On January 1, 2007, after a long illness, Gabriel of Bloodrose crossed over into the Many Colored Land.
An early initiate of Victor and Cora Anderson, Gabriel had practiced the Feri Tradition since the early 1970's. In 1982, in San Francisco, he founded a school of Feri Tradition Witchcraft. He named the school "Bloodrose", a reference to a poem by Feri Tradition Grandmaster Victor Anderson. He taught students in the San Francisco Bay Area, eventually also traveling overseas to present seminars. He taught some students over the Internet as well.
A scholar of great depth and range, he brought to his Craft and to his teaching a profound knowledge of history, culture, anthropology, comparative religion, and sacred lore. An avid harper, he was also active in the Celtic music community, often playing at festivals, in small restaurants, and anywhere musicians and music-lovers gathered.
An early Gay Rights activist, he wrote some of the ground-breaking letters and articles about the place of gay people in the Craft. These articles were published in the early Pagan press.
Gabriel was a colorful and sometimes controversial figure in the Bay Area Craft community, whose contributions to the Feri Tradition and to the Craft at large have enriched the Path for all who follow.
Gabriel of Bloodrose, Hail and Farewell!
