Question of the Week: 59 - 9/11/2001 911 America: Talking Through The Terror... Talking Through The Terror... And helping each other cope with the tragedies that struck at the very heart of the United States. The Witches Voice has opened up this forum in order that Pagans may express their thoughts on the terrorist attacks that took place in NYC and DC on September 11th. As the full realization of what happened and the toll numbers begin to come in, Americans have many challenges ahead. What are your thoughts on these incidents? How are you feeling? Feel free to post any magickal workings or other support gatherings planned in your area. Below is the time for a worldwide ritual time. I'm reposting this so it doesn't get lost. The "today" refers to Wed., Sept. 12. Thanks, Magpie. *YOU HAVE BLANKET PERMISSION TO FORWARD THIS MESSAGE SWIFTLY AND WIDELY* People, In addition to everyone's private efforts occuring throughout the day, I am calling for a major coordination of an Act of Magick on behalf of this crisis to take place TONIGHT at Midnight, U.S. Eastern (New York/Washington D.C.)Time, 11p.m. Central time, 10p.m. Mountain Time, 9p.m. Pacific time and 5a.m in Great Britain and Western Europe. All who can please gather in your temples, living rooms, sacred groves and by your nearest power spot to send energy to this situation. If your heart directs you to, please CONTINUE this Act of Magick for Nine Nights - I feel strongly that our country's leadership will direct the country towards wholesale warfare; this Act of Magick will be both healing and prophylactic. The goals as I see it that we should focus on as a bare minimum should be: * Safety and Healing, both for individuals and our piece of Gaia - and Herself as a whole * Reinforcement of our personal and national shields * A STRONG thread of Peace and Calming directed within our own borders as well as towards the Attackers * A prayer for clarity and equanimity to prevail * A STRONG thread directed to our country's leaders NOT to consider War as an option and good vibes sent to our people in the military However your customs, traditions and spirit tell you to combine any or all of these issues (or others you may come up with) and proceed, please do so. The important thing is that we coordinate our energies at the same time and keep the wave going as long as we can - Nine Days is the ancient prescription for such crises. 4) Finally, I would ask those who are into Magickal Workings of any kind NOT TO do any rituals for vengance or attack or any kind of retribution. Our own government will find the perpetrators and take care of them. The sidebar by Isaac is correct, we need to focus our attention on helping those who were the victims FIRST, then on protecting those who will be going into harm's way on this matter. We do NOT need to precipitate any violent action on this issue, not even bringing home the consequences to those who are responsible. There will be time enough for that later. Focus your energies first on HEALING, second on PROTECTION and lastly on vengance. |

I am overwhelmed, terrified, horrified...and, I admit, even ashamed. I have always considered myself a pacifist but yesterday I found myself caught up in anger and the hatred that so easily spreads from pain and fear. I found myself asking for vengance. I was shocked the violence living in my own heart just as I was shocked at the violence directed at our nation. I don't know what the solution is, but the prospect of War looms like the blackest of storms. I hope we can find another way, but if we cannot, I hope justice is tempered with mercy and compassion. We need to use this passion and anger constructively to honor these deaths rather than simply avenge them. This tragedy should become a rally to heal the world and end the oppression and suffering caused by fundamentalism. Everyone, please visit www.rawa.org to learn about the atrocities the Taliban has inflicted on so many in Afghanistan, especially women. They are without dispute the Nazis of this era, and they should not be allowed to continue their reign of horror. My deepest and greenest love goes out to those who have passed on, and to their loved ones, and to those who are struggling to heal and recover. I have white candles burning for you on the windowsill. Americans are strong and passionate and determined...we can make it through anything when we are united. |

This is to all those who have responded to 'she who laughs', this is not to those who laugh at all, but, to those who, believe, there is only one God, only oone, to save us, this is the one... we must reply to, for answers...to guide us, and our president... whether or not we like him... in many cases, this is not our choice. I choose my words carefully, because, I wish, to reach many. It is not to please, but, to inspire, Love, and Love only, is what Christ said, that we should feel towqards one another... this is MY belief... and so should yours... to allow him to take HIS vengence, only, with us turning it over to him... we will not allow our vengeful feelings to surcome us. Only, then, will Our President be allowed to administer the affects of justice upon those unknown... does he know them???? |

Members of New Moon NY, The Shadowfolk Coven and Teaching Collective, Temple of Ara and other magickal folks are calling the NYC area Pagans to come together in this time of crisis as a spiritual community. We are organizing an ecumenical Pagan service for 6:30pm on Thursday at the Frisbee Hill Site in Central Park. We invite you to bring flowers, candles in glass, photos and other items for a permanent memorial altar. In addition to providing safe space for meditation and grounding, we will work to raise a protective cone of power over NYC. Frisbee Hill can be reached via the West 72nd Street entrance to Central Park. Walk thru Strawberry Fields and bear to the right. I have never seen as many butterflies as I have yesterday and today.... so so beautiful to contrast such a horrible thing. Today is a beautiful day. It's sunny, the sky is blue, the grass is green, the trees are leafy. If life were a piece of literature, it would be miserably cloudy today. But this is real life. And it's physically beautiful. It's strange how such a horrible event happens, and nature doesn't care. The Earth is still turning, the stars are still shining, the wind is still blowing, and WE are still breathing. WE still have this day. |

The following is a copy of an email that I sent directly to someone on Witchvox who was struggling with hatred and a desire for vengeance: I was touched by your post on Witchvox - your struggle to overcome your anger is very courageous. I have to say that I don't feel any anger or hate towards the people who did this, only a profound sadness and the hope that they can be stopped without any further loss of life. I can't give you a magic formula for not hating - it might be my nature, or the ten years in age I have on you. But try to imagine that since you were a child, you were raised among people whose country was stolen from them; that you were brought up in an environment of constant violence, poverty, hatred, and anger. Maybe there wasn't enough love from your parents to mitigate this. And then, perhaps in an effort to find family, you came under the influence of a man, a fanatic, who showed you caring for the first time, and gave you a target for the hatred you felt. And, lost soul that you were, he indoctrinated you, encultured you, brainwashed you into believing that there was a legitimate target for all your hurt. That the woes of your country were all caused by a nation that had helped steal your people's land, and had provided weapons and money for killing your neighbors, and that the people of this nation *did not care*. Perhaps you can't love them, or even understand their circumstances fully, but you may be able to pity them, because they have been robbed of their humanity, and their ability to forgive. I'm sort fo sick at the moment (I just got over a fever of 102 degrees), so I might not be terribly coherent. But I'd just like to state that the prayers of myself and my circle are going out to all who were killed, injured, and emotionally torn apart by this. And to those who have been bravely assisting in disaster relief, in whatever way they can. But why, when it's "them" killing "us", it's a terrible tragedy (which it is--don't get me wrong); when "we" do it to "them", it's a tactical advance? Justice needs to be served here, but it would be wise of us to keep our heads about us. War as definitely a last resort. I'm Catholi-Pagan, and so both the Rede and some of Christ, who said some good things concerning this sort of subject, are running through my mind. It is my fervent prayer that both sides will be able to come together and end this as nonviolently as possible. Understanding from the Goddess and God guide us all, no matter our creed. I am still in complete shock. I cannot believe that something as horrific as this could happen in the country I have lived in and loved since birth. I awoke yesterday morning with a heavy heart because of my own problems and ended the day with an even heavier heart because of the tragedies in NYC and DC, my own problems disregarded. It put everything in perspective for me, my problems aren't really problems...They are petty compared to the complex difficulties that the families and friends in NYC and DC are having now. I mourn the losses that all of the victims families and I believe that there is no one in the US, if not the world, who isn't affect by this in some way. To my generation: Our parents and grandparents remember exactly where they were when JFK was shot, we will always remember where we were when these cowardly actions were played out. Let us all keep both the victims and the survivors in our hearts until this huge wound has healed. BB |

Namaste, my sisters and brothers: I am grieving for this horrible situation. Believe me. I feel so much pain inside me that it makes me numb, and i dont understand how this things can still happen. So many innocent people died yesterday... the Earth is grieving too for Her children. I felt the force of thousands of people screaming inside my head. It doesnt matter if those people were American or white or black, doesnt matter their age, religion or way of life... the bottom line is that they were human beings, just like you and me, souls just like you and me. But as much as it hurts me this GREAT injustice, I KNOW that if United States reacts in anger and violence, it will only generate more and more violence, and more innocent people will die, and bigotry and hate will only grow and more human beings, animals, and plants will die. Our Mother will suffer. And we cannot let this happen, you cannot let hatred poison your beautiful hearts. VIOLENCE IS NEVER THE WAY. If you react with violence, if you want an eye for an eye, then you are no better that the people who commited this horrible act of evil. If USA goes to war, be assured that more innocent people will die, and they will have to suffer the unspeakable horrors of a war that will destroy our planet, our home... not only will people far away from you will have died but the ones you love will suffer too. Think of your family, think of your children, do you want them to grow in a world like this? Only USA has the power to decide if they want a war of that magnitude, or if they want justice and rational, civilized punishment for terrorism worldwide without having to end with millions of innocent lives. USA has now the choice to prove all those thing it speaks of: freedom, democracy, peace, brotherhood. I just hope that all the people who are suffering right now for this tragedy will find comfort in their hearts. I hope that all those people who want revenge will find peace in their souls and clarity in their thoughts. I hope that all the innocent people who died because of this tragedy will find their way to the other side and be free and happy and in peace in the Land of Eternal Youth. I hope that this stops here, i hope there wont be another war, i hope everyone can understand now that hatred only leads to violence and suffering and that the only way to freedom and happines is love and understanding. I hope that you, your family and your friends will find comfort and peace in your hearts. I hope you all are filled with love and compassion. May the Goddess and the God fill us with their love and stops us from destroying ourselves. September 11, 2001 -- The nation is rocked by terrorism-- the Twin World Towers in Manhattan are destroyed by colliding hijacked airliners. The Pentagon - a symbol of our nations military- struck by a hijacked airliner. A great loss of life and innocence this day. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This day has set forth a dark deep stain upon the hearts of Americans. The nation is facing many dark hours ahead.... the anguish is echoed in the wails of sirens, hearts and souls across the nation. As scenes of destruction feel our eyes and our minds, a tremendous heaviness has settled across the nation. To sullenly strike forth and bring outstanding fear was the goal... and it has succeeded. The Nation is rampant with question and answers are minimal. Emotions are intense.... that too is the fear echoing forth from this great tragedy. Fear has struck us in the most secure places-- our homes. Our innocence stolen from us.... by horrible images of lost lifes, dreams, and beliefs. Fear is consuming the nation and that needs to be battled in the home, the school, the office, everywhere. Our best counter action is to not let our fear grip us... to let the world know we unite... that we will not allow this to shake our beliefs in our country and what is has stood for all these centuries. To denounce this fear is essential to prevent the terrorist from ultimately winning, succeeding, and triumphantly gloating that they have shaken the very foundation this country was built on. A united front is necessary-- for preservation, for perseverance, for the sake of America. Speak of this day for it will shadow our history forever. Lives have been changed as drastically as the New York skyline has been. We will never be the same, nor should we. We must take this time to grow, to change, to climb to height that will make us stronger. Remember the goal is to strike fear into our hearts... and that cannot be allowed. We can not be driven into our homes and be reclusive. We cannot not hide from this national tragedy. We must rally together... support each other, and accept this tragedy. This scar will run deep upon the hearts and souls of Americans but we must not prevent it from healing. Accept the tragedy, accept the anger but do not accept the fear. Stand up America, we cannot go silently into the dark. We cannot go silently into the future. We cannot silently let this slip into the past. We are a nation forever changed and we must accept that. It is our obligation to strengthen in such shadows of horror. It is our obligation to arise and be heard that we will not go silently into fear, that this will not still our hearts, passion, or dreams and that we grow stronger. * * * * * * * * * * * * * I was fortunate... my friends on the NYPD and FDNY are all well... but deeply scarred as is our nation. Accept your anger, but do not let it control you. May the Gods protect the rescuers, volunteers, families, and friends who are deeply touched by this tragedy. May the Gods guide all who need them. I sit here reading the posts... many of reason, many others of revenge. I grieve for the useless loss of life... innocent people who had done no wrong, and my heart goes out to the families left behind. I cannot help but think, though, that the Americans calling for revenge need to take a step back and look at the whole picture. I have heard the question many times today... 'how could someone hate us so much that they would do this horrible thing?'. Look to government military actions throughout the Middle East for the answer. The violence has not stopped in their countries... as you feel now, so must they have felt for a very long time. To them, this is *their* revenge, and as someone wisely pointed out, violence breeds and feeds violence. We need to stop. We need not to take revenge but to answer the question 'how could someone hate us so much?' and to force the government to stop giving other countries reason to hate us so much. If retaliation takes place, then peace will elude us, and the world needs peace so badly. We need to stop the loss of life, not just in the US, but around the world. Blessings |

Like many people, Pagan and non, I am sickened and saddened by the cowardly actions of September 11th, 2001. I would like to point out to some of my Pagan brethren, that life does occasionally cause harm. And that the threefold law does say that every action will come back threefold. Sometimes one has to act as an agent of Karma in order to make sure Karma is enacted - which means taking responsibility for that action, and making sure you have a damm good reason for it when you come to Mom at the end of your days. Asking that those who have done this act be punished for their actions is just and right. Working magic so that their evil be thrown back into their faces is a proper and ethical working, as long as you accept the responsibility for your working - and make sure it harms as little innocent lives as possible. And remember that the people who have done this act, if they are the suspects people think they are, have violated the words of their Prophet and their own belief, and are therefore oathbroken and outcast from their belief and God. And anyone of Celtic belief or heritage can tell you how accursed an oathbreaker is. For those left behind, prayers and support and healing is offered and given. For those who have been taken off the wheel by this coward's act, may the Lady and Lord recieve you and comfort you and yours. For you, there shall be a returning. For those healers, paramedics, EMT's, nurses and doctors labouring to save those from death's door, may you and yours thrive and grow, and know that you shall be rewarded in the Lady and Lord's eyes. For those rescuers working to recover those still alive, also know that you shall be rewarded for your actions. For those police and military working to defend this land and it's people, and for those in other free nations doing the same for their people, may you and yours be protected and honoured in your duty. For those giving time, blood, money, resources, know that your sacrifice shall be honored and rewarded. As you give, so shall you recieve threefold. And for all of us, let's work to cast this evil back past all of our borders, and confine that evil to those who worked it. As the Witches in the UK cast Hitler's evil back at him, let us cast this evil back upon those who created such evil. And for those dishonourable cowards who attack and destory innocent lives, who disobey their own Prophet and God, who do not have the courage to face a foe honourable. For those who slink in the shadows like the jackal, who are an infection in the body of humanity, may they be accursed and forgotten. May their actions reap a just and fair award. May the Morrigan rend their actions and words in raven's claws, and may Ma'at cast them down as evil and darkness. May their names be nothing more than a hiss and slur, a foul and bitter taste upon the tonuge. May their acts of murder and terrior reap a fitting an appropriate justice upon them - and may that justice comfort those they killed, and those they harmed. As I ask and as I work As I pray and as I will, so mote it be. |
