Pagan Music - Press Releases for 2000
by Pagan Communities
A new Goddess chant by Emerald Rose is climbing the charts on www.mp3.com . "Freya, Shakti" from their new cd "Bending Tradition" has reached the top ten on the music site's Spiritual Pop charts. "Freya, Shakti" is a "driving oracular chant/song", celebrating aspects of the Goddess across time and culture and exploring the images of her mysteries. Amazon.com reviewer Carl McColman wrote "The most luminous gem on this CD is "Freya Shakti", a Goddess chant that deserves to take its place alongside Deena Metzger's "Isis Astarte" chant as a recognizable Pagan standard. To this reviewer, the boys in Emerald Rose haven't just bent tradition -- they've contributed to it!"
"Freya, Shakti" can be heard for free by going to www.mp3.com/emeraldrose . The band has released three Goddess-themed songs to the internet site this autumn. "Pagan Girl" and "Castle of Arianrhod" are also available on the site.
Emerald Rose has been touring festivals and concerts this year, ranging from Ohio to Florida. Their most recent concert was at the Music of the Rivers Festival in Jacksonville, where the group joined more than forty other Celtic bands to raise awareness of the plight of Florida's Ichetucknee River. Another victory for the group occurred this Samhain, when fans packed Atlanta's Variety Playhouse for a very high-energy concert that ended with the audience performing a spiral dance in the aisles during an encore of "Freya, Shakti".
Emerald Rose is currently taking their show to venues throughout the Southeast and beyond. The band is also overseeing the introduction of numerous pagan bands into the virtual world, helping set up websites on mp3.com and other internet portals. Emerald Rose releases 'Freya, Shakti' to mp3.com
PRESS RELEASE 10/16/2000:
Band plays high profile concerts and releases a trio of songs about the Goddess
Emerald Rose is taking myth and magick to the masses in a series of high profile concerts and mp3.com releases. The high energy Pagan Celtic band from North Georgia has been touring to support their new release 'Bending Tradition' and have recently been selected for some major concert events. Critical acclaim for their new cd has landed Emerald Rose several interesting opportunities to spread their magick. The band will perform a 'Samhain' concert to celebrate the Celtic roots of Halloween. The event is being co-sponsored by the Atlanta Celtic Festival and will take place at Atlanta's famed Variety Playhouse on October 30 at 7:30 pm as part of ACF's annual "A Celtic Autumn Evening"series. The concert is significant because it represents the first time local Atlanta artists have been chosen as headliners for the event, which usually imports international Celtic recording stars. The Samhain theme is the perfect setting for the band's repetoire of magickally inspired music. Emerald Rose will be joined by Atlanta friends 'The BorderCollies', storyteller Cayce Terrell and stepdancers from the McGrath School of Irish Dance. The ancient Celtic fire festival of Samhain is the theme for the evening, and the event is already receiving positive press in the Atlanta media. More information on the Samhain concert can be found at the band's website at http://www.emeraldrose.com.
Emerald Rose has chosen to celebrate the Samhain concert by releasing three new Goddess songs from Bending Tradition - one each week until the concert. The first, "Freya, Shakti" is a chant/song honoring the mystery of the Goddess in her many aspects. In the next two weeks the band will release the trance-like "Castle of Arianrhod", and the rollicking festival favorite "Pagan Girl". "Freya, Shakti" and other music from 'Bending Tradition' can be heard at http://www.mp3.com/emeraldrose.
The biggest news for the band is their inclusion in the upcoming 'Music of the Rivers' event, a four day, forty band concert series that will take place November 16 - 19 at the Metropark in Jacksonville Florida. This 15,000 seat venue has been set aside for four days of blockbuster Celtic music to raise money for rivers in Florida and Ireland. The event is creating a grass roots buzz, often being referred to as "The CelticWoodstock". The list of bands includes some big names, including Cowboy Junkies, Seven Nations and Green Man. The directors of the event have made it clear to participants that this is a Pagan, Druid, and New Age friendly event. The stage is designed to be an ancient sacred oak grove, where the Druids will invoke the 'bards' to play for the Celts and their friends. Emerald Rose is currently scheduled to be the first band to play in the event. 'Music of the Rivers' is very supportive of the Magickal and New Age community. They insist this concert should include "all good people everywhere, coming together in peace to save the lifeblood of our Mother Earth". Major efforts are being made to inform pagan and magickal groups around the country. The concert is raising money specifically to save the pristine Ichetucknee River in north Florida, which is currently being threatened by the construction of a cement plant. Emerald Rose is very excited to be included in the event, which will be webcast on http://www.celtictv.com . The band has stated that they feel this is some of the most important work they have done, and are looking forward to the opportunity to present their magick to the world. The event will be broadcast on the internet on Celtic TV, and organizers plan to release a compilation cd featuring many of the bands in the concert. More information on this excellent cause can be found at http://www.musicoftherivers.org
