Successful Fire Scrying

As a fire symbol, I always figured that fire scrying would come naturally. I had never had problems with “the sight” as many a vision had come to me, but controlling those visions or summoning them became a real challenge. While trying to expand my horizons and focus my energies on specific visions, I realized that not only was my focus off, but so were my surroundings. It took me nearly a decade to find the proper setting to nurture my talents; the issues that were holding me back were not due to my inexperience and had nothing to do with my own personal power. I was simply trying to perform an ancient rite inside, in a closed off manmade brick fireplace.

Why this issue didn’t present itself sooner is a mystery to me. I was apparently too busy second-guessing myself to get back to the basics. And in this technological, fast paced world, how is one to successfully do any form of scrying when there is so much static all around us? It was not until this past summer that I happened to accidentally find my solution. My husband and I were dying for a night to ourselves, so we planned a short weekend trip to a remote Missouri spring for some scuba, camping, and well-needed rest. Sure we would have loved to travel farther; to an exotic resort in Jamaica or Hawaii but sometimes simplicity is best. My sister was happy to watch our daughter for her first night away from us and we were assured that everything would be fine, so we were on our way.

Just finding this quaint little area was exciting enough for my husband and me, the five-hour road trip had created quite a bit of anticipation. As we pulled into the lot, we were facing a much smaller shop than expected and the grounds weren’t that appealing from the entrance. But as my husband and I rented our gear and headed out to the quarry, our eyes caught sight of the most beautiful crystal clear water that could’ve possibly existed in the state of Missouri. What’s more, we found the perfect site to set up camp on a cliff overlooking the calm oceanic water. The 100 plus temperature didn’t even faze me as I marveled at the scene from above. The wind brought the smell of the great outdoors and I knew that we had picked the perfect place for a short vacation.

The water was great for scuba diving, and it had been such a while since my husband and I had gone diving that we were just happy to descend underwater. The freezing thermo cline thirty or so feet underwater wasn’t too kind to my husband’s new fillings in his teeth so we cut it short and decided to enjoy the rest of the day before starting a fire to cook dinner. Time passed but we were unaware as we watched birds soaring and fish swimming to the surface of the water only to dart back down when the breeze created ripples on the shiny surface. The calming effect of taking time away from clocks, phones, computers, cars, and everyone put my husband and I in such a state or relaxation that we were able to set up a fire and get it going with no problems.

Building a fire is like creating a life, you nurture it and then the hot flames reward you for all of your efforts. It had been so long since I had been camping that I almost felt what it felt like to find wood and set up a fire. It’s nothing like starting a fire in a fireplace indoors, although I love the smell of wood crackling in a hearth. The flames called to me and I was happy to admire the auburn hue as my husband and I roasted hot dogs on sticks. As the sun started to set we looked out across the water, and enjoyed the beauty before us.

Playing cards by the warm fire I teased my husband when I won and he playfully set out to regain his title as the winner. The night started slipping away from us and I started to worry about our daughter but my husband assured me that she was fine. Heading off for a bathroom break, my husband left me quietly by the fire to enjoy some peace and serenity. As I gazed into the fire the flames called to me, into me. I felt my body warming and decided to give my attention to the question of our daughter’s well being, there was no time to second-guess my abilities or even worry about focus. Within a minute I was able to see the hazy view of my daughter’s sweet face resting peacefully on her pillow, tucked away softly in her bed.

When my husband returned I told him what I had seen and he nonchalantly told me that he knew we had nothing to worry about. He never makes a big deal out of my powers; this is a man who knows what I can do before I even try. Regardless I was astounded at the ease and precision of my vision. It was all in the flames; a smoky, wavering image, that seemed to be there waiting for someone to pull it out with a little effort. Comparing my failed attempts at fire scrying it all seemed so obvious, of course the elements need some freedom in order to be used for a purpose and we humans need our freedoms too. The elements cannot be controlled but shared just like people.

These realizations, along with the satisfaction of having harnessed such energies, I was at peace. The night went just as quickly as the day and before we knew it, my husband and I were on our way home. Upon our arrival everything was as my sister had said. Our daughter had been a perfect little niece and, upon asking my sister about how bedtime went, she painted the same picture that I had seen in the flames. Lucky for us we have a large backyard, plenty of wood, and the popularity of fire pits has given me the tools I need to continue nurturing my fire scrying skills.
