Ancestors

by Christina Aubin

The crisp nip to the October air is a notable indication that Samhain is upon us. It seems that suddenly, all at once, the whole world knows its Samhain. The air changes, leaves cascade downward after reaching a symphonic pinnacle of color last week, and abruptly the progression of seasons decelerates. Summer's end is here and the journey into Winter has begun.
Thoughts become more and more reflective; conversation more introspective, we find great comfort and companionship in the love that knits our family so closely together. My children as if on key begin asking questions of family history and family stories. This is time of year when we visit great and great-great aunts and grandmothers, great uncles and second cousins, a time when we feel the strong tug of the roots of our family tree, as to remind us we are not alone in the winter's journey. The ancestral tree upon which our lives spring from ensures that we too are an important part of the future, the present and the past, for it is the progression of life and its mysteries our ancestors quested forward in their own lives.
This Samhain we have taken to task the documenting of the ancestral tree upon which we take our strength and heritage. This has become an enjoyable, deeply connecting exercise, with the documenting of pure fact you can begin to feel how deeply ancestral bonds go, the intense tug of roots that run so deep. With the documenting of remembered stories, you feel your heart swell with deep unwavering love of those you may not have known personally, but now know so intimately in heart and story.
Lineage offers a great source of power and magic, it allows us to truly understand where we are coming from - to better light where we are headed to. Personalize the season of ancestors; by knowing your own family tree, what honor we do those who walked before us by remembering their lives, their stories, their victories and trials, their connection to us.
Blessed Samhain To You and Yours!
