| Who Is God?

I celebrated the Spring Equinox this year and as always with a ritual, I left learning something new. I have been thinking a great deal about what God is. It is such a vast, deep subject that it is hard to articulate. I have evaluated over time, Monotheism, Atheism, Duatheism (or Duotheism) and Polytheism. I am currently stuck on a Poly-Monotheistic state.
First I will explain what I think of these. I rule out Atheism to some degree. As humans we CANNOT be the highest being out there - it’s just incomprehensible to me. Even though I have not personally experienced a sentient being 'out there' reaching out and pinching me, I cannot rule out entirely the possible existence such a being.
With Duatheism, I don’t see why it has to be male and female. I absolutely agree with equality and duality - but God as I see it has not genitals, to be blunt, and so it really is neither. Not everything in nature actually has a set gender after all.
Now with the two I am stuck between. Here I will attempt to explain how I see God: The monotheistic part comes to play immediately. I believe there is one divine source. Life. It is this ongoing energy that links the web of everything in existence. It encompasses everything. It is one because if it is split it leaves gaps (if that makes any sense) . But here is how it becomes many: The ‘Divine’, that which I believe is the, spirit, energy, link of life, needs to be able to create life to BE life!
Metaphorically it gave birth, it multiplied itself - now don’t ask me how - but it’s multiples are still a part of itself. It is DNA. The Divine’s DNA spread like offspring into things in existence. ‘Life’ had to make life for there to even be life. Are you getting me? To put it in human context, mother gave birth to many children; the children sectioned off as they grew. Divine created rocks, planets, suns, of which developed and reproduced with one another, creating chemicals, gases, liquids, life forms.
In the hierarchy of things: Divine gives birth to Universe (out of many) , gives birth to planets, gives birth to things upon their planets, gives birth to further things…
There is a deity overall (Life) , a principle if you will. Then a father of a Universe (“son” of Life) , then daughter planets deities, deities such as Gaia who thus give birth to deities of earthly nature (e.g. trees, rivers) and then children of Gaia, Animals.
Now onto what being a deity means.
Due to human psychology we try our hardest to make something we want to believe come true. It would be so amazing and so close and comforting if we had things out there (i.e. Gods) that smiled down on us, spoke to us and protected us. Maybe they do? I certainly want them to; I would so love them to. However, just because we want something doesn't mean it exists. Don’t get me wrong; if you know differently, then you are lucky to have the experience.
The Egyptians saw their Gods (those who were more educated in the nature of their deities) more as principles of nature than sentient beings. Their myths reflected things that happen in nature and they acknowledged that personified beings did not literally go about with human acts and emotions.
Thoth (Tehuti) was not literally a stork/Ibis man who was eternally wise - he was the principle of intelligence. Osiris (Oser) was not really murdered by his jealous brother. He was a symbol for the crops that die and are reborn. His brother was the principle agent that allowed death to occur.
The myths were personified metaphors of what really happens - in nature. (Some MAY describe human behavior, granted, but still that is nature.)
I have found it so difficult to connect with God/Goddess and speak to them. Now I kind of, unwillingly think I know why. When I go outside, I do KNOW the Goddess Nuit. I actually do feel her and know her- When I sit by a picture of her, calling her name and trying to hear messages I get nothing - whether that is my psychic problem or concentration I don't know, but it seems that the only way I can know her, because she is not HUMAN, is by going out and touching her! Is this not the point of Paganism!
The divine is in nature! Where better place to look? For me, if 'She' cannot speak to me in English and talk through my problems, then fine. But if she can be a part of existence, existing and watching silently then that is how I can find her.
Some deities can only be reached if you directly contact them through nature. Imagine trying to contact someone just by sitting there and waiting - they won’t even be aware! You need to go up to them and see them (ignoring technology of course, seeing as these are nature deities) . Of course if the deity is within you then you shouldn’t have a problem.
I am just of the belief that maybe they don’t even understand us! Maybe they don’t talk, become angry, empathise, or experience human emotions. I believe they would still love us, as we are their offspring.
The Gods don't have to be all knowing, all-powerful, human-like beings. They can be inside nature, still caring about you because you are nature too. And in many ways, they could be within you. But I am of the personal belief that they can often only be with you when you are with them - in nature, as they aren’t humans and you wouldn’t expect a butterfly or lion to understand what you were saying would you? Why does God need to be anything like Humans?
This is my personal view, and may change over time but I am making progress with my thoughts and even with this new theory, I still don’t feel detached from God or any less faithful. I am working on the grounds of ‘nature’ and not ‘nurture’ as much as I can.
