Question of the Week: 15 - 11/13/2000

What are YOU Thankful For?

As we get together with family and friends at this time of the year (and at every time of the year), which people do you want to thank for making a meaningful difference in your life? (Why not surprise someone and thank him/her/them publicly right now and right here?) What lessons that came your way turned out to be blessings in disguise? How do you demonstrate your gratitude to the Earth and/or to your Gods/Ancestors for their continuing guidance and blessings?

| I'm Thankful For Gaia, Our Great Mother Earth Whom Is The Source... | Nov 21st. at 4:18:48 pm EST |

| Eli (Fort Lauderdale, Florida US) | Age: 18 |

I'm thankful for Gaia, our great mother earth whom is the source of all life on this world. I'm thankful for Llew, the great sun, impersonal father of earthly life, whom nourishes all children who seek the light of life and love, and whom sickens those that fear his living glory, the vampires and demons of this world. I'm thankful for the heavenly sister Luna, whom stabilizes Gaia's environment, regulates her menstruations (the tides), and is the bringer of light when Llew rests under the horizon for the night, and she is the giver of magick, for all psychic power comes from her, and when her influence on our world is strongest our magick is greatest, and any magickal event is all the more significant if it falls on the Esbat. I'm thankful for the sky decorations called stars, and for the mighty constellations whose power reaches across the void of the cosmos to influence our lives profoundly. I'm thankful for fire, the universal purifier, giver of warmth and the earthly embodiment of the substance of Llew, a gift for our survival. I'm thankful for water, the substance of life, the indespensable nourisher whom all life seeks as if unto a god, and I'm thankful for the air, invisible sustainer of living functions, without which we die immediately. I'm thankful for falling stars that bring their mighty magick to those who recover and posssess them, and to the other planets and their great spirits which are close to mankind despite the great gulf between worlds. I'm thankful for the whole universe, which in every way accomodates out existence and provides for us the tools to ever improve ourselves.

| I'm Thankful For A Family Who Understands, Even If They Don't Like... | Nov 21st. at 3:52:14 pm EST |

| Lisa (ChaosMoth) (Mountain View, California US) | Age: 16 - Email |

I'm thankful for a family who understands, even if they don't like to admit it. (My little brother was doing a school project just this morning, and one of the first thing he mentioned being thankful for was "nature." I had to smile. I'm thankful TO Nature.)
I'm thankful that there are a large number of people who do understand, and are not afraid to admit to the existence and value of other realities and states of mind, whether these are unveiled by drugs, or internal means, or ritual.
I'm thankful for the Internet in more ways than I can possibly speak of. It's literally saved my life once or twice, I'm sure -- simply because the communication allowed by that most unique means has been of great support and comfort to me in the worst of times. Times when I would have otherwise left home unprepared, or possibly become self-destructive -- though I can only speculate. I'm thankful for the Internet because I can discover very easily the one thing that often seems impossible to track down: people like me. A confirmation or a support for my beliefs, for my understanding of the world. A large number of people who demonstrate that not only am I not deluded in thinking myself an adult human being with value, but there are others 'undercover'.
I'm thankful for my boyfriend, who was one of those 'undercover' when I first met him. Though he lives on the other side of the country, we'll be together eventually. I'm thankful for his understanding and his listening, for his putting up with my quirks and difficulties.
I'm thankful for communication.
I'm thankful that I was born and raised in California, myself. Normality is optional.
I'm thankful for the beautiful little struggling independent bookstore where I work. It is the best first job I could possibly have: very Pagan-friendly, and weirdness is often /not/ optional. ;-) Those of you who are in the Bay Area, please buy your books at Printers Inc Mountain View!
I'm thankful for those spontaneous moments when a Divine Presence decides to reach out and touch me. I'm thankful for what I know in my heart, even if my intuitive side remains untrained and often uncooperative.
I'm thankful for my ex-boyfriend. He taught me things I needed to know about people, and things I needed to know about myself. I'm thankful for learning when to stop giving.
I'm thankful for roleplaying, and for all the people who roleplay with me. It's an exploration of life and story that my own life would be much poorer without, and a forum for sides of the self that can't otherwise be uncaged.
I'm thankful for my sanity.
I'm thankful that my mental health isn't perfect. If I were saner than I am, I wouldn't glimpse the opportunities and perspectives that I do; and if I were less stable, I couldn't help those crazier than myself to interpret and understand those windows.
I'm thankful for crossroads and boundaries. I'm thankful to Eris and Her chaotic influence. I'm thankful for words and their near-infinity of meanings. I'm thankful to Trickster.
I'm thankful to Witchvox, for provoking me to realize how thankful I am.

| I Am Thankful Every Day, But At The Top Of My List... | Nov 21st. at 3:26:12 pm EST |

| Tony (Tampa, Florida US) | Age: 28 - Email |

I am thankful every day, but at the top of my list this week:
I am thankful to the gods and goddesses who grant us life and learning. I am thankful to my family and schools who gave me learning and wisdom. I am thankful to my friends who help me along the paths. I am thankful to the community and to Fall Into Rhythm, which helped me find that I have a place in the community. I am thankful to the Witches' Voice, which gives our community a voice in the world around us.
This week as every week, let us all speak our thanks to those who matter to us.
This season as every season, let us reach a hand to help those whom the gods send our way.
May blessings be multiplied unto you again.

| I Am Thankful For Tolerance In The Non-pagan Communities. Though At Times... | Nov 21st. at 2:31:53 pm EST |

| Michelle (Grand Junction, Colorado US) | Age: 31 - Email |

I am thankful for tolerance in the Non-Pagan communities. Though at times it may seem very small it is there. I believe it is in part, because of this tolerance and acceptence that Pagans are thriving as they are. I am also overwhelmingly thankful to the Goddess for showing me the Wiccan path and to the God for His understanding.

| I'm Thankful For My Dear Love, Christopher. Every Day He Reminds Me... | Nov 21st. at 9:48:49 am EST |

| Bethy (Staten Island, New York US) | Age: 33 |

I'm thankful for my dear love, Christopher. Every day he reminds me in little ways how much our love grows every day, and how special I am to him, and he is to me. Sappy, I know, but true.
I'm also very thankful for my family, friends, wonderful evil kitty, my job, and my health. So often my prayers to the Goddess and God are simple "Thank you for all I have." Sometimes I'm afraid that I ask them for help and guidance to much, so I always try to say thank you, even if it's for a windful of leaves and a clear view of the full moon.
The very hard lesson of the breakup of my previous marriage turned into a very great blessing, mostly because in that previous relationship I was shutting off parts of myself in an effort to please him, and that just didn't work. It was very difficult to leap from that safe-but-unhappy relationship to the dangerous time of being alone and lonely and truly dependent on myself. It was a lesson that I needed to learn, and I'm glad that I did, but I'm also glad that it is over.
I thank the Goddess, God, and Ancestors in my head and heart whenever I think of it, especially when I'm walking outside. I also leave offerings after formal rituals. I would like to do more!

| I Am Thankful For My Family. I Married Into A Well Adjusted... | Nov 21st. at 9:44:57 am EST |

| Erica (Layton, Utah US) | Age: 21 - Email |

I am thankful for my family. I married into a well adjusted american family. I am not saying they are perfect, but the are more perfect than my family. We are visiting them for Thanksgiving, which is hard for a military family. Being that this is the first time I have actually met them I felt obliged to go to church with my mother-in-law Sunday. The preacher was talking about thanksgiving and he gave the history of it that is not so true. I was being a good little pagan and trying to mix with the crowd and my husband decided to take it upon himself to tell some of his old friends that I a wiccan and that that has taught him a few things. I was just a little perturbed about it. I only tell people that need to know or who ask about it. But I am thankful that my family doesn't hold it against me. They haven't said anything to me the whole time we've been here. Except to tell my husband that church isn't the appropriate place for that kind of discussion. I think the way people hype up the pilgrim side of the original Thanksgiving is so horrible. One of the reasons why I don't want to send my children to public schools. I am thankful for everything that has been given to me in the past and count them as blessings. I count my family as a blessing because they are just so cool about some things.

| I Am Thankful For The Blessings In Disguise, And Being Able To... | Nov 21st. at 4:32:14 am EST |

| Wayne Andrews (Siler City, North Carolina US) | Age: 48 - Email |

I am thankful for the blessings in disguise, and being able to help others.
First of all, I was raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses! How is that a blessing, you may be asking yourself ? Simple! Well, they will teach you an execellent background in Paganism. They will tell you about all the holidays, the cross, and many other things including days of the week, and too many other events that are truly pagan.
Much of this information came back to me during Samhain as I reflected back on my past life and where I am going in the future.
I am thankful for myself and others, that we are allowed to practice our religion and able to be a Witch if we choose. The folks in my town seem to be very responsive to the messages I usually give each month. The Lord and Lady are so real in my life now, that they are like a Mother and Father at my side. I really never feel alone. Always, when praying, I thank the Dieties for what they have done, and will do in the furure for me, my Brothers and Sisters World wide. Included are the families of these people, that peace and understanding may prevail. I pray that my energies, and the collective energies of others will help heal those physically and spiritually.
I thank our Mother, Sky Father, Moon(Artemis), Rulers of the Elements... Lady Brigid, Kwan Yin(Protectress and Goddess of mercy and understanding), The Horned One, Horus, and too many to mention here. It could easily take me an hour just to say my prayer in the morning upon rising, and at bedtime!
There is just too much to list it all here! Thank You, LibbyAnn for the wonderful patience, insight, experience, and hope you have given me at One Magic, Pittsboro!
PS: Also this thanks goes to te wonderful people at TWV, and other Brothers and Sisters. Just too many to name here!
Blessed Be Well Wayne Andrews, aka "Flying Eagle"

| I Am Thankful That I Am A Witch In America And Am... | Nov 20th. at 9:47:15 pm EST |

| Lucinda-June Chapman (Elmira, New York US) | Age: 48 - Email |

I am Thankful that I am a Witch in America and am Visualizing a future where we become stronger and stronger.
Where the freedom that it is here in the northeast, where we are seen as just another religion, expands all over the United States and the Wrold.
Where women, Witches, the Rainbow of Color, Same Gender love are just people, and tolerance is the keynote of the world.
Where "living wage" is a truism, not a joke.
And of course I'm thankful for my husband and children, all Witches. And for my email lists and Witchvox.
