PhoenixPhyre Gathering 2000 (4)

(Day 4)
WitchVox Daily Coverage: Wed - Thu - Fri - Sat

Saturday dawned early, too! Try 6:30, so we could be out the door by 8 AM. It was a blur of workshops: first the Cyberspace Paganism one, where Fritz and Wren talked about the impact of the Internet on the Pagan Community, and detailed the history of The Witches' Voice. There was also a meeting later of O.P.A.L., The Original Pagan Artists' League, which is attempting to form a cooperative to assist pagan artists with marketing their work and joining forces to help each other, both in the world of retail and on the festival circuit.

Wren: We had a chance to sit in on the panel discussion, 'Neo-Paganism In The New Millennium' with Roger Coleman of Church of Iron Oak, Isaac, Gavin and Yvonne Frost, Bill Kilbourn of A.R.E.N. (host) and many others. We discussed the inroads and progress that paganism had forged over the last three decades and ruminated on what the future might hold...

A lively discussion developed when some young pagan generation folks joined in and challenged us to not settle for the status quo, but to keep on pushing for complete equality. Anyone who thinks that the upcoming generation of pagan elders doesn't have the same fire that we had at their age had better rethink that position. Even some of our own graying eyebrows got a bit singed from the passion demonstrated from the young ones. I think that this a nice balance between the generations-the elder one to bring in the knowledge of working within systems to obtain results and the younger to remind us to not be satisfied with systems that simply do not work for us. The next decade should be very, very interesting indeed!

Peg: What can I say? More music (an impromptu bardic circle around a neighbor's campfire), more drumming, more laughter, more love, more fellowship...I hated to leave that night, knowing it would be some months before I returned...but rather than say my good-byes to too many people, I sought out the few folk we passed on our way, thanking them and offering good wishes...and knowing some of my dear friends would be there over the next several days, on a happy, healing journey to the Florida Keys...

And so, until next we join together, at Autumn Meet...

Wren: We want to thank everyone involved with PhoenixPhyre-the hosts (especially Unkie Wade and Auntie Dianne) and presenters, the musicians and artists, the shop keeps and safety team and, of course, all of our many friends, old and new, who wove diverse energies from across the lands into one community united in peace, fellowship and love.

Four Winds to you all.
