The Rebirth of Paganism

by Wren

Interesting reading just ahead!

A glance at the desk calendar here at TWV gives us a vocabulary 'word of the day'. Today we are looking at "roman-fleuve". The definition reads: 'A long novel, often in many volumes, chronicling the history of several generations of a family, community, or other group and often representing an overall view of society during a particular epoch." I would venture to say that the pagan communities are already working on volume two of the series.

Volume two of the roman-fleuve, 'The Rebirth of Paganism" will be co-written by our children. Many of them are even today beginning to flex their literary and spiritual muscles. They are thinkers, they are doers and they are visionaries. Our future elders are taking our past and our present and are getting ready for our future. Volume two should make for some interesting reading.

The future is not ours to write. It is theirs. But we can help our future pagans make a smooth and strong transition. We can support their fledging efforts by offering support and guidance. We can make sure that the writings and the lessons are passed along. We can tell them our stories, introduce them to our myths and provide that which any parent-pagan or otherwise-gives freely to their children: our love for who they are and our trust in who they shall become.

Pagan families are now growing into their second and even third generations. Some of what we call 'fam trads' are even further along the generational line than that. This fact alone demonstrates that paganism is not some 'latest fad' or spiritual hobby. Paganism is made of a very real and extremely viable community of believers who are sharing-no, living!- those beliefs every day and incorporating them into their own families' traditions. Without a doubt, many family photo albums will soon be filled with images of "Grampa" in his ritual robes and 'Grammy' speaking with congressional leaders in front of the Capitol Building.

Strong images. Inspirational images. Images of our past that will blend into images of our future. Volume two will be written. Look into a pagan child's eyes. It's in there.
