Last night, my child woke me from a deep dream: I was standing on a bridge over a wide river, looking down into black reflective water under a night sky. I was singing from my heart. I sang a song of purity, a song of love to the Divinity we know as Water. I was doing in my dreams just that which I seek to do while awake: purifying the Waters of the Earth by spiritual means. This work has been revealed to my teacher, Sandra Ingerman.
Sandra Ingerman has, until now, been identified with shamanism, and especially, soul retrieval healing. She has published two books on soul retrieval, a traditional form of shamanic healing lost to the West until Sandra began her work. Sandra has been on the faculty of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies for many years. Last year, Sandra's new book came out, Medicine for the Earth (Three Rivers Press, a division of Random House). In this work, Sandra describes how to attain a state of consciousness which causes the transmutation of toxic substances in water.
In repeated experiments, Sandra and her students have been able to change the pH of water, deliberately polluted with toxic acids and bases, as much as 2 points on the pH scale. That is a hundred-fold change, from toxic and fatal if consumed to just smelly, with a foul taste. It is, as far as we know, the only repeatable experiment in which spiritual healing methods have undeniably caused physical effects.
We work with controls of the same toxic substance, from a common source. One bowl of polluted water is placed upon the altar, and becomes the focus of our spiritual healing ceremony. The control substance is placed in a closet or another room. In all experiments, the control has never changed pH; only the bowl that has been the focus of the healing ceremony has ever been affected
This technique works whether practiced with the toxic substances on site or in remote locations. The most profound changes are seen when the practitioners are in the same room as the toxic substance. Groups working from remote locations have caused changes up to 1 point on the pH scale.
Sandra and her students are working with a small number of scientists to test the technique further. Working with the toxic substances is daunting, and requires extreme precision. We hope to be ready to demonstrate the transmutation publicly some time in the Spring of 2003.
Students from a variety of different spiritual traditions, with a variety of different beliefs, have been able to learn the transmutation in as few as two days. Sandra has written the book as a series of guided visualizations, which can also be shamanic journeys if the student prefers.
I studied the transmutation technique for five days with Sandra at the Omega Institute, in Rhinebeck, NY, in October 2001. My fellow students and I had worked as a shamanic circle for three eventful years before we studied the transmutation technique with Sandra. We were able to change the pH of the water 2 points, with fifty people working. It was thrilling, and deeply moving.
I taught the transmutation to six highly magical people earlier this month at Moonridge, a beautiful spiritual retreat center in Beltsville, Maryland. We had a professional lab technician with us, and she estimated the difference between our control and our subject water was 1/2 a pH point, which is not insignificant. Next time, we hope to use a pH meter instead of pH strips to refine our information about the physical results of the transmutation.
It would be a mistake to focus too much on the experiment's amazing physical effects, however. The true gift of this transmutation teaching is the miraculous healing experienced by the practitioner.
I am a Pagan Witch and shaman. Finding my own, individual Creator Being has been a transcendent experience for me. In my visions, I am able to transfigure into a Being of Light. This is a state beyond all illusionary dualities, a state of purity and ecstasy. My heart feels as if it will burst with the strain of trying to express all of the Divine Love and Grace I feel from, and with, this Being. This is the Being Who Sang the Multiverse Into Being, at least to me. This journey to meet, and then embody, your own personal Creator Being is extremely profound for all practitioners.
We are already taking this technique to places like Toms River, NJ, a Superfund site, and Ground Zero in New York City, places where toxic substances threaten people and the other creatures of the world. That is where detoxification is most needed. The experiment with the water on the altar is just to train people.
I hope that the Pagan community will embrace this teaching, starting by reading Sandra's book, Medicine for the Earth. I will be offering an introduction to Medicine for the Earth at the Free Spirit Gathering, June 12-16, 2002 in Darlington, MD. See www.free-spirit.org/festivals_2002/FSG2002 for more information. Other teachers are offering instruction in many different states.
Part of the transmutation work is accomplished in co-creation with Elementals, Nature Spirits, Faeries (or whatever terms you prefer for the spiritual Beings of Nature.) By being in relationship with the Nature Spirits, Sandra teaches that we strengthen the land against damage from toxins. Many Witches and Pagans are already in deep relationships with Nature Spirits. This takes that work one step farther, in my experience.
Even in the midst of the terrible wars, attacks and violence around the world, in the midst of environmental degradation unknown in all of geologic time, in the midst of a culture of cynicism, scarcity, greed and monopoly, this news about transmutation must inject a note of hope.
