Great Zeus!
WitchVox Cracks 5 Million Pages Viewed!
Give Yourselves a round of applause!

This past week was an extremely busy one at WitchVox, in fact is was the 2nd heaviest hit week (119,584) and month (422,363) that WitchVox has ever experienced. The numeric milestone of 5 million pages viewed was also passed. Bless YOU all for making this happen!

Last week we posted Part VII of Wren's "Teachers of the Craft" series entitled Neo-Pagans and Self Actualization as a way of "testing the waters". The feedback was most encouraging, so look for more work like this in the future. WitchVox is in a constant state of change and continued polishing and one could certainly say the same for our community.

This week we offer a substantial rewrite of one of our most popular (and most stolen) pages "F.A.Q's about Witches, Wiccans and Pagans". We are deeply indebted to Paula Murphy, Ainsley Friedberg, J.Kyle Sweeney & Lisa Tonner for authoring the original version that served thousands well for the past two years.

Lincoln High Update 3/3/99: "Witches are welcome at Lincoln Park High School -- but not necessarily those wearing pentacles. Lincoln Park School Supt. Randall Kite said Tuesday that he would remove the terms "witches and pagans" from a school list of prohibited groups after an eight-hour federal court hearing." Surf to Wren's Nest for more on this story.

The P.W.A. has a New Home: Thanks to the generosity of our good friend Lhiannon from TPAO, the Pagan WebCrafters' Association has just moved from its temporary location here at TWV to its new home at DRAK.NET. The PWC has always maintained high levels of Values and Ethics and the Witches' Voice is proud to be both a member and supporter of this wonderful organization. For more details see our PWA feature further down this page.

Witch, Wiccan or Pagan? That do these words mean? How are they different? Can you be just one? two? or all three? These questions are the basis of constant debate and discussion throughout the Pagan community. Most of you do have some very strong opinions on this subject. Check out our essay series on "What is a Witch, Wiccan or a Pagan" for a sampling of the thoughts of a dozen folks in this community. Web Note: Three more articles were added last week! or so I stated... The reality was bonehead boy had them ready but didn't put them up on Witches' Voice - Kindly accept my apology for this faux pax.

We hope see YOU in Central Florida: This year Wren and I will be attending several festivals and we kick off our festival season with the famous Phoenix Phyre Gathering located just north of Tampa, Florida (March 25th - 28th, 1999). Wren and I will be doing some casual workshops and yours truly may be singing a couple of tunes at Bardic Circle. We are thrilled to able to hang out with our Floridian brothers and sisters. The featured list of presenters and performers includes:

Patricia Telesco, Don and Daniella Waterhawk, Elspeth of Haven
Maya Heath, Main Ritual with Full Moon Circle (TUUC)
Phyllis Curlott and Bruce Fields
Alexian and Seridina from Earth Tones Studios

Timely Note: Yesterday, Wren and I attended the Sarasota Renaissance Festival (it was wonderful to meet you Holly!) and the buzz was hot on this fest. It appears that Phoenix Phyre '99 will sell out quickly so get your registration in fast. Visit the Phoenix Phyre web site for more info.

Pagan Music? Really?

Andy Partridge Comes out of the Broom Closet!
XTC releases "Apple Venus Vol.I"

Last tuesday was a special day 'round these parts. It marked the release of XTC's first new music in 7 years... "Apple Venus Vol.I". Sonically breath-taking this disc shows, once again, the incredible writing of Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding. Pre-release reviews talked of Sgt. Pepper/McCartney-esc melody lines produced with lavish orchestration. This IS true, but the good news is that IT WORKS. Much to OUR surprise track #6 has "Next Pagan Anthem" written all over it. Simply stated, the incredible "Greenman" blew us away, melodically, lyrically and spiritually. Apple Venus is laced with tongue in cheek lyrical humor, powerful melodies and interesting grooves.

XTC has been around for 20 years and has had several minor hits. The most dramatic and controversial being 1990's "Dear God". Andy's cynical side has often called the dark/greedy site of mainstream religion on the carpet. He clearly penned "Greenman" as a celebration. Are they a Pagan band? No, I am pretty sure they don't claim to be,. but "Greenman" confirms what so many of us have suspected. Blessed be Andy and Colin... You have once again delivered the goods. The Witches' Voice salutes you for one of your finest efforts.

The Witches' Voice would like to thank the Chalkhills website for keeping us up to date on this release and for the fabulous site that they do for us XTC fans.

For the record: The Witches' Voice DID NOT "Put a Curse" on Celine Dion. Although, it IS true that Wren and I aren't fans of Celine's "music", we don't/won't work black or controlling magic... This rumor was untrue and was unfounded. It's worth noting that on this weeks People Magazine cover it states that Celine made 50 million last year. It is clear that Celine's "magic" is working quite well.

Bless you all... Once again, for your patience with us over the past week. Always know that even when this page isn't changing, the rest of this site is and on a daily basis. The Witches' of the World pages and the Pagan links pages are updated, faithfully, every 24-48 hours, Wren's Nest is updated daily and new pages all over this site can and do pop up on a regular basis.

Thank You

ALWAYS In Your Service,
Founders - The Witches' Voice

Wren's Nest... Where the Action is !

Wren spends a great deal of time researching current news events that may be of interest or concern to Witches, Wiccans and Pagans. This page is a quick and convenient way for the Witches' Voice to keep you updated on the latest news, commentaries and issues that effect our community. If it relates to the modern Wiccan community, chances are... You'll find it at Wren's Nest on the Web. If you are aware of a craft-related news clip, feel free to email Wren.

Updated Every day.. Updates on Wren's Nest happen every day and in most cases several times a day, so remember to hit your reload button when you get there.

Pagan Values and Ethics...
A New Section Coming to the Voice!

Values and Ethics (working title)... Two words that members of our community either embrace or conveniently ignore. Next week we plan to launch a Values and Ethics section that will include our personal thoughts, guest Rants, mini-voting, and community feedback. One of our many goals with this new section will be to increase awareness related to the more "sinister aspects" of the Pagan community and to offer ways to "spot the takers". It has been our experience that it is much more effective to work with the issues rather than the offenders themselves. That is where our focus will lie.

Sadly, stealing on the Pagan net seems to be on the rise... As we write this, two powerful and creative (Omphalos and SalemTarot) WebSites have emailed us with concerns (read: anger) about their coding, words and/or graphics being looted strait away by "Pagans" that decided to take the low road. Make no doubt about it, where there is money, attention or fame to be had, there will always be Takers. They want your attention and/or your money! Only you can decide just what they are worthy of.

Until next week feel free to check out our past thoughts on this subject: Givers, Takers and the Pagan Web; Pagan Web Theft and Mistakes we've made

Last Week Highlights: we presented our detailed annual wrap up. The two words we find our using consistently in email and throughout this site are simply ones - Thank YOU. Although we aren't really "past tense" folks, every year we make a concentrated effort to review the previous year. Much can be learned from the past; this we know for sure. Click HERE our annual statement related to the past, present and future of the Witches' Voice.

Two Weeks Ago:: was a VERY busy week at WitchVox. We introduced a new version of Wren's Nest, were shocked by Pat Robertson's Open-minded comments, featured some powerful essays on the subject of "Which, Witch is Which" and introduced the wonderful short story "The Little Witch", celebrated the fact that the ACLU took the case and slapped a suit on Linclon Park High, breathed new life into our Pagan Parenting Section, detailed numerous site updates and once again continued to polish and evolve this web site.

Witches of the World Pages...
Make a difference where it counts.... In YOUR town!

With a current listing of over 9,880 Witches, Wiccans and Pagans, keeping this list de-duped, sorted and clean is quite the chore. Recent systems have automated much of this... AND close to 1,000 of you ARE aware of the little surprise that we have been offering daily since January 1st. This is just one of our many ways to verify the integrity of email addresses.

WOTW also includes (as of this writing) 433 Covens and Groups, 334 Festivals and Events, 2,033 annotated links to Pagan Web sites and 510 Pagan shops of the World.

The entire 377 page WOTW and Links sections are driven by a custom written Database System that has evolved over the past couple of years. Our WOTW pages are updated every 48 hours and are constantly being fine-tuned for accuracy... Check to see what's happening in YOUR state, province, or country today!

The Pagan WebCrafters' Association STILL Rules!
"Serving the Magickal, Occult, and Pagan Earth Community. "

PWA is a HOT, loose coalition of WebCrafters from the Pagan/Occult Web... Born in the summer of 97, PWA offers a two powerful mailing lists for all those interested in Pagan WebCrafting and Pagan thought. The Witches' Voice is both proud and thrilled to be a part of this wonderful venture.

The PWC (Pagan Web Crafters) list is devoted to Web Based Design and Technique. It is also a community of individuals sharing and caring, helping each other to understand this new medium. The pwa-l mailing list is provided as a service of Brewers Witch Internet Services,

The PMC (Pagan Mind Crafters) list is about what pagans think and do. It is devoted to pagan thought and community, to discuss ethical, religious, philosophical and cultural aspects of our beliefs and practices. It seeks to encourage a pagan community based on egalitarian values and principles, without gender bias.

To Subscribe to either of these lists visit the PWC HOME PAGE
