from my now fiance was time. We were driving back from his family on christmas eve the first Christmas we were together as a couple. We had both worked that day, then driven to his dad's apartment for dinner, then to his aunt's house for the huge Italian Christmas eve seafood feast, which I had never encountered before. We didn't get out of there until past midnight, and at about 1:00 am we were still driving home. I started crying because I was so very exhausted, and the idea of getting up at 7 am to have breakfast with his mom was just the last straw. The gift of sleeping late that morning and having a leisurely breakfast together in my apartment was the greatest gift he could have given me that day.

That day I think I gave Chris, my fiance, something. I waited until the very end of the day, and made him open it last. It was a model of the Millenium Falcon, which he had wanted for his entire life. The look on his face when he opened up the present was just wonderful.

This year I hope to give him something that brings that light into his face, but the gift of being together really is the best one ever.

and I am creating holiday traditions--giving friends English christmas Crackers to pull!

I Just Wnat To Say, My Best Gift Had To Be When... Nov 28th. at 1:37:32 pm EST

Fox RavenFire (Kenosha, Wisconsin US) Age: 19

I just wnat to say, my best gift had to be when my Grandmother gave me my Grandfathers bathrobe. He had died several years earlier. I mean sure it was made of what I think to be wool, but anyways it was kinda itchy to wear. But the best part had to be when I found a napkin in the pocket. It was a note to my Grandma from my Grandpa saying that he loved her. I was so happy because I got to see my Grandmother smile when I gave it to her. That had to be one of the best Christmas/Yule gifts I have gotten.

The Holiday Season Of My Senior Year In High School, A Group... Nov 28th. at 2:19:35 pm EST

Brenna Fey D'Amaurot (NYC, New York US) Age: 22 - Email

The holiday season of my senior year in high school, a group of my closest friends got together and planned a surprise for me. I had always loved the heart and trimmings of Christmas, though I had been born into a Jewish family and was now a practicing pagan. My friends gathered at my house under the ruse that they wanted to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" with me (my first time), but one of my friends was very late. He called and, apologetically, asked me if I would come and pick him up because his parents had gone out and left him stranded at the house. Grumbling (he was always late) I left my friends at my house and went to pick up my stranded friend. Upon my return, the video was going downstairs and I ran to my room to toss my coat in the closet so I could go and watch the movie. But, as I neared my room, I saw a strange light coming from the doorway. There on my floor was a tiny Christmas tree, lit and decorated, with presents underneath. I fell to my knees and crawled closer, noticing the array of unique ornaments. As my tears began to fall, I heard the whispering of my friendly elves sneaking up behind me to see how I liked their present. I couldn't speak, but when they saw that I was crying, the whole mess of them jumped on me in a big group hug. As we sat opening presents, they explained that each of them had contributed an ornament that would represent them and secure them in my memory when I was away at college. It has been many years since that night, and I am only in close touch with a few of those friends, but I will never forget any of them. Or the best Christmas gift of my life.

The Best Gift That I Have Ever Recieved Is From My Love... Nov 28th. at 4:43:02 pm EST

Jayson Tegeder AKA Garic (Omaha, Nebraska US) Age: 26 - Email

The best gift that I have ever recieved is from my love. It started out as a Christmas present, then turned into a birthday present then turned into a mid summer present. She found this small notebook about the size of a note card. Each day she would find some poem saying or something meaningful to put into the notebook. After she had it almost all the way filled up she gave it to me. That is why it took so long for her to get it to me. One she never thought it was full enough and second we had some problems where we seperated for a while. When I got is every chance I got I went back to it so I could read every thing she put into it. I still go back to it every now and then. Just thinking of the amount of time that it took her to make that and get it to me lets me know just how much I mean to her and she wants me in her life. I don't know if I will ever recieve anything as special as that again in my life but hey anything is possible. She is always finding ways to suprise me and put a smile on my face.
