Question of the Week: 94 - 1/13/2003 Who Would Make Your Pagan/Heathen Who’s Who List? If you were compiling the Pagan/Heathen equivalent of the famous ‘Who’s Who’ list of influential people, which Pagan or Heathen names would make it on your list? Why did you choose these people? Which non-Pagans, but still people who are/were influential in some way to issues important to Pagans, should be on the list? What qualities or accomplishments did you consider to be the most important in making your choices? Finally, which people of your own acquaintance would make your private ‘most influential people in my life’ list? |

My HP and HPS (Angel and Dreamweaver) Shanem Falconfire, Bel'Mor and Hawk (My Elders) M.R. Sellars a personal friend and family member (I love ya brother) Patrick "A Really Nice Guy" Chambers. He shows what it means to give..and give..and give. My coven family And last but not least every Pagan, Witch, Wiccan, Asatru, etc that has come to KCPPD and made it the sucess that it is |

1. Robert Heinlein for making me see human nature outside religion. 2. Arthur C. Clarke for making me see what we *could* be, outside religion. 3. Scott Cunnighma for taking the fear of the word 'witch' out of me. 4. Stewart Fararr for, well, being dear Stewart. Gods I miss him. 5. Gavin Bone for his support of our own personal efforts for our pagan community 6. Don Waterhawk. Don spoke to me 10 years ago and changed my life. And he keeps doing it, dammit. 7. Lady Circe, for taking the hits we all don't have to take nowadays. 8. Lady Elspeth for her Virginia accent when she tells me about the goddess. 9. The infamous Shaggyman; my spiritual mentor and friend. 10. Shanem Falconfire, Elder and Friend, who has stood tall for Honor, respect, and hard work while others could not. Honorable Mentions 1 - Raven, brother in Honor and Faith. 2 - How could I know Alaric Terrason and not give mention? 3 - My own coven, who contain some of the first pagans in this area. 4nongoths of Why Wiccans Suck. Four years ago, I was Wiccan. I found two things. One was AncientSites, where I picked the character class of "Druid" because my knowledge of Wicca and Newage drek would help me. So I started looking online for information, and that is where I found WWS. It was a punch in the gut to me. I had written a few good articles in my time (like Path of the Magician) but most of my site at that point was other people's work. It woke me up, it showed me that while I was not quite as bad as some, I was a fluffbunny. Over the next few months, I worked hard on studying Druidism, and as a result of that, Wicca. I learned my own religion and what it actually was. A lot of things suddenly gelled in my head and I knew that a lot of what I knew was already there, but it was disjointed. So, I worked on orginizing all my knowledge and expanding what I knew and filling in gaps. I STILL use WWS as a primary resource for some things, mostly a way to guage my own fluffyness. 4nongoths is entirely responsible for Why Wiccans Suck and for Daven's Journal. Without that resource starting me and waking me up, my own site, Daven's Journal would not exist. |

I think the most important people were the first pagans. The druid that looked up into the sky and, for the first time, saw the face of Danu. The Greek, seeking out wisdom, who found Apollo. The first shaman to journey into the lower worlds. The first person to ever just stop, and listen, and feel the presence of something greater than they were. These are who makes my who's who list. Starhawk, Garderner, Crowley, Wren, they would not be the same if it wasn't for those who came before them. As Newton, who was both an astrologer and an alchemist, said "If I have seen so far, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants." |

Per say. There are a lot of wonderful people out there that are only known to a few doing the work that NEEDS to be done -- not for recognition or praise, but for simple love of their faith and an honest desire to see neopaganism move forward. It is these people, in any era or time, to whom we owe a debt of gratitude. These souls are our foundations, or ever-sure cornerstones - they hold us firm in the storms and build us up in the sunshine. Yes, there are many wonderful authors and artists who help educate the public about our beliefs, and I do not belittle their efforts. But IMO it's much tougher to be a "hero" when your efforts are unsung (and very frequently go without even so much as a thank you). So I thank those people who have been behind the lines supporting, nurturing, and motivating us to be our best. |
