Elements of Magic

Magic is a multifaceted subject. It can take practice and time to feel confident about using it. Many books and traditions suggest lots of preparation and timing, which can be ideal for overcoming big obstacles or performing ceremonial magic. However, you can't always bring your ritual tools everywhere and casting a circle isn't always practical. I know I use magic everyday. It enhances and supplements my life and has for many years.... it doesn't have to be complicated.

Tradition plays an important role in my magical workings but how you incorporate tradition into the now, in modern times, is what can make your magic real. I think a lot of good can come from preparation and timing but to simplify magic it's all about feelings and intentions. Any magical tools we bring into assist and amplify our will or power will not only help to put our desires into action but add to attaining and achieving goals.

Basic magic, also called Sympathetic Magic. It's all about action and physically symbolizing what we are trying to achieve. Give your magical tools a job and purpose. Today magical practices are often refereed to as prayer, manifestations, creative visualization, etc., but it has always been known as magic to me.

Magic holds no guarantees but it's weirder when things don't work.

Asking myself these questions...What is magic? How do we transform and move energy? Is magic a series of coincidences? Today there is a lot of science behind magic but I feel and see magic all around us in profound ways. It is unexplainable coincidences, a hope realized, a dream come true, it is a prayer answered, it is an act of creation and it is love.

Magic is the emotion of our hearts' energy directed to bring about our will.

Magic must be felt. We can want and want things to manifest and change to our way for long periods of time, years and even life times. Magic trusts us to know the difference between greed and what we often need or desire. It is part of each of us and we each have our own way of creating and making magic work for us. In fact the more personal you make it the more effective it will be.

Sometimes we make magic happen with little or no effort. It can come more naturally to some but it is a skill that can always be cultivated. How we use magic can and will often change as our world, environment and each other change as well. There are great adepts who change and adapt their magical skills to an ever-changing world. However, it could be said that magic is so vast and fickle it will never be completely tamed.

It is a frequency of energy we tune into to work with the ebb and flow of universal energies to attract and maintain success, inner peace and self-control. Raise your vibration. Change your mood. Trust you are being heard and taken care of with every magical action. Acknowledge you are magic.

Here I have included what tools I've incorporated into my everyday magical life to help overcome obstacles, like everyday fears, anxiety, anger, self-doubt and even depression. I work with the elements. When you tune into nature you can work with it to achieve your goals. I keep in mind everyday Earth, Fire, Air, Water, and Spirit.

Water is the most versatile everyday magical tool. I use anointing oils, sprays, holy waters, baths and bodies of water. Anointing and blessing waters, cleansing purifying aromatherapy. Liquid smudges for protection, love, money, and increased psychic abilities. These solutions all amplify magical workings and can be used to conduct or direct energy.

Earth is my most calming tool. Crystals or salt for carrying and placing. Carrying tumbled stones or charms in pockets, bags, purses, or in your bra.... if you wear one of those. Cars, home, businesses, altars or sacred spaces. These tools all love being admired as representing the Earth element. We are drawn to what we need but you can address specific issues using crystal magic, once you start to become familiar with crystals. Have your own relationship with them. Many books talk about the wonders of working with crystals. You alone can unlock each magical tool and activate its full potential.

Fire brings a light into a dark place or time. Candles, lighters, and matches are my Fire element. Keep these in your car or pocket. You never know when you’ll need a light. Burn through the things no longer serving you with candle magic, effigies, or using fireplaces and wood stoves. Often when I light a candle with intention I keep in mind: Light the flame, bright the fire, bring to me my heart’s desire.

Air brings winds of change. Incense and breath are my Air element. Try using feathers while smudging with herbs, resins or powders. Incense sticks and cones can be just as special and effective. Speech and words; use your voice! Prayer, casting a spell, reciting a poem or rhyme. Bring your emotion and hearts energy into this action and you will be surprised by the power and freedom of declaring your magical voice.

Spirit is my higher power; a God or Goddess, superior beings and it is also me/us (our soul-level self) . We empower intentions and faith. Hold what's true to you in your heart. Believe in your power. Direct your intentions. Manifest your desires. The more consistent you are with your traditions and personal beliefs the more effective your magic will be. Empower clothing, make-up or jewelry for everyday wear. Bless your possessions, surroundings and environment.

High Magic, also known as Transcendental Magic; it consists of not working with tools but, with manifestations of the mind. This is achieved through concentration, meditation, and visualization. Creation and magic with the power of thought. This is where your personal power is a fine-tuned channel or frequency of light and magic. Without ritual or tools or even much planning, one uses his or her will to move and direct energy.

In alignment with the polarity of the universe, you are conscious of your power and the strength of your will. This is advanced magic becoming more easily accessed through the conscious evolution of the human race. Material things holding less meaning and in turn less power. Being careful what you wish for and thinking about what you want, oppose to what you don’t want, is crucial to using High Magic effectively.

High Magic can also be considered Ceremonial Magic. Having more than one person focusing together to achieve a common goal. The power of the energy is amplified by numbers of people. All together the prayers, spells, or visualizations are amplifying the sympathetic-magical-rituals and the High Magic processes. Good examples of this would be group or global meditations set up to achieve a common goal. Ancient examples would be covens of Witches.

Make an offering of gratitude. Give thanks, be grateful and have appreciation for your magical workings taking effect. Take into consideration the ethics of magic. Don't use magic to manipulate the free will of others. However you choose to work with magic; work with it in perfect love and in perfect trust. Let it harm none, but does my/our will. For the good of all, be empowered by everything and you will have successful magical experiences every time.
