Question of the Week: 110 - 5/14/2003

What’s Your Favorite Element?

Do have a special affinity for one of the elements of Earth, Air, Water or Fire? Do you find one of these easier to work with than the others? Do ritual objects or other items associated with this element just seem to find their way to you?
On the flip side, do any of these elements – or what they represent – give you trouble? (For example: If you are drawn to the Fire principle, do you struggle with the emotional or spiritual aspects related to Water?) How do you balance out the elements within yourself? If you are ‘missing’ an element (or more than one) in your astrological chart (few or no Air, Water, Earth or Fire signs), do you consciously make an effort to enhance or strengthen the influence of that missing element(s) in some way?
What symbols, tools, animals, compass direction, emotions or spiritual guidance do you associate with the elements of Earth, Air, Water and Fire? And what does Spirit represent or mean to you?

I'm fairly strong in all the elements, which is odd, as I'm a Gemini. You'd think a Libra would be more inclined to balance like that... Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that I'm strongest with Fire, in both the good and the bad aspects. I often find myself getting burned-literally and figuratively! I also have an affinity for Air-although the breeze seems to have its own ideas of what it wants to do. No wonder my favorite day is a windy, sunny one! Of course, the Air/Fire nature of my being makes me highly volatile, and has a tendency to make me "flare up" in tense situations.
I tend to associate yellow, flutes and whistles, and feathers of any kind with Air; red, and candles for Fire; green and brown, salt, and greenery for Earth; blue, cups of any type, and shells for water.
I've also noticed that the elements will *not* listen to me; I can beg and plead, but they won't do what I ask unless they feel like it. Perhaps they're testing me...? :D

Every part of my being......and birth sign......is entrenched in the Earth sign. I might as well be known as a 'Mud Witch". That said, however, my preference in circle is to be in the South quarter. I love the passion of the fire, in all it's aspects. It is the one time where I can step outside of my birth path and truly experience another realm.

Fire. I can't help it really. I'm an Aries, so fire is my natural element. The color red makes me look older and more mature, and for some reason I'm addicted to candles and anthing else that burns effectivly. I'm NOT a phyromaniac okay! I just like to watch the fire lick against the melting wax of a freshly made candle as it dances too and fro in the wind. Fire does have a life all it's own, made to be admired and RESPECTED! Never leave a candle burning on it's own!! *looks at large burn mark in expensive carpet.

I think I got the runt of the deal. ^_^ I seem more connected to water (due to emotions, mood swings, and my love for water and rain itself) yet at the same time I have many fire aspects, but from what I can see just the bad ones, lol. I'm ill tempered (very) but at the same time I can be passive. Neither of them happen at the right times. I'll be passive when I should stand up for myself and get angry when I'm really only overreacting. I thought water and fire were opposites, so how do I have such strong traits between the two? As much as I love earth, I believe I don't have any as I can never anchor myself to anything. I always have to have a change - something which can lead to heartache. Oddly enough however, my favorite animal and spirit friend is the wolf, and I enjoy the North. Even though I am as free as the wind in spirit, I don't believe I have much air either or I would have more wisdom in controlling my emotions and temper. *sigh*

My element will always be fire, It just burns inside me and it hold me so close to the warmth I never want to let go. It feels in me so secure and so close I never wanted it to be anything else (even though I complain about the heat at sometimes :P) But it never burns out or fades away. It will always be eternal it will always be warmth, it will always light our dark, and keep us from the cold. I honor it as I do the sun.

| Air...... And Balance | May 15th. at 8:59:10 pm EDT |

I have always been strongest with Air. I learned as a young child I could call up a breeze and stir the air. I love to be outside as a storm is beginning and become one with the wind. My mother taught me that I had to balance myself. I live near the ocean and in the middle of the swamp so Water and Earth are strong within me. Fire is the hardest for me so I spend time focusing upon it. Finding a balance is important.

| Air | May 15th. at 6:36:28 pm EDT |

Air has always been the easiest element for me to work with. I can remember "calling the winds" at about 7 or 8 years of age and have always been able to pick info "out of the air". School was easy and can often find out deep secrets when I'm not trying. Lol, working with air is like continually being zinged with little arrows of information, but it is useful and enjoyable (at least for me) .
I don't think your birth sign necessarily defines which is your best working element because I'm Cancer with a Capricorn moon. Further, I have 8 fire sign placements, including Ascendant and MC; most of the aforementioned planets and my ascendant form a 1st house stellium in fire. No planets occupy either air signs or houses. But there are other factors (in my chart a Mercury/Uranus/Venus/Mars/Ascendant conjunction) that seem to help define elemental attractions. I do think the conjunction of all 3 air rulers plays a strong part.

| Elements Four, How Stands The Score? | May 15th. at 3:19:49 pm EDT |

| Ivycat (AZ) | Age: 18 - Email |

My strongest elemental influence would have to be Earth - I'm a Capricorn Earth is displayed in my strength, my absolute stubborness, and my good practical sense. I often seek peace in the forest, my place of power. The spirits of the trees and stones call to me, and I tend to prefer the Earth Mother and Grandmother Goddesses. Water is my secondary Element, and it is shown in my strong empathy and psi-gifts. I find that I have the most difficulty with Air and Fire. Being so seemingly insubstancial, it's hard for me to understand them. I am, however, currently working to balance the four Elements in my life.

I am certainly drawn to fire, ever since i was a small girl i have been drawn to it. Now i am a firefighter. I get to play with fire for a living. I love the battle, the dance that i get to do with fire. Trust me, it is alive. It is soothing and calming at one instant and angry and scalding the next. It's fire that I long for!
