Polytheist, Monotheist, Dualist or Other?
Are you a die-hard Polytheist who believes that the many Gods/Goddesses are distinct and individual entities? Are you a Pagan Monotheist? Pantheist? Do you believe that “All Gods/Goddesses are One God/Goddess”? Does the term ‘Lord and Lady’ represent a specific Lord and/or Lady to you or is it a term used most often to simply denote the concept of a male and/or a female deity? Do you think that all of these terms are interchangeable? Can you see where and when the need to define what YOU mean by ‘Gods/Goddesses’ might be necessary? What do you think about ‘Choose one from column A and one from Column B’ pantheon building?

I suppose I would have to say that I'm a Polytheist, since I believe in the existence of different Gods/Goddesses. Some of them definitely could be the same Being, but some couldn't. I think that maybe it's not too important to know what kind of a 'theist' you are, as long as you know what path you want to follow in life. I'm not sure it matters what God/Goddess name you call upon, as long as you know what powers you are invoking. Of course, calling on the God/Goddess of War would be a mistake if you needed the God/Goddess of Fertility's assistance. I would also like to say that I think the only time for me that it might become important for me to define this would be in explaining to my children why we worship the way we do. Other than that, I don't put much emphasis on how the rest of the world views my practices. As a Solitary, I have most often been in the minority when it came to 'religion' anyway. So, while I could be classified as a Polytheist, I have never really considered what kind of 'theist' I was until now.

Deep down, I'm a materialistic pantheist. I believe the deity and the universe are inseparable but for me the way I relate to the deity is through the Lord and the Lady. I believe that all the Gods and Goddesses are various aspects or images of the Lord and Lady. I know, I'm not original or maybe very articulate. The Tao that can be spoken is not the true Tao.

I have the thought that somewhere out there is a Spirit and I identify it as being a three different enities of the same spirit. These entities are my deities Woden, Gana and Gaia. Woden is like a father figure for me, he protects me in my path of life and gives me a sense of security. Gana is like an older sister and I talk to her when things bother me. Gaia is like my mother and compassionate and guides me through life.

There are many ways of looking at Deity. There is the one "Great Mystery", there is the piece of the "Great Mystery" we call "Athena", etc. They are all one, and yet seperate roles. There is also what we think we know and believe about Diety, and then there is what realy is.

I believe in a Deity that is not truly identified by any one name or type or sex. But because we, as sexual beings seem to need to have our sexuality and other aspects of Self reflected back to us, we name aspects of the Deity as such. We have no word for this all-inclusive, creative/destructive, amale/female EXISTENCE. A feminist theologist coined the word 'God/ess' several years ago. It is unpronouncable and not meant to be used in worship. It's like something to hold a space in non-space until we come up with a better name. We are in a dualistic world that insists that this world is 'apart' from God/ess. This is the first division. In Western Culture, the next division is male/female and good and evil all in the same instant. I don't think there should be a name for this Ultimate Deity - God/ess. That's okay. I very much prefer that names and identities of aspects of God/ess, especially of the first order, though they may be identified as male or female, have attributes that are both masculine and feminine, destructive and creative. I want to hear their stories in pairs, side by side, even though doing so presents a paradox. It is the space between the pairs that is God/ess.

That's right... i'm a Deist. Not a monotheist, not a polytheist, not an agnostic or atheist... Paganism and the majority of 'deism are looked upon as you are *this* or you are *that*. personally i believe in pantheonism, lord and lady, AND all being part of the whole Deity... but I guess that's the eclectic in me coming to the front. There's nothing wrong in believing/thinking the same thing... some cultural god/desses will hold more sway, while the belief of male AND female will hold sway, while the ideology that we all form the same whole and therefore the dieties of choice should be part of that whole.... that's Deism.

Honestly? Having spent many years as a Jehovah's Witness, I can't comprehend more than ONE deity. I believe, however, that this one deity embodies all personifications, male, female, dark, light, etc. Just like we as humans (made in deity's image) embodiy many (if not all) of these qualities to an extent. ~BB!

I guess I'd have to say that I'm a dualist, since I believe in the balance of all things.. But I think that Deity is so big that we each have to separate it out into the sections that we can understand and be comfortable with. If you need to have a pantheon, then the way you make your choices is a function of your own experience and comfort with your vision. In many ways, I think that's what sets us apart from the "big three". We allow ourselves the CHOICE, and don't necessarily follow someone else's doctrine. There seem to be as many different paths as there are pagans to explore them!

It is really ashame that the Philosopher Benedict Spinoza, is considered a Christian Philosopher. His Theory concerning what the universe is made of is wonderful. In a nutshell: Monads are the stuff of which all things are made. God is all Monads. Therefore, all things are God. I degress away from his understand of intelligence and purpose, but not by much. I just expand from where stuff comes from and accept catagories of things into the concept of "Things" that are a bit unusal. Like Intelligence is a things, and consciousness is a thing. I will stop here, with this circular thought. We have what we have, like body and conscious, because God has these things and God has these things because we have them. Thus we are God. All is God.

I don't know really where I lie in this aspect. I believe in one Divine, that has many aspects, and use the names of gods or goddesses that represent those aspects as I need or give thanks for. So I kind of feel that I am either all of the above or none of them. Can anyone help me out here?

I am a firm believer in a universal being a sort of primal force that everything is made of.
I believe that the lord and lady are expression of this energy and that deity with names exist is because people give them names to get closer to them.
