Question of the Week: 98 - 2/10/2003

Would You Live In A Haunted House?

You have found the perfect house. But it’s haunted. Doors open and close. Lights flip on and off. Footsteps are heard in the hallway, furniture is rearranged and ghostly figures are spotted wandering the grounds.
Would you move in?
Would you be comfortable living with ghosts and/or paranormal activities? Or would you send the spirits an eviction notice?
What are your thoughts on paranormal manifestations?

Not that the thought of ghosts make me think of evil things sucking out my brain or anything, but I just watch too many movies. I'd be way too scared and I'd start thinking of why the ghost or spirt was there in the first place. Like I said, I watch too many horror movies.

i would live in a haunted house as long as the ghosts are not evil ghosts that try to harm people.

I see no problem living in a haunted house, as a matter of fact i already live in a house that has two spirits in it. What i like about it is the fact that you can comunicate with these spirits and yes they can help you or so they have helped me, and i encourage anyone who finds a haunted house that they wish to live in, go ahead and buy it if its for sale and live there.

| In Some Houses :) | Feb 13th. at 4:55:38 pm EST |

We have a house on some old family property here in California. The house is very old for California, having been built in the 1860s. Anyway, there is a spirit who resides there, and I would definately not have a problem moving in with her. She is the sweetest! Over the years, a few families have moved into the house as caretakers for the ranch. This spirit (Her name is Molly) often sits on the beds of any children in the house, and sings to them. If men living in the house show any anger or aggression towards any women or children in the house, Molly gets angry, and things start falling off the walls. Also, there was an incident where 2 of my playmates (when I was little) had been somewhat naughty, and their mother became angry. Molly held the door to their bedroom closed so that the mother could not get in until she calmed down. Molly particularly enjoys protecting the adult female occupants of the house, it seems, and loves to tend to the children. I think it is possible she was killed in the house when she was a mother with small children, and remained to protect them. I would have to say that spirits seem to be like roommates.. some you can co-habitate with, and some just aren't any fun at all.

First, I would do divination and contact the spirits, to see why they were there. If they were trapped, I would assist them across. If they were friendly house spirits who were just there for the heck of it, I'd move in and let them stay. If they were unfriendly or harmful and I could not manage to remove them, or SHOULD NOT for karmic reasons on the part of the spirit, then I would find a different home!

| Come All Ye Spirits | Feb 13th. at 4:27:55 pm EST |

I have always invited all things to my house hold be it good, bad or even...well you know. I'm just that way I guess. I have had my run in with all kind of them. Some have come to harm. Others to to releve their pain. And, others have come to just see what was there. Just like other people. You don't kill or banish people. They have there right to be there as well. But, answer the question though: Yes I would live in such a house.

| Haunted Houses? Nothing New To Me! | Feb 13th. at 1:29:45 pm EST |

Would I live in a haunted house? Well, I have. And so far, the spirits and I got along very well.Except for one house. years ago when I was 11 yrs old. My family moved into this house in the hills of W.Va.It was a beautifull home, But!..it was haunted by attleast 3 spirits. And the one spirit was very dark and very frighting! Not only would it move things around, but also scream at you.And it would show itself more to my baby sister than any of us, and frighten her. The other 2 spirits was a man and a woman. I have seen her quite a few times. The man, would only show himself to my Mother. We never knew why the (I"ll Say) 3rd spirit was so angery, but after living there for 8yrs, it finally stopped. But the 2 others, stayed on. We did get use to them. They rarely shown thierselves, but you could still hear them at times. Talking to each other. Or moving things about. We came to belive that they were an old couple. I was only thankfull that the angery spirit left! That was the only time I delt with a dark spirit.Thank Goddess! So, would I live in a haunted house again? Yes, as long as it was a good spirit. I have to remember, they were there first. I have had to tell a spirit to quiten down. But I've also have had a spirit to help me out. Finnding things for me.But the most recent one was a year ago. And I will forever Thank this spirit! She, I feel it was a she, really frightened my violent ex-husband away!! Some times I wish she'd come back! And my ex, hasn't bothered me since! I call her Anna, So Anna, where ever you are, Thank you!

The question is, would I live in a haunted house? Well, the house I live in does have a "presence", but I wouldn't catagorize it as being "haunted". A few yrs. ago, my husband and I bought a small cottage-like house with a stone fireplace and old fashioned hardwood floors. We were told the house is over 100 yrs. old. The house had such an enchanting feeling about it when we first looked at it, I knew this was our "dream home". We move in with our two cats who have been with us for about 12 yrs. About two wks. after we moved in, is when I began seeing "shadows". The first time I had the experience, I was working on my computer. I caught a glimpse of a cat entering the room out of the corner of my eye. But when I looked down, expecting to see one of our cats sitting beside my chair (as they sometimes do) , I saw nothing. I found our two cats snoozing peacefully on our bed in the next room. I knew I had seen "something", and I wasn't imagining it. I wasn't frightened by the experience, it only peaked my curiosity. There were a few other times when I saw the "shadow" of a cat moving across the livingroom floor, and entering the kitchen when I've been cooking. I don't know if the "presence" is of a cat that had previously lived in the home, or if it could be the "spirit" of a cat I had loved and lost several yrs. ago. I would love to think it is my beloved "Capone", coming back to visit and letting me know he is still with me. He was such a big part of my life, and a devoted friend. I am hoping to find a way to extend the visits of my "shadow", so that I may understand why it is here, and let it know it is welcome to share our home with us. I feel my experiences have been positive in nature, and do not fear them. I don't know what I would do if the "presence" was negative or scarey. Whether or not my "shadow" is of a cat that once lived here, or if it is indeed my friend from the past, I feel blessed to have been able to connect with them.

I've lived in a haunted house since I was four and my college dorms and one old apartment of mine was haunted. I'm not sure I'd know what to do with myself if I lived in a non-haunted place for a long period of time! I grew up hearing things that go bump in the night, so it doesn't bother me much. We've been known to ask the spirits to "be quiet" or "could you do that later, please?" I don't think I would "evict" the spirits but I would ask for cooperation if we were both going to exist together happily. I think hauntings are events imprinted on a certain location for some reason and should not be feared.

| I've Always Lived In Houses Which Have Been Haunted. | Feb 13th. at 12:49:29 am EST |

| Sarah Honest Trublood (Iowa) | Age: 38 - Email |

My best friend when I was 9 was a ghost who still follows me wherever I move to. About a month ago, he asked me to look for his burial records at the library, and so I did, knowing he would bother me forever if I did not. I was shocked and almost started to weep, for in those records were copies of his birth and death certificates. We each were born on the same day, the 20th, and month, Feruary. He had me do this so I would no longer have an excuse to be sad and lonely ever again on my birthday. He had always been there helping me blow out the candles, for it was his day of birth as well. I would be disappointed if my next home was not haunted. Blessed Be Sarah
