October-The Veils Grow Thin, The Portals Open

by Wren

Greetings everyone!
Samhain for Fritz and I has always been a mixture of merriment and deep reflection; a strange brew of parties and gatherings mixed with sadness, reverence and a deep longing to be alone with our thoughts. For many others who celebrate the season, we would guess that Samhaintide is probably the same bittersweet experience for them. We seem to dream more clearly, feel more connected with those who follow the various Pagan paths and understand some of the deeper things in Life's mystery just a little bit better. The veils are open and we may experience in this brief time a merging of past and present or a glimpse into the future.
As I follow a path of Ancestral Witchcraft, we always take some private time to honor friends and family members who have passed on by thinking of the best times, the happiest times and the times when that person left us with something that not only changed our lives, but changed our hearts and spirits as well.
It is never too late to say, "Thank you!" It is never too late to say, "I Love You." They will hear you.
>Our friends in the Southern Hemisphere are preparing to celebrate Beltaine. One of the best Australian Pagan resources is Stella Australis. Since many of the larger Pagan web sites happen to be in the Northern Hemisphere, our down under Pagan brothers and sisters often feel that they are in some sort of time warp when it comes to what is being discussed and celebrated on the internet. There ARE numerous wonderful sites dedicated to the Southern Pagans' Wheel of the Year and the Southern Hemisphere Web Ring lists many of them. Happy Beltaine!
So as we get together with our friends and family this coming week, we will circle and party and do our rituals to honor the Old Ones and enjoy the 'fruits of the season." And then we will also pause to remember and welcome in the spirits of all those whom we have loved and those who have loved us. Together again, we will remember.
