Question of the Week: 21 - 12/26/2000

What is/was your New Year's resolution?

Did you make a New Year's resolution? Have you made one before that you really kept? How about the one that you didn't? What about your cats? Did they promise to "not hack up furballs into your new suede boots" this year? Do you have some funny resolution jokes? What resolutions would you like to see OTHER people make? And if the Pagan community could get together (Yeah, Right.) to make one New Year's resolution, what do you think it might be?

| I Have Never Made New Years Resolutions Before But This Year I... | Dec 28th. at 1:04:36 pm EST |

| Aisling (Toronto, Ontario CA) | Age: 12 - Email |

I have never made New Years Resolutions before but this year I decided to give it a try. This all started when I started getting letters from a stranger, and I politely asked them to go away because they had the wrong email. They didnt get it or something because I kept on getting letters. The thing is, the person was really mean to other people. But she described it as if it was completely normal. She didnt realise that she was damaging the people around her.And that was a wakeup call to me , because the more I thought about her situation, I thought about mine.I am sort of like her, except i dont hurt people physically. Now I know that whatever I do comes back to me 3fold, but I have only recently discovered this path, and it will take a while for me to change and be a better person, I cant just try and do everything right immediately without giving myself time to adjust. So my New Years Resolution think more about my actions and what effect they might have on others before actually doing or saying anything. As for other people, I wish the same, because if everyone thought more about their actions maybe it would be a better world. And the Pagan Community, I have no idea.If they could get together...

| You Can't Please Everyone, You've Just Got To Please Yourself. While I... | Dec 28th. at 11:24:01 am EST |

| Arielle (Seattle, Washington US) | Age: 42 - Email |

You can't please everyone, you've just got to please yourself. While I made my resolution earlier, it still is being applied. I promised myself I would do the things I want to do, acheive the things I want to acheive, and not feel guilty because I have to say no to someone or something. I have one friend in particular - a good friend - but she doesn't seem to have any hobbies or interests. This makes it tough on her when I say no I can't play because I am doing repairs to my house, or want space to myself, or want to celebrate a pagan holiday. She, and other friends, don't seem to understand I have a life beyond work and children. If my children can understand, so should the rest of the world! I have resolved not to feel guilty because I am doing something for me, when others have other plans.

| This Is The One I Renew Every Year: May I Do What... | Dec 27th. at 8:20:49 pm EST |

| Fiona (Madison, Wisconsin US) | Age: 60 - Email |

This is the one I renew every year:
May I do what comes to me to do as best I may, with good humor and willingness; may I mind my own business and not interfere in the business of others; may I avoid being depressed by the things I cannot mend; and may I wish the same resolution upon every person in the world.

| I Used To Make New Years Resolutions, But Had Trouble Keeping Them... | Dec 27th. at 4:43:33 pm EST |

| herbwitch (Salem, Massachusetts US) | Age: 24 - Email |

i used to make new years resolutions, but had trouble keeping them.
the past few years, i make new year's affirmations instead. i make sure to word them in the present tense, and i put them up somewhere i can read them and repeat them every day. this helps me remember to strive to uphold them.
for me this year's big one is "i am healthy and strong".
as for the community to get together to make one resolution, how about: "we are open-minded, kind and teach through our example"
happy new year! :)

| Greetings All & Merry Meet... I Made My Resolution During Samhain. Coming Out... | Dec 27th. at 1:54:07 pm EST |

| Teresa Hendrickson (Gerrardstown, West Virginia US) | Age: 37 - Email |

Greetings all & Merry Meet... I made my resolution during Samhain. Coming out of the broom closet has been difficult at times for all concerned. I have vowed to be more understanding of the views expressed by others concerning my choice of spiritual paths and of their spiritual paths.
If there was ONE resolution for the world wide Pagan community that I would like to see happen it would be to be tolerance of the views of others, be they Pagan or not. I know this will never come to be as humans are volatile creatures...but the wish remains.
Blessings and peace to all... Blue Rain Lady

| Time During My Solstice Ritual Contemplating The General Path I Would Like... | Dec 26th. at 12:11:53 am EST |

| Nelli (Carmel Valley, California US) | Age: 24 - Email |

time during my solstice ritual contemplating the general path I would like my life to take this year; but I am also sticking with secular convention, and have come up with a resolution for 2001. For years, almost as long as I can remember making resolutions, mine have had something to do with losing weight - what can I say, I'm a perfect product of the american media. So this year, even though I am not noticeably thinner thatn I was last year at this time, I have decided to go in a different, and hopefully deeper direction this time: my resolution for the coming year is to develop a healthy sense of humor; to be able to take myself, and life, at least somewhat lightly.
Cats, of course, do not need to make resolutions, because they are intrinsically perfect already, and even if they weren't, they wouldn't much care.
If the pagan community could get together to make one resolution, I think it would be nice for us to resolve to think, act and speak with compassion for all beings. Many of us are working on that already, I know, but it would be nice to all come together and put a good punch behind it. Blessed be, happy Solstice, happy Hanukkah, merry Christmas, happy Kwaanza, and of course happy Hogmanay! Oh, and happy new year
